HD-SIM-RBV: a synthetic dataset with model-based simulations of blood volume changes during hemodialysis
<p>The HD-SIM-RBV dataset is a synthetic (model-based) dataset generated to enable the study of blood volume (BV) or relative blood volume (RBV) changes during hemodialysis (HD).</p> <p>The dataset includes the profiles of BV changes during a standard 4-hour HD session simulated using a lumped-parameter, physiologically-based model of the cardiovascular system and the whole-body water and solute kinetics in 5,000 virtual patients with randomly adjusted values of 90 physiological parameters.</p> <p>For each of the 90 selected parameters, a random value was drawn from a normal distribution with the mean equal to the baseline value used originally in the model (with a few exceptions) and the standard deviation (SD) assumed at the level of 10%, 20%, or 40% of the baseline value, depending on the nature of the given parameter and the likelihood of its variation in the population (for some parameters, SD was set below 10% - see Parameters.xlsx). Only values within ±2SD from the mean were accepted. </p> <p>Ultrafiltration was set randomly within ±1 L from the assigned fluid overload. All other parameters as well as dialysis settings were kept constant for all virtual patients (at the levels used in our previous work - see the references below).</p> <p> </p> <p>When using the dataset, please cite the associated conference paper:</p> <p>Pstras L, Waniewski J. Data from: Characterization of gut microbiota composition in hemodialysis patients with normal weight obesity
<p><b>Background:</b> Normal weight obesity (NWO), defined by a normal body mass index (BMI) but increased body fat percentage (BF%), is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. NWO is characterized by inflammation and muscle wasting in chronic kidney disease (CKD), but the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Gut microbiota has been implicated in the regulation of host metabolism and may play important roles in the development of NWO in CKD.</p> <p><b>Methods:</b> In this case-control study, we examined the gut microbial diversity and taxonomy in 96 hemodialysis patients with normal weight (BMI <25 kg/m<sup>2</sup> and BF% ≤25% for men or ≤35% for women, n = 32), NWO (BMI <25 kg/m<sup>2</sup> and BF% >25% for men or >35% for women, n = 32), and overweight/obesity (BMI ≥25 kg/m<sup>2</sup>, n = 32), matched for age, gender, and diabetes. BF% was measured using bioimpedance spectroscopy device. Gut microbiota was determined by 16S rRNA sequencing.</p> <p><b>Results:</b> We found that α-diversity was significantly different among the 3 adiposity phenotypes, with NWO being the least diverse. α-diversity was positively correlated with BMI, subjective global assessment score, and physical activity, but negatively correlated with interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α. Patients with or without NWO were distinguished with respect to principal coordinate analysis of β-diversity. Notably, the relative abundance of butyrate-producing bacteria, such as <i>Faecalibacterium </i><i>prausnitzii</i> and<i> Coprococcus</i>, was markedly reduced in patients with NWO.</p> <p><b>Conclusion:</b> Our findings support associations between gut dysbiosis and a proinflammatory and catabolic state in hemodialysis patients with NWO.</p>
Safety of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination in patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis
<p>This dataset was the minimal dataset of the research article entitle 'Safety of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination in patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis'. The study aims to investigate the localized and systemic adverse effects (AEs) within 30-days after the first dose of ChAdOx1 nCoV19 (Oxford-AstraZeneca) vaccination in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients receiving hemodialysis (HD). The first dataset is the raw data for logistic regression analyses examining the risk factors in association with AEs, another dataset contains the second- and the seventh- day incidences of various AEs depicted in bar graphs. It comprises variables recording the status of patient-reported local and systemic AEs in questionnaire on the second and seventh days after vaccination as well as patients' baseline demographic and clinical characteristics.</p>
Pulse waveform and stroke volume/cardiac output measurements in healthy and hemodialysis patients
<p>Pulse wave measurements made with the SphygmoCor device (SphygmoCor, AtCor Medical, Australia) and stroke volume measurements made with the PhysioFlow device.
