Spartina alterniflora marsh vegetation data along the Georgia coast used in the Belowground Ecosystem Resiliency Model version 2.0

Study plots (1-m2) were established in eight Spartina alterniflora-dominated marshes (7 on Sapelo Island, Georgia, and 1 on Skidaway Island, Georgia). At three sites, plots were sampled once each during May, July, August, September, and October of 2016. At all sites, plots were sampled once each during June, August, and November of 2021, February, May, August, and November of 2022, and February of 2023. One long-term (quarterly 2013 to 2023) GCE LTER sampling site is also included. Nine replicate plots were placed in vegetated marsh along transects that spanned 3 Landsat-8 and -9 pixel footprints, with 3 plots per pixel footprint. In each plot, measurements included plant biomass, plant species, stem density, and height. Aboveground biomass was calculated using allometric relationships between plant height and mass from plant clipping studies. During these surveys, destructive core sampling was also performed in the proximity of the plots (n = 1 per plot) to measure above and below ground biomass. Chlorophyll, foliar N, and Leaf Area Index measurements were taken in the proximity of the plots. This dataset reflects an update to the "PLT-GCED-2106" dataset (doi: 10.6073/pasta/03f4f78c6498aecca34faf4339591129). This project also utilized data from the "PLT-GCEM-1610" dataset doi: 10.6073/pasta/9746c71b35e9f8c544ea12c601c33949). Those data utilized in this project are duplicated here for completeness.

COgnitive intervention to Restore attention using nature Environment (CORE) study data

<p>The COgnitive intervention to Restore attention using nature Environment (CORE) study is single-blinded, two-group randomized-controlled pilot trial among patients with heart failure. The aims to test the preliminary efficacy of the newly developed Nature-VR, a virtual reality-based cognitive intervention that is based on the restorative effects of nature. The Nature-VR intervention group viewed 3-dimensional nature pictures using a virtual reality headset for 10 minutes per day, 5 days per week for 4 weeks (a total of 200 minutes). The active comparison group, Urban-VR, viewed 3-dimensional urban pictures using a virtual reality headset to match the Nature-VR intervention in intervention dose and delivery mode, but not in content. In this study, 73 participants with heart failure completed the baseline and randomized to either Nature-VR or Urban-VR. The target outcomes were attention, self-care of heart failure, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). After baseline data collection, 4 follow-up data were collected at 4, 8, 26, and 52 weeks.</p>

Fish tag data remotely detected using whole stream antennas or hand held tag readers in the Kuparuk, Itkilik, and Sagavanirktok drainages near Toolik Field Station, Alaska, from 2010 to 2017

From 2009 to 2017, the FISHSCAPE Project (grant numbers 1719267, 1417754, and 0902153), based at Toolik Field Station, has monitored physical, chemical, and biological parameters within three watersheds: The Kuparuk (including Toolik Lake and Toolik outlet stream); The Sagavanirktok (primarily Oksrukuyik Creek, but also including sections of the Ailish and Atigun Rivers and the Galbraith Lakes); and The Itkillik (primarily the I-Minus outlet stream, a tributary that that feeds into the Itkilik River). Target species were primarily Arctic grayling and Lake trout, although Arctic char, Burbot, Dolly varden, round whitefish, and slimey sculpin were also captured. This file contains the detectioned fish tags using whole stream or hand-held antennas in the three watersheds. We had no field season in 2014 and thus did not deploy antennaes. Fish were tagged with Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tags which can be read with a whole stream antenna to track the migration of the fish, predominately Arctic grayling, throughout the systems. Fish tags detected with a handheld readers are designated in Site ID as "XXX_capture". For "capture" fish time is arbitraily set at '7:00:00'' of the day of capture and tagging because actual time was not recorded. The individual fish data (date, tag number, length, weight, species) associated with the tag can be found in the 2009-2017_FISHSCAPE_fish_tagging file.

May to July 2018 regions of interest (ROIs) of tidal marsh and tidal forest plant species to be used as ground reference data in habitat mapping

We collected field data from sites distributed in habitats along the salinity axis of the Altamaha River estuary and the Duplin River to be used as ground reference data for habitat mapping. Regions of interest (ROIs) for tidal marsh (salt, brackish, tidal fresh) and tidal fresh forest vegetation species were generated near ground control points (GCP) by digitizing vegetation areas in ArcGIS 10.4 based on field maps. These observations will be used to create habitat maps from aerial photographs of the Altamaha River estuary, GA taken following Hurricane Irma to better understand how the storm surge affected tidal vegetation and to examine any shifts in vegetation type.

Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest: Data in support of Territory sizes and patterns of habitat use by forest passerines over five decades: Ideal free or ideal despotic?, Zammarelli et al.

In this study, we analyzed territory sizes of seven migratory songbirds occupying a 10-hectare plot in the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, New Hampshire, USA over a 52-year period (1969-2021). All species varied in abundance over the duration of the study, some dramatically. Changes in territory sizes were inversely related to changes in abundance within the study plot despite differences in habitat preference, supporting the ideal free distribution. Territory sizes varied two-fold within a year across species. Results contribute to understanding how variation in territory size relates to 1) how habitat use changes with bird abundance, 2) the evolution of territory size, and 3) the role of territoriality in population dynamics. This dataset includes data, R code, and spatial files supporting this study. These data were gathered as part of the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study (HBES). The HBES is a collaborative effort at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, which is operated and maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station. PEATCLSM(Tb): A land surface data assimilation product for peatlands using PEATCLSM and brightness temperature (Tb) satellite observations (Northern Hemisphere output)

<p>The datasets archived here include simulation results shown in the paper, &ldquo;Improved Groundwater Table and L-band Brightness Temperature Estimates for Northern Hemisphere Peatlands Using New Model Physics and SMOS Observations in a Global Data Assimilation Framework&rdquo;, published in Remote Sensing of Environment Journal (Bechtold et al., 2020). The output was produced by combining peatland-specific land surface modeling (Bechtold et al., 2019b) embedded in the NASA Catchment Land Surface Model (CLSM) with L-band brightness temperature (Tb) observations (SMOS), applying the data assimilation framework of the SMAP Level‐4 Soil Moisture product (Reichle et al., 2019). We provide netcdf files (9-km resolution EASEv2 grid, period Jan 2010 &ndash; Nov 2019, and between 45&deg;N and 70&deg;N, NE Asia excluded) of the four experiments of the manuscript: model-only (open-loop, OL) and data assimilation (DA) for each land model version, that is CLSM without and with the use of the PEATCLSM modules. The highest accuracy is provided by the DA product using PEATCLSM and Tb observations. When referring to the latter product use the name &lsquo;PEATCLSM(Tb)&rsquo;.
