Nonlinear self calibrated spectrometer with single GeSe-InSe heterojunction device

<p>Computational spectrometry is an emerging field that employs photodetection in conjunction with numerical algorithms for spectroscopic measurements. Compact single photodetectors made from layered materials are particularly attractive since they eliminate the need for bulky mechanical and optical components used in traditional spectrometers and can easily be engineered as heterostructures to optimize device performance. However, such photodetectors are typically nonlinear devices, which adds complexity to extracting optical spectra from their response. Here, we train an artificial neural network (ANN) to recover the full nonlinear spectral photoresponse of a single GeSe-InSe p-n heterojunction device. The device has a spectral range of 400-1100 nm, a small footprint of ~25×25 〖μm〗^2, and a mean reconstruction error of 〖2×10〗^(-4) for the power spectrum at 0.35 nm. Using our device, we demonstrate a solution to metamerism, an apparent matching of colors with different power spectral distributions, which is a fundamental problem in optical imaging.</p>

Photoelectrochemical performance of BiOI/TiO2 Nanotube Arrays (TNAs) p-n heterojunction synthesized by SILAR-ultrasonication-assisted methods

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>In order to extend the visible region activity of titania nanotube array (TNAs) films, the Successive Ionic Layer Adsorption and Reaction (SILAR)-ultrasonication-assisted method has been used to prepare BiOI-modified TiO2 nanotube arrays (BiOI/TNAs). The band gap of BiOI/TNAs for all the variations reveals absorption in the visible absorption. The surface morphology of BiOI/TNAs is shown in the nanoplate, nanoflake, and nanosheet forms with a vertical orientation perpendicular to TiO2. The crystalline structure of BiOI did not change the structure of the anatase TNAs, with the band gap energy of the BiOI/TNAs semiconductor in the visible region. The photocurrent density of the BiOI/TNAs extends to the visible-light range. BiOI/TNAs with 1 mM Bi and 1 mM KI on TNAs 40 V 1 h 50 V 30 min shows the optimum photocurrent density. A tandem dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC)-photoelectrochemical (PEC) was used for hydrogen production in salty water. BiOI/TNAs optimum was used as the photoanode of the PEC cell. Solar to hydrogen conversion efficiency (STH) of tandem DSSC-PEC reaches 1.34% in salty water.</span></p>

Data from: The fabrication of the heterojunction catalyst BiVO4/P25 and its visible-light photocatalytic activities

A heterojunction catalyst BiVO4/P25 was successfully fabricated using a one-step hydrothermal method. The BiVO4/P25 samples exhibited better photocatalytic activities and absorption performances when compared with the pure BiVO4. The degradation rate of the methyl blue (MB) solution (5 mg/L) reached up to 85% in sixty minutes under visible-light illumination (λ &gt; 420 nm). The nanocomposites were characterized using XPS, Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR, UV–visual diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, SEM and HR-TEM. A high-powered scanning electron microscope showed a polyhedron shape and a flower-like shape. The BiVO4/P25 nanocomposite was found to have a rougher surface, as well as a larger surface area, when compared with the pure BiVO4. This resulted in an improved photocatalytic activity, along with super absorption to a large extent.

Dataset for Silicon Heterojunction Solar Cells: Excellent Candidate for Low Light Illuminations

<p>The current solar cells and modules are marketed according to the behaviour at standard test conditions (STC), however, these devices are more often operated at lower irradiance levels. The dependence on illumination stems mainly from the voltage at the open circuit and at the maximum power point. The latter might also be strongly influenced by serial resistance, but that is more an engineering problem not addressed here. More fundamentally, the voltage is determined by quasi-Fermi levels at the contacts. In the case of unconstrained conductivity between the absorber and electrode, the quasi-Fermi levels are flat, and determined by their splitting in the absorber. Our analysis shows that the modulation doping mechanism working in Si heterojunction solar cell between the doped amorphous Si layer with a higher bandgap and crystalline absorber with a lower bandgap can, for certain parameter settings, lead to strongly depleted contact layer that limits conduction. This is a prerequisite for decoupling the quasi-Fermi level between contact and absorber and offers the possibility for additional voltage increase. Based on this understanding, we simulate a heterojunction solar cell with a varying thickness and doping of amorphous silicon p-type contact. We demonstrate that for a certain combination of thinner or lower-doped contact, higher efficiency at low illumination can be achieved compared to the technological baseline. This is fully in line with the experimental findings. This analysis is crucial not only for using solar cells for indoor applications but also for designing photovoltaic modules optimized for low irradiance, potentially increasing the level of self-sufficiency of buildings.&nbsp;</p>

Data from: Enhancing the efficiency of planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells via interfacial engineering with 3-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane hydrolysate

The interfacial compatibility between compact TiO2 and perovskite layers is critical for the performance of planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells (PSCs). A compact TiO2 film employed as an electron-transport layer (ETL) was modified using 3-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane (APMS) hydrolysate. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs composed of an APMS-hydrolysate-modified TiO2 layer increased from 13.45 to 15.79%, which was associated with a significant enhancement in the fill factor (FF) from 62.23 to 68.04%. The results indicate that APMS hydrolysate can enhance the wettability of γ-butyrolactone (GBL) on the TiO2 surface, form a perfect CH3NH3PbI3 film, and increase the recombination resistance at the interface. This work demonstrates a simple but efficient method to improve the TiO2/perovskite interface that can be greatly beneficial for developing high-performance PSCs.
