<p>The data for each figure of the main manuscript is included in this folder.</p> <p>Figure 1 is not included as it contains no data.</p> <p>The folder for Figure 2 contains a sub-folder for the EDX and NMR data of 9-ACA/PbS@AlOx. The NMR data was processed by Mestrenova.</p> <p>The folder for Figure 3 contains optical absorption spectrum data of 9-ACA/PbS@AlOx.</p> <p>The folder for Figure 4 contains NMR data which was processed by Mestrenova. Optical tweezer platform for the characterization of pH-triggered colloidal transformations in the oleic acid/water system

<p>Hypothesis: Soft colloidal particles that respond to their environment have innovative potential for many fields ranging from food and health to biotechnology and oil recovery. The in situ characterisation of colloidal transformations that triggers the functional response remain a challenge.</p> <p>Experiments: This study demonstrates the combination of an optical&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/physics-and-astronomy/micromanipulation">micromanipulation</a>&nbsp;platform, polarized optical video microscopy and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/physics-and-astronomy/microfluidics">microfluidics</a>&nbsp;in a comprehensive approach for the analysis of pH-driven structural transformations in emulsions. The new platform, together with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/physics-and-astronomy/synchrotron">synchrotron</a>&nbsp;small angle X-ray scattering, was then applied to research the food-relevant, pH-responsive,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/chemistry/oleic-acid">oleic acid</a>&nbsp;in water system.</p> <p>Findings: The experiments demonstrate structural transformations in individual oleic acid particles from micron-sized onion-type multilamellar oleic acid vesicles at pH 8.6, to nanostructured emulsions at pH &lt; 8.0, and eventually oil droplets at pH &lt; 6.5. The smooth particle-water interface of the onion-type vesicles at pH 8.6 was transformed into a rough particle surface at pH below 7.5. The pH-triggered changes of the interfacial tension at the droplet-water interface together with mass transport owing to structural transformations induced a self-propelled motion of the particle. The results of this study contribute to the fundamental understanding of the structure&ndash;property relationship in pH-responsive emulsions for nutrient and drug delivery applications.</p>

[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2311.05309" target="_blank" rel="noopener">link</a>]</div> <p>It provides a comprehensive collection of three-dimensional reconstructions and quantitative descriptors for small colloidal particles. These gold nanoparticles are arranged in tetrahedral and other intricate geometries under both dry and liquid conditions. The dataset contains 3D reconstructions and quantitative indicators such as centroids, volumes, surface areas, solidity measures, and principal axis lengths for assemblies with 4, 5, and 6 particles.&nbsp;</p> <p>The dataset includes: <code>N4_dry_dart.rec</code> and <code>N4_liquid_dart.rec</code> for the 3D reconstructions of an assembly with 4 particles in dry and liquid conditions respectively; <code>N4_quant_descriptors_dry.mat</code> and <code>N4_quant_descriptors_liquid.mat</code> providing quantitative descriptors for these conditions. Similar files are provided for assemblies with 5 and 6 particles, such as <code>N5_dry_dart.rec</code>, <code>N5_liquid_dart.rec</code>, <code>N5_quant_descriptors_dry.mat</code>, <code>N5_quant_descriptors_liquid.mat</code>, and the corresponding files for N6.&nbsp;</p> <p>This dataset can be used to study the structural dynamics of nanoparticle assemblies and studies in colloidal chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology. Customizable induction heating profiles: from tailored colloidally stable nanoparticles towards multi-stage heatable supraparticles

<p>This data publication is based on the metadata and datasets underlying the manuscript: "Inductively heatable nano- and supraparticles: from colloidally stable hot nanoparticles to supraparticles with customizable multi-stage heating profiles"</p> <p>Magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) are efficient heat mediators in induction heating. Originally explored for hyperthermia, their applications have broadened to industrial processes where temperature control is crucial. By adjusting the NP composition or morphology, magnetic characteristics such as Curie temperatures can be tailored, allowing control over maximum heating thresholds. These NPs are, however, usually designed for maximum heating rates at specific magnetic fields. In this work, the synthesis is presented for colloidally stable Co and ZnCo ferrite NPs with customizable maximum heating temperatures, and their combination within micron-scaled supraparticles (SPs). Maximum induction heating temperatures of ZnCo ferrite NPs are tuned between 150 and 220 &deg;C, while customization of Co ferrite species yields temperatures between 200 and 350 &deg;C. These distinct magnetic properties are exploited in the selective multi-stage heating of SPs consisting of both species. Here, ZnCo ferrite components heat up to a first temperature plateau at low alternating magnetic fields (AMF), while Co ferrite NPs reach higher temperatures at increased AMF. The precise control of induction heating thresholds through the adaptability of NPs offers a high degree of customizability which makes induction heating particularly attractive for applications requiring sequential or spatial heating, such as catalysis or debonding on demand.</p>

Replication Data for Coloring Tetrahedral Semiconductors: Synthesis and Photoluminescence Enhancement of Ternary II-III2‑VI4 Colloidal Nanocrystals

<p>Ternary tetrahedral II-III2-VI4 semiconductors, where II is Zn or Cd, III&nbsp;In or Ga, and VI S, Se, or Te, are of interest in UV radiation detectors in medicine and&nbsp;space physics as well as CO2 photoreduction under visible light. We synthesize&nbsp;colloidal II-III2-VI4 semiconductor nanocrystals from readily available precursors and<br>ascertain their ternary nature by structural and spectroscopic methods, including 77Se&nbsp;solid-state NMR spectroscopy. The pyramidally shaped nanocrystals range between 2&nbsp;and 12 nm and exhibit optical gaps of 2&minus;3.9 eV. In the presence of excess anions on&nbsp;the particle surface, treatment with Lewis acidic, Z-type ligands results in better&nbsp;passivation and enhanced photoluminescence. Electronic structure calculations reveal<br>the most stable, lowest energy polymorphs and coloring patterns. This work will pave&nbsp;the way toward more environmentally friendly, ternary semiconductors for optoelectronics and electrocatalysis.</p>

Colloidal-ALD Grown Hybrid Shells Nucleate via a Ligand–Precursor Complex

<p>Colloidal atomic layer deposition (c-ALD) enables the growth of hybrid organic&ndash;inorganic oxide shells with tunable thickness<br> at the nanometer scale around ligand-functionalized inorganic nanoparticles (NPs). This recently developed method has demonstrated improved stability of NPs and of their dispersions, a key requirement for their application.<br> Nevertheless, the mechanism by which the inorganic shells form is still unknown, as is the nature of multiple complex interfaces between the NPs, the organic ligands functionalizing the surface, and the shell. Here, we demonstrate that carboxylate ligands are the key element that enables the synthesis of these core&ndash;shell structures. Dynamic nuclear polarization surface-enhanced nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (DNP SENS) in combination with density functional theory (DFT) structure calculations shows that the addition of the aluminum organometallic precursor forms a ligand&ndash;precursor complex that interacts with the NP surface. This ligand&ndash;precursor complex is the first step for the nucleation of the shell and enables its further growth.</p>

Standardization of Methodology of Light-to-Heat Conversion Efficiency Determination for Colloidal Nanoheaters

<p>Localized photothermal therapy (PTT) has been demonstrated to be a promising method of combating cancer, that additionally synergistically enhances other treatment modalities such as photodynamic therapy or chemotherapy. PTT exploits nanoparticles (called nanoheaters), that upon proper biofunctionalization may target cancerous tissues, and under light stimulation may convert the energy of photons to heat, leading to local overheating and treatment of cancerous cells. Despite extensive work, there is, however, no agreement on how to accurately and quantitatively compare light-to-heat conversion efficiency (&eta;Q) and rank the nanoheating performances of various groups of nanomaterials. This disagreement is highly problematic because the obtained &eta;Q values, measured with various methods, differ significantly for similar nanomaterials. In this work, we experimentally review existing optical setups, methods, and physical models used to evaluate &eta;Q. In order to draw a binding conclusion, we cross-check and critically evaluate the same Au@SiO2 sample in various experimental conditions. This critical study let us additionally compare and understand the influence of the other experimental factors, such as stirring, data recording and analysis, and assumptions on the effective mass of the system, in order to determine &eta;Q in a most straightforward and reproducible way. Our goal is therefore to contribute to the understanding, standardization, and reliable evaluation of &eta;Q measurements, aiming to accurately rank various nanoheater platforms.</p>
