Paris catacombs - squeeze + a bypass
A good example of a "bypass" made by *cataphiles*. Sometimes galleries are being blocked by the *Inspection Générale des Carrières* (geological inspection dept). This can be seen with the cinder block wall on the model (annotation nb. 3). Cataphiles sometimes manage to dig around the wall and re-open the way. Paris catacombs - Our Lady of the Catacombs
This room seem fairly new (at least we didn't notice it before). People have assembled a little chapel here with benches, an altar and a wooden cross. On the ceiling, there's a Knights Templar cross and a sign saying *Notre Dame des Catacombes* ("Our Lady of the Catacombs"). Scanned with the iPhone12 Pro and Scaniverse. Paris catacombs - Le Bar des Rats
A nice area called *Le Bar des Rats* (the rats bar - see the tag at one side of the scan). You don't see many rats in the catacombs of Paris, there isn't much to eat for them. The room has some interesting murals. Paris catacombs - Large gallery
The galleries and tunnels in the catacombs of Paris vary a lot in size and width. The oldest ones (north of the network) can be small and tight. One can only walk bending forward. This room was originally a *cloche de fontis* (bell-shaped cave formed by a tunnel collapse). Above the entrance of the "Bureau du Centre" (a little room, also scanned [here](https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/paris-catacombs-bureau-du-centre-e78831639a3a4000b2130457badfc34b). Two bones and a fragment of skull. Note: it's stricly illegal to disturb bones and it's a punishable offence to steal any bones in the catacombs. Paris catacombs - Le Bocal
A nice room with some stone benches, north of the Grand Reseau Nord. There were two *cataphiles* resting in this room when we passed. In such a case, the tradition is to kindly ask the permission to stay. This room was restaured back in 2007 or so. Sadly the graffitis came back.
