Data from: Exploring rainforest diversification using demographic model testing in the African foam-nest treefrog (Chiromantis rufescens)

Aim: Species with wide distributions spanning the African Guinean and Congolian rainforests are often composed of genetically distinct populations or cryptic species with geographic distributions that mirror the locations of the remaining forest habitats. We used phylogeographic inference and demographic model testing to evaluate diversification models in a widespread rainforest species, the African Foam-nest Treefrog (Chiromantis rufescens). Location: Guinean and Congolian rainforests, West and Central Africa. Taxon: Chiromantis rufescens. Methods: We collected mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data for 130 samples of Chiromantis rufescens. After estimating population structure and inferring species trees using coalescent methods, we tested demographic models to evaluate alternative population divergence histories that varied with respect to gene flow, population size change, and periods of isolation and secondary contact. Species distribution models were used to identify regions of climatic stability that could have served as forest refugia since the Last Interglacial. Results: Population structure within Chiromantis rufescens resembles the major biogeographic regions of the Guinean and Congolian forests. Coalescent-based phylogenetic analyses provide strong support for an early divergence between the western Upper Guinean forest and the remaining populations. Demographic inferences support diversification models with gene flow and population size changes even in cases where contemporary populations are currently allopatric, which provides support for forest refugia and barrier models. Species distribution models suggest that forest refugia were available for each of the populations throughout the Pleistocene. Main conclusions: Considering historical demography is essential for understanding population diversification, especially in complex landscapes such as those found in the Guineo-Congolian forest. Population demographic inferences help connect patterns of genetic variation to diversification model predictions. The diversification history of Chiromantis rufescens was shaped by a variety of processes, including vicariance from river barriers, forest fragmentation, and adaptive evolution along environmental gradients.

PostConsumer r-PET Trials from Bottle&Tray Mix for Foam Board Production

<p>For Armacell, the challenges related to recycling PET tray material are the low intrinsic viscosity (IV), the frequent use of multilayer sheets in packaging trays and other contaminations coming from the mixed plastic household waste collection.</p> <p>To achieve the correct mechanical properties for the PET foam boards, it is essential to limit raw material variations and to master material melt viscosity and pressure in the extruder. With a combination of adapted processing parameters, as well as new melt modifier formulation, it is possible to produce foam boards from tray-PET that have a comparable quality to foam boards produced from bottle PET.</p> <p>Attached, different properties and results from the tested postconsumer material and the foam board produced are presented sown to the H2020 PlastiCircle Project.</p>

<p>These files contain the output of Phanerozoic global climate simulations conducted using the &ldquo;slab&rdquo; mixed-layer ocean-atmosphere general circulation model FOAM. They are available every 20 Myrs between 540 Ma and 0 Ma, both included. Boundary conditions were adapted to best match each time slice. Continental reconstructions were taken from Scotese and Wright (https://www.earthbyte.org/paleodem-resource-scotese-and-wright-2018/). Solar luminosity followed Gough et al. (doi:10.1007/BF00151270). Continental vegetation was set to Modern-like latitudinal bands between 0 Ma and 100 Ma (included), tropical evergreen, broad-leaved forest between 120 Ma and 360 Ma (included), tundra between 380 Ma and 440 Ma (included) and rocky desert afterwards. The orbital configuration was set to null eccentricity and minimum obliquity.&nbsp;</p> <p>The reader is referred to the associated paper for a full description of the model and boundary conditions.</p> <p>All model output file names use the following pattern: &laquo;&nbsp;[age]ebP2_solCgough1981_EccN_pCO2FosterKr_[model_component] _slab.nc&quot;, with [age], the age expressed in million years ago, and [model_component] being &#39;atmos&#39; or &#39;coupl&#39; (atmospheric component or coupler). Data for the paper: The Role of Glycerol in Manufacturing Freeze-Dried Chitosan and Cellulose Foams for Mechanically Stable Scaffolds in Skin Tissue Engineering

<p>The Dataset contains all the data, described in the article "<strong>The Role of Glycerol in Manufacturing Freeze-Dried Chitosan&nbsp;</strong><br><strong>and Cellulose Foams for Mechanically Stable Scaffolds in Skin Tissue Engineering</strong>."</p> <p><strong><em>Abstract</em></strong><br>Various strategies have extensively explored enhancing the physical and biological properties of&nbsp;chitosan and cellulose scaffolds for skin tissue engineering. This study presents a straightforward&nbsp;method involving the addition of glycerol into highly porous structures of two polysaccharide&nbsp;complexes: chitosan/carboxymethyl cellulose (Chit/CMC) and chitosan/oxidized cellulose (Chit/OC);&nbsp;during a one-step freeze-drying process. Adding glycerol, especially to Chit/CMC, significantly&nbsp;increased stability, prevented degradation, and improved mechanical strength by nearly 50%.&nbsp;Importantly, after 21 days of incubation in enzymatic medium Chit/CMC scaffold has almost completely&nbsp;decomposed, while foams reinforced with glycerol exhibited only 40% mass loss. It is possible due to&nbsp;differences in multivalent cations and polymer chain contraction, resulting in varied hydrogen bonding&nbsp;<br>and, consequently, distinct physicochemical outcomes. Additionally, the scaffolds with glycerol&nbsp;improved the cellular activities resulting in over 40% higher proliferation of fibroblast after 21 days of incubation. It was achieved by imparting water resistance to the highly absorbent material and aiding in achieving a balance between hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties. This study clearly indicates the&nbsp;possible elimination of additional crosslinkers and multiple fabrication steps that can reduce the cost of scaffold production for skin tissue engineering applications while tailoring mechanical strength and degradation.</p> <p><strong>Figure 2.</strong> Morphology.
