Coptic Monastic Heritage Archive (CMHA): Photographic Dataset of Monastic Settlement in Wadi Naqqat, Egypt

<p>This dataset was created as part of the Coptic Monastic Heritage Archive (CMHA) at the University of Ljubljana. It includes data and photographs of 14 monastic heritage sites in Wadi Naqqat (Eastern Desert, Egypt). Wadi Naqqat is located approximately 35 miles (55 km) west of the Red Sea town of Hurghada, in the broader region of ancient Mons Porphyrites, and dates to between the 4th and 6th centuries AD.</p> <p>The data was gathered through ground assessments conducted between 2018 and 2019 as part of the project &ldquo;Endangered Hermitages: Documenting Coptic Monastic Heritage in Middle Egypt and the Eastern Desert&rdquo;, led by Dr. Jan Ciglenečki (University of Ljubljana) and funded by the Antiquities Endowment Fund (AEF) of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). Photographic documentation of the site was carried out by photographer Matjaž Kačičnik, using a 36-megapixel Nikon D810 digital camera, and by Dr. Jan Ciglenečki, using a 21-megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital camera. In 2024, this documentation was systematically integrated into the CMHA at the University of Ljubljana.</p> <p><span>The photographs include EXIF (GPS location, technical specs) and IPTC-IIM (e.g., Credits, Caption) and XMP metadata.</span></p>

Participatory activities good practices in the field of cultural heritage (REACH project)

<p>The REACH repository of good practices comprises over a hundred and twenty records of European and extra European participatory activities in the&nbsp;field of cultural heritage, with an emphasis on small-scale, localised&nbsp;examples, but including also larger collaborative&nbsp;projects and global or distributed online initiatives. Located&nbsp;in over twenty&nbsp;different countries, the activities showcased here cover a wide&nbsp;variety of topics and themes, from urban, rural and institutional&nbsp;heritage to indigenous and minority heritage; from preservation, and&nbsp;management to use and re-use of cultural heritage. This easy-to-use&nbsp;collection of good practices offers&nbsp;professionals, practitioners, researchers and&nbsp;citizens useful information about activities which could be&nbsp;transferred, adapted or replicated in new contexts.</p>

Sistan: part 1. Heritage Places

<h3>Deposit of Heritage Places from the Sistan region (Iran, Afghanistan) maintained within the EAMENA database.</h3> <p>This dataset is an exported subset of the Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA) database. It includes archaeological and cultural heritage places, such as ancient settlements, historical structures, traditional villages, and irrigation systemswithin the central areas of the historical landscape of Sistan (سیستان), located in eastern Iran and southwestern Afghanistan. The data was gathered by the visual inspection of 16,875 km2 of open-access satellite imagery accessible on Google Earth covering the period from 2001 to 2022, utilising the EAMENA methodology for archaeological and condition assessment. It is stored in the EAMENA web-based open-access database, hosted by the University of Oxford. The primary objective of compiling this dataset is to evaluate the impact of recent climate and environmental changes, as well as other disturbance factors, such as agriculture, building and development, and infrastructure, on the cultural heritage places of this historical region.</p> <p>---</p> <p>The two repositories (Heritage Places and <a href="../records/10376132">Grid Squares</a>) both pertain to Part 1 of the Sistan survey. This dataset primarily focuses on the central areas of Sistan, but it can be expanded through future surveys to include the eastern parts of Sistan in Afghanistan and additional undocumented areas in Iran.</p>

Sutra to DNA : An interdisciplinary approach to cultural heritage preservation

<p>Materials pertaining to the project Sutra2DNA. We have chosen the Diamond Sūtra as the first Buddhist text to be encoded in&nbsp;DNA. The DNA is encased in metal capsule, which in turn are housed in specially designed, 3D printed miniature stūpas.</p> <p>A QR code with the DOI of&nbsp;this archive will be printed on the miniature stūpas. Audio proceedings from CONFLICT: Collections, Archives and Heritage symposium

<p>The&nbsp;<em>CONFLICT: Archives, Collections and Heritage</em>&nbsp;workshop (in-person and online) explores the topic of cultural heritage, archives and museum collections in conflict and post-conflict times. Starting with Cambodia&rsquo;s art history and archaeology, discussions will expand to a global perspective. It is organised by Magali An Berthon from the Center for Textile Research at the University of Copenhagen on 25 March 2024, in conjunction with the exhibition &ldquo;The Art of Ikat: A Cambodian Renaissance&rdquo; which opens on 22 February 2024, at the Royal University Library, University of Copenhagen South Campus. Linda Sok and Sophea Oum, two of the artists featured in the exhibition, will be in attendance.</p> <p>How does conflict affect the recovery, preservation and conservation of museum collections and archives? Does it also affect the meaning and significance of such collections, whether they survived or were lost? Facing disappearance and destruction how do artists and artisans offer invaluable responses toward restoration and healing? These are some of the key questions animating this day of discussion centred on innovative research approaches.</p> <p>This event was supported by the Carlsberg Foundation and the David Fond og Samling.</p>

The Software Heritage Graph Dataset

<p>Software Heritage is the largest existing public archive of software source<br> code and accompanying development history: it currently spans more than five<br> billion unique source code files and one billion unique commits, coming from<br> more than 80 million software projects.</p> <p>This is the Software Heritage graph dataset: a fully-deduplicated<br> Merkle DAG representation of the Software Heritage archive. The dataset links<br> together file content identifiers, source code directories, Version Control<br> System (VCS) commits tracking evolution over time, up to the full states of VCS<br> repositories as observed by Software Heritage during periodic crawls. X-ray Fluorescence Mapping dataset for use in Heritage Science

<p>The following data sets were collected to support the potential uses of opensource data in the context of digital humanities and heritage sciences. &nbsp;</p> <p>This proposed experiment is conducted by the UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Humanities. Imaging methods including Photography, Multispectral Imaging, Hyperspectral Imaging and Xray Fluorescence Mapping have been collected along with the complete readout metadata of the instrumentation. &nbsp;</p> <p>We hope that you find the data helpful, and we welcome you to use the data in any way you wish, for all and any analysis development purposes.
