Species-level estimated abundances and zero counts of nighttime collected female mosquitoes 2014 - 2022 (Derived from NEON Mosquitoes sampled from CO2 traps (DP1.10043.001, RELEASE-2024))

This Level 2 data package contains species level estimated abundances, including zero counts, and estimated mean number of female mosquitoes per trap derived from the NEON Mosquitoes sampled from CO2 traps (DP1.10043.001), RELEASE-2024 Level 0 data (https://doi.org/10.48443/3cyq-6v47). The data set includes mosquito records of traps collecting mosquito samples at night, for up to 24 trap hours, across a total of 20 terrestrial core and 27 terrestrial gradient sites from 2014 to 2022. To ensure high confidence in abundance estimates, records were only included when at least 90% of collected individuals were identified to sex, and 90% of female specimens were identified to species. Information across multiple QC/QA fields within the NEON mosquito data was evaluated to identify and exclude records where confidence in estimated abundances may have been compromised. Species level zero counts were added for all species collected at least once within the sampling year and trap location. Additionally, species level zero counts were included for trap events where only male mosquitoes had been collected or where QC/QA remarks indicated traps were inactive due to cold temperatures. The data set provides an analysis ready time series of estimated abundances across NEON sites and plots. An R Markdown file that contains descriptions of the QC/QA and data filtering steps along with annotated code, as well as data tables used to filter active and inactive trap events based on QC/QA fields, are published with the data package. Player Experience in Video Game Character Analysis: A Study of Female Characters

<h3><span>Overview</span></h3> <p><span>This dataset is part of the study titled "Player Experience in Video Game Character Analysis: A Study of Female Characters", conducted at </span>Map&uacute;a University. The research aims to integrate player experience into an existing framework for video game character analysis.&nbsp;</p> <h3><span>Content</span></h3> <p><span>The dataset includes:</span></p> <ul> <li><span>A partial transcript of 5 semi-structured interviews with the key informants. Originally, 8 interviews were conducted, but the audio/video recordings for 3 interviews were lost and thus their transcripts are not available.</span></li> <li><span>Significant codes presented in tabulated form.</span></li> </ul> <h3><span>Data Collection Method</span></h3> <p><span>Data were collected through in-depth interviews conducted via Facebook Messenger and Discord from March to April 2024. Participants were various video game players from different backgrounds and age groups, ranging from 20 to 40 years old. Due to technical issues, the recordings of 3 interviews were lost, resulting in only 5 available transcripts.&nbsp;</span></p> <h3><span>Data Processing and Analysis</span></h3> <p><span>The 5 available interviews were transcribed verbatim. Placebo nasal spray protects female participants from experimentally induced sadness and concomitant changes in autonomic arousal (Open Data and Open Materials)

<p><strong>Open Data and Open Materials of: Placebo nasal spray protects female participants from experimentally induced sadness and concomitant changes in autonomic arousal. <em>Journal of Affective Disorders</em>. </strong></p> <p><em>Background:</em> To investigate the powerful placebo effects in antidepressant drug trials and their mechanisms, recent pioneering experimental studies showed that expectation manipulation combined with an active placebo attenuated induced sadness. In the present study, we aimed at extending these findings by assessing the psychophysiological response in addition to mere self-report.</p> <p><em>Methods:</em> One hundred thirteen healthy female students were randomly assigned to a drug expectation group (active placebo, positive treatment expectation), placebo expectation group (active placebo, no treatment expectation), or a no-treatment group (no placebo, no treatment expectation). After placebo intake, sadness was induced by self-deprecating statements using the Velten method combined with sad music, including a rumination phase. Sadness was measured using the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule Expanded Form (PANAS-X). Heart rate and skin conductance were assessed continuously.</p> <p><em>Results:</em> After mood induction and after rumination, self-reported sadness was significantly lower, and skin conductance level was significantly higher, in the drug expectation group than in the no-treatment group. The mood induction was further accompanied by a heart rate deceleration within all groups.</p> <p><em>Limitations: </em>Generalizability is limited by sample selectivity and focusing on sadness as a symptom of depression, exclusively.</p> <p><em>Conclusion:</em> Expectation-induced placebo effects significantly influenced sadness-correlated changes in autonomic arousal, and not only subjectively reported sadness, indicating that placebo effects in the context of affect are not merely due to subjective response bias. The systematic modification of treatment expectation could be utilized in clinical practice to optimize current therapeutic approaches to improve mood regulation.</p>

With or without you: Gut microbiota does not predict aggregation behaviour in females of the European earwig

<p>Recent studies suggest that the gut microbiota could be one of the main driving forces behind the evolution of group living. However, these studies are mainly based on our knowledge of species in which non-social individuals are rare and abnormal, calling&nbsp;into question the adaptive value of the reported&nbsp;association between group-living and gut microbiota.&nbsp;In this study, we addressed this issue by testing this association in females of the European earwig, an insect showing frequent,&nbsp;naturaland&nbsp;wide&nbsp;inter-individual variation in the expression of group living. We video-tracked 320 field-sampled females to quantify their natural variation in aggregation and then tested whether the most and least gregarious females had different gut microbiota. We also compared the general activity, boldness, body size and body condition of these females and examined the association between each of these traits and the gut microbiota. Contrary to our predictions, we found no&nbsp;difference in&nbsp;gut microbiota between the most and least gregarious females,&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;no difference&nbsp;between these females&nbsp;in terms of general activity, boldness, body size and condition.&nbsp;We did show&nbsp;that&nbsp;the&nbsp;gut microbiota&nbsp;of females&nbsp;was&nbsp;overall&nbsp;linked to their body condition, even though it was also unrelated to the other measurements. Overall, these results demonstrate that a host&#39;s gut microbiota is not necessarily a major driver of aggregation&nbsp;behaviour&nbsp;in species with inter-individual variation in group living and call for future studies to investigate the determinants and role of gut microbiota in earwigs.</p>

The &quot;Sleeping Female Figure&quot; was created by Yannoulis Chalepas in marble for the grave of eighteen-year-old Sofia Afentaki in the 1st Cemetery of Athens. The 3D model is encoded as a mesh of 1831256 textured triangular faces and 3660969 vertices, stored in the Wavefront Technologies OBJ format. The texture is encoded in four 8192 x 8192 pixel<sup>2</sup> images. Raw male and female fitness data

<p>Raw male and female fitness data for 223 hemiclonal genotypes sampled from the LH<sub>M</sub> laboratory adapted population. See Gilks et al (2017; https://f1000research.com/articles/5-2644/v3) for full details on how these lines were established. Assays were designed to measure total adult lifetime fitness for both males and females from each line, under conditions that match as close as possible those experienced by adults in the base population (Chippindale <em>et al.</em>, 2001; Rice, 2005; Rice <em>et al.</em>, 2006).</p> <p><em>Male fitness assay</em><br> 5 hemiclonal males per line were combined in adult competition vials with 10 competitor <em>bw</em><sup>-</sup> males and 15 virgin <em>bw</em><sup>-</sup> females. After 2 days, each <em>bw</em><sup>- </sup>female was isolated into individual oviposition test-tubes (containing the cornmeal-molasses-agar media but with no additional dried yeast) and left to oviposit for 18 hours. On Day 12, progeny were scored for eye-colour, in two observation rounds to allow ensure that as many eclosing offspring were included. Hemiclonal males were assigned paternity to progeny with wild-type red eyes (progeny of competitors are homozygous for the <em>bw</em><sup>-</sup> allele and therefore have brown eyes), giving an average fitness score (number of offspring sired) for the 5 hemiclonal males that were assayed per line. This assay was independently replicated 5 times, representing data from a total of 25 hemiclonal males per line. Male fitness was calculated as the proportion of offspring sired per assayed male, which accounts for instances where less than 5 hemiclonal males were included (6 out of 1105 assays).</p> <p><em>Female fitness assays</em><br> Assays of female fitness followed a similar protocol to the male assays, again to match as close as possible the timing and conditions experienced by individuals in the base population. In this case, 5 virgin hemiclonal females were combined in adult competition vials with 10 competitor <em>bw</em><sup>- </sup>females and 15 <em>bw</em><sup>- </sup>males for 2 days. After 2 days, the 5 hemiclonal females were isolated into individual test-tubes and left to oviposit for 18hrs. The tubes were immediately chilled (4°C) to halt embryo development and the number of eggs per female was counted to provide a measure of fecundity. Data was excluded for tubes in which the female was either dead or not present. Since unmated females are known to produce eggs at a low rate, we also excluded data from females where egg counts were 0 or 1 as these are likely to represent output from unmated females (see Supplementary figure 1). By averaging fecundity across all 5 females this provided an average female fitness score for that line. Schistosoma mansoni ATAC-seq results for IGV (female and male worms with and without LSD1 inhibitor)

<p>In this study, the anti-schistosomal activity of 39&nbsp;<em>Homo sapiens</em>&nbsp;Lysine Specific Demethylase 1 (HsLSD1) inhibitors was investigated on parasitic life cycle stages associated with both definitive and intermediate host infection. Amongst this collection of small molecules, compound&nbsp;<strong>33</strong>&nbsp;was the most potent and reduced&nbsp;<em>ex vivo</em>&nbsp;viabilities of schistosomula, juveniles, miracidia and adults. At its sub-lethal concentration to adults (3.13 &micro;M), compound&nbsp;<strong>33&nbsp;</strong>also significantly impacted oviposition, ovarian as well as vitellarian architecture and gonadal/neoblast stem cell proliferation. ATAC-seq analysis of adults demonstrated that compound&nbsp;<strong>33</strong>&nbsp;significantly affected chromatin structure (intragenic regions &gt; intergenic regions), especially in genes differentially expressed in cell populations (e.g., germinal stem cells, hes2<em><sup>+</sup></em>stem cell progeny, S1 cells and late female germinal cells) linked to these&nbsp;<em>ex vivo</em>&nbsp;phenotypes.</p> <p>The data presented here allow for visualisation in IGV&nbsp;https://igv.org/app/</p> <p>Produced in collaboration with IHPE.&nbsp;</p>

Dyadic encounter unfamiliar female pairs over 2 days – 16p11.2 Del mouse strain – WT-WT - 5220_5175

<p>We evaluated the social interactions and communication between unfamiliar individuals in pairs. For these recordings of social behaviour and ultrasonic communication, we focused on pairs of individuals since we currently cannot identify the emitter of USVs when animals were interacting closely. Therefore, we recorded undisturbed dyadic interactions between two unfamiliar individuals (from two different housing cages) of the same age (14-20 weeks of age) and genotype for 47h (two days and nights). Dyadic encounter unfamiliar female pairs over 2 days – 16p11.2 Del mouse strain – Del:+-Del/+ - 5194_5231

<p>We evaluated the social interactions and communication between unfamiliar individuals in pairs. For these recordings of social behaviour and ultrasonic communication, we focused on pairs of individuals since we currently cannot identify the emitter of USVs when animals were interacting closely. Therefore, we recorded undisturbed dyadic interactions between two unfamiliar individuals (from two different housing cages) of the same age (14-20 weeks of age) and genotype for 47h (two days and nights).
