Time series of dissolved methane and carbon dioxide concentrations for Falling Creek Reservoir, Beaverdam Reservoir and Carvins Cove Reservoir in southwestern Virginia, USA during 2015-2025
Surface samples and depth profiles of carbon dioxide and methane concentrations were sampled from 2015 to 2025 in three drinking water reservoirs in southwestern Virginia, USA: Beaverdam Reservoir (Vinton, Virginia), Carvins Cove Reservoir (Roanoke, Virginia), and Falling Creek Reservoir (Vinton, Virginia). All three reservoirs are owned and operated by the Western Virginia Water Authority as primary or secondary drinking water sources for Roanoke, Virginia. The dataset consists of depth profiles of dissolved greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide, methane) samples measured at the deepest site of each reservoir adjacent to the dam. Additional surface samples were collected at a gauged weir on Falling Creek Reservoir's primary inflow tributary, from a wetland adjacent to Falling Creek Reservoir, and from the reservoir outflow. At Beaverdam Reservoir, additional samples were collected at three outflow sites below the dam and at the mid-reservoir outflow. Samples were collected approximately fortnightly from March-April, weekly from May-October, and monthly in November-February at Falling Creek Reservoir and Beaverdam Reservoir. Samples were collected twice in 2025 at Carvins Cove Reservoir. Additionally, upstream surface samples were taken at multiple tributaries in Carvins Cove Reservoir. In 2019, surface samples along the stream and reservoir continuum in both Falling Creek Reservoir and Beaverdam Reservoir were collected monthly during the summer stratified period. In 2025, littoral samples were collected from Falling Creek Reservoir monthly from June to October (see site descriptions file for geographic coordinates of sampling sites). A maintenance log and quality assurance/quality control analysis scripts accompany the data package.
Short-term high-frequency water dissolved carbon dioxide, temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity and pH data from 8 Estonian lakes in year 2014
This dataset was used in the analysis described in the manuscript by Khan, H., A. Laas, R. Marcé, B. Obrador. Major effects of alkalinity on the relationship between metabolism and dissolved inorganic carbon dynamics in lakes. In review: Ecosystems. This dataset was used to calculate short term changes of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) concentrations and its variability in Estonian lakes. DIC data were compared with measured dissolved oxygen (DO) data in lakes covering a range of different alkalinity levels. Our results suggest that a large part of the measured variability in DO and DIC reflects non-metabolic processes. In lakes of lower alkalinity, DIC dynamics appear to be mostly driven by aquatic metabolism, whereas in lakes of higher alkalinity calcite precipitation plays a major role on DIC dynamics and needs to be considered along with metabolism.
2017 seasonal high frequency monitoring of Upper Clark Fork River (Montana, USA) dissolved carbon dioxide, pH, and electrical conductivity
These data were collected by the University of Montana and Montana State University to support the Upper Clark Fork River restoration monitoring project supported by the US NSF Long Term Research in Environmental Biology (LTREB) program. The original analytical intent for these data was to assess the response of river metabolic regime to the floodplain restoration via inference of whole-ecosystem metabolism from the daily variation in carbon dioxide concentrations. Data are primarily measurements of dissolved carbon dioxide, pH, electrical conductivity, and temperature in well-mixed river thalweg water. Additional miscellaneous data were collected for quality control. Data are from late in the 2017 field season. Data were collected on the Upper Clark Fork River (USGS HUC 17010201) at the Galen and Racetrack sites northeast of Anaconda, Montana, USA. High frequency carbon dioxide and pH data were collected using field deployments SAMI sensors from Sunburst Sensors (Missoula, Montana, USA). Electrical conductivity data was collected with a HOBO sensor from Onset Computer Corporation (Bourne, Massachusetts, USA).
Radiocarbon and stable carbon isotopes of carbon dioxide produced by respiration of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) leached from permafrost soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in the summers of 2018 and 2022
Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was leached from permafrost soils near the Toolik Field Station in the Alaskan Arctic, either kept in the dark or exposed to light treatments, and then incubated with native permafrost microbial communities. The radiocarbon (14C) and stable carbon (13C) isotopic compositions of the initial DOC present in the dark or light-exposed permafrost soil leachates and the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by microbial respiration of dark or light-exposed permafrost DOC were quantified.
15-minute measurements of water temperature, dissolved carbon dioxide, and air carbon dioxide concentration in 10 New Hampshire and Massachusetts streams, 2015-2020.
Water temperature, dissolved carbon dioxide, and air carbon dioxide were measured at 10 streams and rivers in New Hampshire and northeast Massachusetts during snow-free periods (roughly April to November) at 15-minute intervals, from 2015 to 2020. Five sites were part of the New Hampshire EPSCoR High Intensity Aquatic Network, three sites are part of the Plum Island Ecosystems LTER, and two sites are part of long-term monitoring projects of the Oyster River watershed near Durham, NH.

Radiocarbon content of carbon dioxide, methane, dissolved organic carbon and particulate organic carbon from the northern permafrost region and other studies
<p>The dataset includes 14C measurements of CO2, CH4, DOC and POC mostly from the northern permafrost region. Some other studies are included from sites not underlained by permafrost. The dataset focuses on 14C measurements of gaseous soil emissions and waterborne ecosystem C fluxes but the database also included C forms belowground, such as soil gases and pore water DOC. </p>
