<h1>Dataset Description</h1> <p>Global Extra-tropical Circulation Database based on the Jenkinson-Collison Classification calculated with 6-hourly mean sea-level pressure fields from several reanalysis datasets. This dataset is the result of an extension of the Jenkinson-Collison circulation type classification to the entire globe, including a modification of its original formulation for the southern hemisphere.</p> <p>A modified version of the IPCC-AR6 Reference Regions that excludes the intertropical range where the method is not applicable is also included, as used in the reference paper for global assessment.</p> <p>Further details in <a href="https://doi.org/10.1007/s00382-022-06658-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://doi.org/10.1007/s00382-022-06658-7&nbsp;</a></p> <h2>Note for version 1.1.0</h2> <p>This version corrects an issue in the previous release, which was incorrectly labeled as <em>version 0.1</em>. That version was incomplete due to the omission of previously existing files, and should be considered <strong>incomplete</strong>. Version 1.1.0 restores all original files alongside the newly added one, ensuring the dataset is now complete and consistent. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding.</p>

Extra-tropical cyclone statistics from OpenIFS aquaplanet simulations

<p>This data set is derived from three idealised modelling experiments that were performed with the global numerical weather prediction model, OpenIFS. Three aqua-planet experiments were performed that differed only in their sea surface temperatures. There was a control simulation, case where the sea surface temperatures were warmed everywhere by 4K and a case where the polar sea surface temperatures were increased by 5K. In all three experiments, the extra-tropical cyclones were identified. The data presented in this data set is the maximum vorticity and precipitation of all of these extra-tropical cyclones. This data set is used by Sinclair and Catto (2023) in their study.</p> <p>Sinclair, V. A. and Catto, J. <p>Data available form the simulation conducted with ICON.</p> <p>The data include the different terms of the energy budget from all the different simulations presented in the paper.</p> <p>ARC is the atmospheric radiative cooling, l is the precipitation, Qsh is the&nbsp;sensiblel heat flux and R is&nbsp;the residual (or the divergent term).</p> <p>ref is for the reference simulation while the rest of the files denote the location of the plume, its size (in degree) and the SSA. for example:</p> <p>p_40N_25_9_5.nc</p> <p>continue the precipitation for the simulation with a plume located at 40N, the size of the plume is 25 degrees and the SSA=9.5.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The 3D varblees of temperature and winds are given is the files :</p> <p>monmean_atm_trop_2_4aod_10deg_8ssa_3D_atm_3d_ml.nc</p> <p>and:</p> <p>monmean_atm_40N_2_4aod_10deg_8ssa_3D_atm_3d_ml.nc</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>for two different simulations with the same plume size and SSA but different plume locations (this data is used in Figs. 3 and 4 in the paper).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
