Mobile Service Robots Crash Testing with Pedestrians: Safety Assessment with Child and Adult Dummies

<p>Data published with the manuscript:&nbsp;&ldquo;<em>Estimating risks posed by personal mobility devices and service robots to pedestrians: comparative crash testing of adult versus child dummies</em>&rdquo;. 2021&nbsp;(Paez-Granados &amp; Billard, 2021)<br> <strong>Summary:</strong></p> <p>This dataset contains injury measures during collisions between a mobile service robot - Qolo - (Paez-Granados, et al, 2018)&nbsp;and pedestrian dummies: male adult Hybrid-III (H3) and child model 3-years-old (Q3). We present multiple collision scenarios for the assessment of pedestrian safety, considering possible impacts at the legs for adult pedestrians, and legs, chest and head for children.&nbsp;In these tests, we followed known methods of safety analysis used in car crash testing and used a standing wheelchair robot &quot;Qolo&quot; as a representative system of mobile service robots, such as delivery bots (robot without occupant), person carrier robots, autonomous wheelchairs, standing mobility vehicles, and other transport robots expected to operate in pedestrian and public areas.</p> <p>The robot was equipped with an experimental front structure allowing different bumper heights and measurement of reaction forces. On the other hand, the human dummies were equipped with standard instrumentation calibrated in accordance with SAE J211-1 for impact tests, thus, the child dummy, Q3 provided head accelerations, neck forces and moments, chest deflections, and accelerations; and pelvis accelerations. The dummy H3 provided forces and moments at the tibia and femur, and accelerations at the pelvis, chest, and head. Qualitative Data on Effects of Early and Prolonged Parent-Child Separation: Understanding Mental Health of Separated-Reunited Chinese American Children

<div> <div> <div> <div>Early and prolonged parent-child separation due to parental migration or immigration may result in attachment disruption that can threaten the long-term mental health and functioning of affected children, and these risks can persist following reunification and through adulthood. Although sending infants back to the home country for rearing is often practiced among <em>Chinese</em>&nbsp;immigrants, especially low-income families, research has been sparse in understanding the long-term impact of early and prolonged parent-child separation and reunification on disparities in mental health and functioning among separated-reunited children and the mechanism through which such relationships may operate.</div> <div>Funded by&nbsp;National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMH), we collected semi-structured interview data from 24 parent-child dyads who have experienced separation. CINECA synthetic cohort NA Canada CHILD [CC-BY-NC-SA]

<p>The &quot;CINECA synthetic cohort NA Canada CHILD&quot; dataset is a synthetic dataset developed to provide insight into how data is structured for select common attributes in the <a href="https://childstudy.ca/">CHILD Cohort Study</a>, but not reveal any personal or identifiable information associated with cohort participants. Such synthetic datasets are valuable for software developers to be able to see specific examples of data for common attributes (i.e. a minimal metadata model of a selection of common variables usually present in cohorts). This dataset comprises 100 variables for 150 synthetic participants which have faked phenotypic data that reflects CHILD cohort data. In addition, there is genetic data based on the <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/nature15393">1000 Genomes</a> project. This dataset was created within the context of the <a href="https://www.cineca-project.eu/">CINECA</a> project. More information about the creation of this dataset can be found in the included documentation.&nbsp;</p> <p><br> <em>Please note this preamble must be included with any distribution of this dataset:&nbsp;</em>This synthetic dataset (with cohort &ldquo;participants&rdquo; / &rdquo;subjects&rdquo; marked with FAKE) has no identifiable data and cannot be used to make any inference about CHILD cohort data or results. What drives poor quality of care for child diarrhea? Experimental evidence from India

<p>Most healthcare providers in developing countries know that oral rehydration salts (ORS) is a lifesaving treatment for child diarrhea, yet few prescribe it. This know-do gap has puzzled experts for decades and has cost millions of lives. Using several randomized controlled trials among private providers in 253 towns in India, we estimated the extent to which ORS under-prescription is driven by financial incentives to sell more lucrative medicines, stock-outs of ORS, and provider perceptions that patients do not want ORS. We found that patients expressing a preference for ORS increased ORS prescribing by 27 percentage points. Eliminating stock-outs increased ORS provision by 6.8 percentage points. Eliminating financial incentives to sell medicines had no effect on average but increased ORS prescribing at pharmacies by 9 percentage points. Our findings, combined with patient exit surveys suggest that provider perceptions that patients do not want ORS explain 42% of under-prescribing, while stock-outs and financial incentives explain only 6% and 5% respectively.</p>

Response to COVID-19: Clients' perspectives on the utilization of reproductive, maternal and child health care services in Nigeria

<p>This dataset was a part of a cross-sectional descriptive study in 320 rural communities in 32 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and 9 out of the 36 Nigerian States in 2020. The dataset contains views of women who used primary health care centres in the selected LGAs for maternal and child health care, and family planning services before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in Nigeria. The sample size was determined using the Yamane sample size formula. The estimated sample size per State was 384 (3,840 for nine States and FCT), with a 10% adjustment for non-response, the total sample size was 422 per State or location (4220 for the nine States and FCT). The data are stored in SPSS format.&nbsp;<br> The study was an initiative of UNFPA Nigeria. They coordinated it under the One UN Basket fund to respond to COVID-19 and implemented it under the supervision of three national NGOs: The Women&rsquo;s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC), Education as a Vaccine (EVA), and the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN).&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Child Diabetes Study Data File (2022)

<p>This file contains anonymised data from our publication titled, &quot;Exploring the determinants of mental health, wellbeing, and lifestyle in 8-11 year old children with Type 1 diabetes and their healthy counterparts in Kuwait&quot;. The present, second version of the data file is identical to the first, but we have now added coding and unit information to the file.</p> <p>Abstract: Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease with an early onset, but little is known about its psychological effects in middle childhood. The present study was the first to explore the relationship between mental health, wellbeing, and lifestyle of 8-11 years old children with Type 1 diabetes and their parents, and a healthy comparison group. A total of 200 parent-child dyads were recruited in diabetic clinics and from primary schools in Kuwait. Both groups completed a series of behavioural and physical assessments relating to health, wellbeing, and lifestyle. A significant relationship was found between higher Body Mass Index (BMI), and poorer mental health, including low academic self-esteem, depression, and anxiety in the young diabetes group. Diabetes group had significantly higher mean scores in mental health problems, and lower scores in wellbeing, compared with control group. Both groups had poor dietary habits and low levels of physical activity. Unlike previous studies, no differences were found between parents&rsquo; mental health for children with Type 1 diabetes and parents of the control group. Although elevated problem scores on a variety of indices remained within normal range, the pattern of results indicates that children with diabetes would profit from early screening and preventative intervention to reduce the likelihood of psychological and behavioural difficulties later on.</p>

Factors associated with child abuse in children and adolescents in a Peruvian public hospital

<p>The study&#39;s objective was to determine the factors associated with the type of child and adolescent abuse of the MAMIS program, Hip&oacute;lito Unanue hospital, Tacna-Peru region, 2019-2021. It had a quantitative, retrospective, cross-sectional, correlational approach in which 174 child abuse cases in children and adolescents were examined. It was found that the predominant personal factors were located in the ages of 12-17 years (57.4%), secondary level (51.15%), female sex (56.9%), and do not consume alcohol and/or drugs (88.5%). The family factors that stood out were the type of single parenteral family (48.28%), the age of both parents was 30-59 years (58.5%), the divorced, marital status (37.3%), secondary level (68.9%), the occupation of the independent parents (64.9%), there is no history of the parents having suffered violence (91.3%), there are no problems of addiction or alcohol consumption and/or drugs (95.40%), and at the same time there are no psychiatric disorders (95.4%). The types of child abuse that prevails is the psychological type (93.68%), followed by the type of neglect or abandonment (38.51%), the physical type (37.93%), and sexual abuse (27.0%). It is concluded that there is a significant relationship, with a confidence level of 95%, between personal factors such as the age of the minor with psychological abuse and sexual abuse<strong>; </strong>the sex of the minor with physical abuse and sexual abuse; the consumption of alcohol and/or drugs with the physical abuse of children and adolescents.</p>
