All-Inkjet-Printed Humidity Sensors for the Detection of Relative Humidity in Air and Soil—Towards the Direct Fabrication on Plant Leaves

We demonstrate the fabrication, by exclusive means of inkjet-printing, of capacitive relative humidity sensors on flexible, plastic substrate. These sensors can be successfully used for the measurement of relative-humidity in both air and common soil. We also show that the same technique may be used for the fabrication of the same type of sensors on the surface of the leaves of Elægnus Ebbingei (silverberry). Our results demonstrate the suitability of leaves as substrate for printed electronics and pave the way to the next generation of sensors to be used in fields such as agriculture and flower farming.

High-Sensitivity Whispering Gallery Mode Humidity Sensor Based on Glycerol Microdroplet Volumetric Expansion

We demonstrate a highly sensitive whispering gallery mode (WGM) relative humidity (RH) sensor based on a glycerol microdroplet. WGMs were excited using a 760 nm tunable semiconductor laser. We used free space coupling, which is effective when using a liquid resonator. A detailed analysis of different parameters influencing the sensor’s characteristics (sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, stability, and temperature) is presented. The sensitivity of the sensor is one of the highest reported (2.85 nm/% RH in the range 50–70% RH with the resolution 1 × 10−4% RH). This type of humidity sensor has several advantages, such as high sensitivity, extended lifetime, good repeatability, and low cost, as well as the use of a non-toxic and environmentally friendly liquid.

Added files contain the data from Figures 3, 5, 6, 8 of the article.

Weight, Temperature and Humidity Sensor Data of Honey Bee Colonies in Germany, 2019 - 2022

Files:

bob_publication_data.zip
Sensor data in 1-minute, 1-hour and 1-day interval, processed and unprocessed version as described in data paper. Inspection data with beekeepers' meta-information collected using web app.

bob_raw_data.zip
Raw sensor data with original measurement interval, mostly 5 or 10 seconds.

bob_code_publication.zip
Code we used to prepare the data. We anonymised sections with personal keys and passwords.

Abstract:

We present sensor data from 78 honey bee colonies in Germany collected as part of a citizen science project. Each honey bee hive was equipped with five temperature sensors within the hive, one temperature sensor for outside measurements, a combined sensor for temperature, ambient air pressure and humidity, and a scale to measure the weight. During the data acquisition period, beekeepers used a web app to report their observations and beekeeping activities.
We provide the raw data with a measurement interval of up to 5 seconds as well as aggregated data, with per minute, hourly or daily average values. Furthermore, we performed several preprocessing steps, removing outliers with a threshold based approach, excluding changes in weight that were induced by beekeeping activities and combining the sensor data with the most important meta-data from the beekeepers' observations. The data is organised in directories based on the year of recording. Alternatively, we provide subsets of the data structured based on the occurrence or non-occurrence of a swarming event or the death of a colony.
The data can be analysed using methods from time series analysis, time series classification or other data science approaches to form a better understanding of specifics in the development of honey bee colonies.

Information:

The first three years of the citizen science project were funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).

Field evaluation of low-cost electrochemical air quality gas sensors under extreme temperature and relative humidity conditions

1. Files starting with Alphasense (i.e. Alphasense_raw_CO, Alphasense_raw_NO2, Alphasense_raw_O3, Alphasense_raw_SO2) correspond to the raw measurements obtained from the Alphasense low-cost sensors for CO, NO2, O3 and SO2 respectively. These files have five (5) columns each. The first column is the output of the working electrode (mV), the second column is the output of the auxiliary electrode (mV), the third column is the temperature measured by the reference instrument (C), the fourth column is the relative humidity measured by the reference instrument (%) and the fifth column is the matlab time.

2. Files starting with Winsen (i.e. Winsen _raw_CO, Winsen _raw_NO2, Winsen _raw_O3, Winsen _raw_SO2) correspond to the raw measurements obtained from the Winsen low-cost sensors for CO, NO2, O3 and SO2 respectively. These files have four (4) columns each. The first column is the concentration output (ppb), the second column is the temperature measured by the reference instrument (C), the third column is the relative humidity measured by the reference instrument (%) and the fourth column is the matlab time.

3.
