The portrayal of underlings in Eastern Cālukya copper plates: textual analysis data with revised codebook

This is a textual analysis dataset derived from Eastern Cālukya copperplate grants. The second version of 24 April 2024 contains a slightly revised codebook (in DOC and PDF formats with identical contents) in addition to the earlier dataset. This revision is essentially identical to that reflected in the "Revised tag" column of the dataset, except that many definitions have been made clearer and tidier, and a small number of intermediate-level categories have been added for better hierarchisation. The codes in use have not been altered.

The data accompany the following forthcoming publications (title and date of publication subject to change):

Balogh, Dániel (forthcoming 2024), 'The portrayal of underlings in Eastern Cālukya copper plates'. In: Self-Representation and Presentation of Others in Indic Epigraphical Writing, edited by Annette Schmiedchen and Dániel Balogh. Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz.

Balogh, Dániel (forthcoming 2024). ‘Textual Analysis Methodology and Royal Representation in Copperplate Grants’. In Bhūtārthakathane ... Sarasvatī: Reading Poetry as a History Book, edited by Marco Franceschini, Chiara Livio, and Lidia Wojtczak. Studies on the History of Śaivism. Naples: UniorPress.

The former publication introduces the method sketched out on the introductory page of this dataset and studies a particular topic through this methodology, while the latter discusses the method in more detail. An account of the technical details is in preparation by Balogh.

This dataset, the underlying research and the relevant publications are results of the project DHARMA ‘The Domestication of “Hindu” Asceticism and the Religious Making of South and Southeast Asia’. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement no 809994).

GAPs Data Repository on Return: Guideline, Data Samples and Codebook

The GAPs Data Repository provides a comprehensive overview of available qualitative and quantitative data on national return regimes, now accessible through an advanced web interface at https://data.returnmigration.eu/.

This updated guideline outlines the complete process, starting from the initial data collection for the return migration data repository to the development of a comprehensive web-based platform. Through iterative development, participatory approaches, and rigorous quality checks, we have ensured a systematic representation of return migration data at both national and comparative levels.

The Repository organizes data into five main categories, covering diverse aspects and offering a holistic view of return regimes: country profiles, legislation, infrastructure, international cooperation, and descriptive statistics. These categories, further divided into subcategories, are based on insights from a literature review, existing datasets, and empirical data collection from 14 countries. The selection of categories prioritizes relevance for understanding return and readmission policies and practices, data accessibility, reliability, clarity, and comparability. Raw data is meticulously collected by the national experts.

The transition to a web-based interface builds upon the Repository’s original structure, which was initially developed using REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture). It is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. The REDCAP ensures systematic data entries and store them on Uppsala University’s servers while significantly improving accessibility and usability as well as data security. It also enables users to export any or all data from the Project when granted full data export privileges. Data can be exported in various ways and formats, including Microsoft Excel, SAS, Stata, R, or SPSS for analysis. At this stage, the Data Repository design team also converted tailored records of available data into public reports accessible to anyone with a unique URL, without the need to log in to REDCap or obtain permission to access the GAPs Project Data Repository. Public reports can be used to share information with stakeholders or external partners without granting them access to the Project or requiring them to set up a personal account. Currently, all public report links inserted in this report are also available on the Repository’s webpage, allowing users to export original data.

This report also includes a detailed codebook to help users understand the structure, variables, and methodologies used in data collection and organization. This addition ensures transparency and provides a comprehensive framework for researchers and practitioners to effectively interpret the data.

The GAPs Data Repository is committed to providing accessible, well-organized, and reliable data by moving to a centralized web platform and incorporating advanced visuals. This Repository aims to contribute inputs for research, policy analysis, and evidence-based decision-making in the return and readmission field.

Explore the GAPs Data Repository at https://data.returnmigration.eu/.

Pandemic Border Discourses Dataset and Codebook - Swiss Case

The Pandemic Border Discourses project identifies and compares the evolution of discourses restricting internal and external mobility in Europe as the Covid-19 pandemic is unfolding. It is designed to show how political actors use discourses to justify their decisions in emergency situations, and analyse whether and how unforeseen systemic pressure disrupts bordering discourses and practices. It contributes to a better understanding of the political, social and economic issues driving policy decision in times of crisis, above all the tension between national interest and transnational solidarity.

This coding manual explains our data collection strategy and introduces the variables of the dataset. Building on a core-sentence analysis method, we collect and analyse institutional discourses about mobility during the Covid-19 crisis on Twitter.

Polidoc.net CODEBOOK: National and Regional Manifestos and other Political Documents Collected for the Research Projects "Representation in Europe: Congruence between Preferences of Elites and Voters" (REPCONG) and "The Impact of EU Cohesion Policy on European Identification" (COHESIFY)

The Political Documents Archive http://www.polidoc.net/ contains election manifestos, coalition agreements, government declarations and various other documents of political actors from developed democracies. Currently, the archive builds on a stock of more than 3000 political documents from 20 European countries. The aim of the repository is to provide political texts in order to facilitate scholarly research in different areas of comparative politics such as party competition, coalition politics, legislative decision-making or electoral behavior.

National electoral manifestos have been collected in the course of the REPCONG project ("Representation in Europe: Policy Congruence between Citizens and Elites"), and the archive includes party manifestos for regional elections in several European democracies. Because the process of European integration resulted in a strengthening of regions in EU member states and in countries that want to join the European Union, the relevance of the regional level for political decision-making has increased during the last decades. Therefore, also the policy profiles of regional parties are required to get a full picture of democratic responsiveness in European states across all levels of the political system. The collection of regional manifestos was supported by the COHESIFY project (www.cohesify.eu), funded under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The aim of COHESIFY is to study whether the European Structural and Investment Funds affect people’s support for and identification with the European project.

The archive is freely accessible (after a simple registration) and meant to foster rigorous research in these areas by enabling scholars to produce valid and reliable findings from empirical studies of textual data rather than unnecessarily struggling to obtain and process texts.

Labour Law Database, with Codebook

The WageIndicator Labour Law Database aims to collect information about national Labour Law. The database is used to publish relevant clauses with information about the national Labour Law on the national WageIndicator websites and on the home page of WageIndicator (see National Labour Law Information - WageIndicator.org). All Labour Law clauses in the database are also coded, according to a coding scheme, as presented in the attached codebook. These codes support the generation of the biennial Labour Rights Index for all countries in the database (see https://labourrightsindex.org/).

The Index is a de jure index that measures major aspects of employment regulation affecting a worker during the employment life cycle. The Labour Rights Index covers 10 topics/indica tors and 46 evaluation criteria. All of these are based on substantive elements of the Decent Work Agenda. The criteria are all grounded in UDHR, five UN Conventions, five ILO Declarations, 35 ILO Conventions, and four ILO Recommendations.

The Labour Law database is used for the Decent Work Check, a tried and tested WageIndicator product. Created together with trade unions and employers organisations and WageIndicator teams. The Decent Work Check is used as an offline tool - in print. The check works as an awareness tool and a quick check of your labour law knowledge. The Decent Work Check is seen as an eyeopener for workers, trade unionists, employers and even labour inspectors. The data collection started in 2013 with 16 countries, and gradually more countries were added. As of today, the WageIndicator Labour Law Database holds detailed country profiles for 118 countries. More countries are scheduled for the years to come (see https://wageindicator.org/labour-laws/labour-law-around-the-world/decent-work-check). Each year, the national labour laws are checked for updates. In addition, the database is also used to generate Decent Work Surveys, whereby workers are informed about the compliance of their job with the Labour Law. In 2024 these Surveys are running in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Indonesia (see https://wageindicator.org/about/projects/multi-actor-partnership-for-improved-due-diligence-implementation-in-the-textile-sector-via-worker-and-community-based-monitoring, https://wageindicator.org/about/projects/living-wages-in-flowers-garment-leather-in-ethiopia-phase-iii,

https://wageindicator.org/about/projects/makin-terang-improving-work-and-worker-representation-in-indonesia).

The data collection method is through desk research, which is possible because all national laws can be accessed through the Internet. The database is based on more than 13 years of research by WageIndicator Foundation (Netherlands) and its labour law office, i.e., the Centre for Labour Research (Pakistan). More than 30 WageIndicator team members have contributed to the Index by providing relevant data informing various indicators under the Index.

The WageIndicator Labour Law Database includes coded labour law data for all countries with a Decent Work Check plus for countries that are scheduled to be included for the Decent Work Check tool. The codes for the Decent Work Check countries are double checked, which is not yet the case for the countries not yet included. The list of these Decent Work Check countries can be found in Table 5 in the Codebook. Table 1 provides a list of all variables and values in the database; variable type and value labels; number of observations and minimum and maximum values. Table 2 holds a list of industries, according to the NACE industry classification. Table 3 has a list of the job titles, coded according to. Table 4 includes a list of the codes and names of the bank holidays.

Codebook for the analysis of focus group interview data collected as part of the DETECT project.

This is the codebook created for the analysis of focus group interview data collected as part of the DETECT project. In particular, nine interviews were conducted with primary and secondary school teachers in Finland, Italy, Spain and the UK in order to explore their perceptions of critical digital literacies and how these are manifested in their practices. The interviews were organised and conducted by the researchers in the respective local HEIs between February-June 2020. A total of 7 focus-groups interviews took place with a total number of 39 participating teachers (7 from Finland, 6 from the UK, 9 from Spain and 17 from Italy). The interviews were conducted both face to face (schools in Spain) and online (schools in Finland, Italy and the UK) due to pandemic-related restrictions imposed shortly after the start of the data collection period.

The collected data were read and segmented and all interview excerpts relating to the Critical Digital Literacies framework sub-dimensions were marked and chosen for the analysis. The total number of marked segments was 666 in all nine focus group interviews. To ensure the reliability of the analyses, the researchers translated and collected a representative sample of codings (n=117 out of 666) for each sub-dimensions from each school and these were examined by all researchers in several consensus meetings and the final criteria for each sub-category were constructed together based on those discussions.

This dataset accompanies the intellectual outputs of the DETECT project, including amongst others this report:

Gouseti, A., Bruni, I., Ilomäki, L., Lakkala, M., Mundy, D., Raffaghelli, J., Ranieri, M., Roffi, A., Romero, M. and Romeu, T. Data and Codebook for: Post-recovery relapse of children treated with a simplified, combined nutrition treatment protocol in Mali : a prospective cohort study

Data and Codebook to recreate analyses for the study.

Abstract: The present study aimed to determine the 6-month incidence of relapse and associated factors among children who recovered following mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) based simplified combined treatment using the ComPAS protocol. A prospective cohort of 420 children who had reached a MUAC ≥125 mm for two consecutive measures was monitored between December 2020 and October 2021. Children were seen at home by study enumerators fortnightly for 6 months. Relapse was defined as developing a MUAC <125 mm or edema. The overall 6-month cumulative incidence of relapse [95%CI] was 26.1% [21.7;30.8] and the incidence rate per 100 child-months was 4.8 [4.0;5.9]. Relapse was similar among children initially admitted to treatment with a MUAC<115mm or oedema and among those with a MUAC≥115mm but <125mm. Relapse was predicted by lower anthropometry both at admission to and discharge from treatment, and higher number of illness episodes per month of follow-up. Having a vaccination card, using an improved water source, having agriculture as the main source of income and increases in caregivers workload during follow-up all protected from relapse. Children discharged recovered following treatment remain at risk of relapsing into acute malnutrition. To achieve reduction in relapse, recovery criteria may need to be revised.
