Data from: Magnetoliposomes containing magnesium ferrite nanoparticles as nanocarriers for the model drug curcumin
Magnesium ferrite nanoparticles, with diameters around 25 nm, were synthesized by coprecipitation method. The magnetic properties indicate a superparamagnetic behavior, with a maximum magnetization of 16.2 emu/g, a coercive field of 22.1 Oe and a blocking temperature of 183.2 K. These MgFe2O4 nanoparticles were used to produce aqueous and solid magnetoliposomes, with sizes below 130 nm. The potential drug curcumin was successfully incorporated in these nanosystems, with high encapsulation efficiencies (above 89%). Interaction by fusion between both types of drug loaded magnetoliposomes (with or without PEGylation) and models of biological membranes was demonstrated, using FRET or fluorescence quenching assays. These results point to future applications of magnetoliposomes containing MgFe2O4 nanoparticles in cancer therapy, allowing combined magnetic hyperthermia and chemotherapy.

Dynamical simulation of EBSD master pattern of ferrite
<p>Dynamical simulation of an electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) master pattern of ferrite (<em>Fd<span class="math-tex">\(\bar{3}\)</span>m</em>, <em>a</em> = 2.8665 Å). The master pattern was simulated with EMsoft v5.0. The HDF5 file includes master patterns of the upper and lower hemispheres, in both the stereographic projection and the square Lambert projection, of accelerating voltages from 5 to 20 kV with an increment of 1 kV.</p> <p>The HDF5 file can be opened with any HDF5 reader, e.g. the applications HDFView and HDFCompass or the Python library h5py. The file can also be read and plotted with the Python library kikuchipy (https://kikuchipy.org). Assuming Python and the library is installed, the stereographic projection of the master pattern with all energies can be read and plotted with the following commands:</p> <pre><code class="language-python">import kikuchipy as kp s = kp.load("/path/to/ferrite_mc_mp_20kv.h5") s.plot()</code></pre> <p>The PNG file shows the stereographic projection of the upper hemisphere of the master pattern from 20 kV. The remaining files are input and output files to the EMsoft programs EMmkxtal (output: ferrite.xtal), EMMCOpenCL (input: ferrite.xtal, mcopencl.nml; output: ferrite_mc_mp_20kv.h5) and EMEBSDmaster (input: BetheParameters.nml, ebsdmaster.nml, ferrite_mc_mp_20kv.h5; output: added to existing ferrite_mc_mp_20kv.h5).</p>

High-throughput investigation of ferrite growth kinetics in graded ternary Fe-C-X alloys
<p>The composition dependence of ferrite growth kinetics in Fe-C-X ternary alloyed steels, where X = Ni, Mn, Mo, Cr, Si, was investigated using a high-throughput approach. Compositionally graded samples were subjected to in situ time- and space-resolved X-ray diffraction during intercritical annealing. To this end, diffusion couples were created between a binary Fe-C and different Fe-C-X alloys, using hot uniaxial compression and high temperature diffusion treatments. In-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction experiments were performed to collect ferrite growth kinetics along the composition gradient of the diffusion couples. A large dataset describing the austenite-to-ferrite phase transformation kinetics was generated using a very limited number of experiments. This dataset of unprecedented size was compared to the kinetics predicted by the classical local-equilibrium (LE) and para-equilibrium (PE) models as well as a modified version of the three-jump solute drag (SD) model, which accounts for the different interactions between the elements present at the austenite/ferrite interface. The comparison showed that both LE and PE models fail to capture the effect of both composition and temperature on the kinetics of ferrite growth for the different Fe-C-X systems. The SD model calculations matched experimental transformation kinetics at all investigated temperatures and over almost all the investigated composition ranges of Si, Cr, Mn, Ni, and Mo.</p>
Ferriter's Castle: Kerry 2021
Ferriter's Castle and Promontory Fort is located on the Ballyferriter Headland, Dingle Peninsula, Co Kerry. Doon Point / Dún an Fheirtéaraigh is a long, narrow promontory extending slightly over 500 m SW from the mainland. This prehistoric fort is one of 95 coastal promontory forts in County Kerry, with a Mesolithic-Neolithic site at the nearby Ferriter's Cove. There are a number of hut sites and archaeological features visible within the boundaries of the fort, many heavily impacted by erosion. Reuse of the fort occured by the 16th Century when the Anglo-Norman Feriter family constructed a castle. The site was surveyed during the CHERISH excavation which included a trenches across the ditches of the older promontory fort and a hut site near the southwest tip of the promontory. Ferriter's Castle and surrounding area were surveyed in May 2021 using an eBee plus and S.O.D.A. camera with a ground sampling distance of 2.5 cm.
