Dataset and R script for the analysis in the article "Food waste between environmental education, peers, and family influence. Insights from primary school students in Northern Italy", Journal of Cleaner Production

We hereby publish the dataset (with metadata) and the R script (R Core team, 2018) used for implementing the analysis presented in the paper "Food waste between environmental education, peers, and family influence. Insights from primary school students in Northern Italy", Journal of Cleaner Production (Piras et al., 2023). The dataset is provided in csv format with semicolons as separators and "NA" for missing data. The dataset includes all the variables used in at least one of the models presented in the paper, either in the main text or in the Supplementary Material. Other variables gathered by means of the questionnaires included as Supplementary Material of the paper have been removed. The dataset includes inputted values for missing data on independent variables. These were inputted using two approaches: last observation carried forward (LOCF) - preferred when possible - and last observation carried backward (LOCB). The metadata are presented as a PDF file.

KEE01 Prairie phenology data from Konza Environmental Education Program (KEEP) since 2001
This data represents the "phenology" or timing of observable biological processes, e.g. first day of blooming, first sighting of a migratory species, etc... as reported by volunteers with the Konza Environmental Education Program. The reports do not follow a specific experimental design and are based on the individual's knowledge and skills. Data is also available on the KEEP website (https://keep.konza.k-state.edu/prairieecology/index.html).
Students' perceptions of an environmental education program.

This database contains 185 records. It was developed using a questionnaire to evaluate students' perceptions of an environmental educommunication program. The variables measured are:

1 Gender: 1 male, 2 female, 3 non-binary

2 Age: 12 to 17

3 Type of school. 1: private, 2: public, 3: state-funded private school

4 -11: measured using the following scale:

5 totally agree

4 agree

3 neither agree nor disagree

2 disagree

1 strongly disagree

Environmental Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic Dataset

Data files that support the capstone thesis Environmental Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic by Margaret Janz.

The COVID-19 pandemic that hit the United States in March 2020 quickly caused the entire nation to rethink how we work and how we approach education. Informal environmental education in particular faced unique challenges during this time yet found ways to adapt their educational programming. This thesis will explore the questions: How did organizations alter and adapt their programming to meet public health guidelines during the pandemic? and What successes and challenges did organizations face in offering these programs? To answer these questions, a survey was distributed to organizations that offer environmental education programs. Results echo and expand on the existing literature on pandemic education. Organizations offered many virtual programs both synchronously and asynchronously and also found new ways to offer in person events. Programs that involved some interaction with other people and those that took place in person or outdoors were most successful, while asynchronous virtual materials were considered less so. Organizations faced many challenges in offering programming including financial barriers, technology troubles, and difficulty staying current on public health recommendations. Despite the difficulties and learning losses, respondents felt there may have been some benefits to the changes in their programming and many will continue to offer their adapted programs in the future.
