High Frequency Under-Ice Water Temperature Buoy Data - Crystal Bog, Trout Bog, and Lake Mendota, Wisconsin, USA 2016-2020

Water temperature measurements from three Wisonsin lakes. Two bog lakes are in Northern Wisconsin, Lake Mendota is in Southern Wisconsin. Thermistor chains span the full depth of each lake. Simulated top-of-atmosphere (120 km) downward and upward solar and thermal-infrared irradiances and ice cloud optical thickness; calculated solar, TIR and net cloud radiative effect. Simulated with ice crystal properties for aggregates, droxtals, and plates based on Yang (2013).

<p>This dataset consists of three .nc files for ice crystal shapes of aggregates, plates, and droxtals. The files include ice cloud optical thickness <span class="math-tex">\(\tau\)</span> (550nm), the simulated upward and downward irradiances <span class="math-tex">\(F\)</span> at the top-of-atmosphere (with and without the presence of the ice cloud), and the calculated ice cloud radiative effect <span class="math-tex">\(\Delta F\)</span> (solar [0.3-3.5 <span class="math-tex">\(\mu\)</span>m], thermal-infrared [3.5-75 <span class="math-tex">\(\mu\)</span>m], and net). The data set allows the user to extract <span class="math-tex">\(\Delta F\)</span> values for their parameter combinations. The available cloudy and cloud-free irradiances further allow to calculate the cirrus radiative effect (RE) by scaling the &#39;cloudy&#39; RE with the required cloud cover. This serves as a first-approximation because, as 3D effects are neglected.</p>

The EcoTrends project was established in 2004 by Dr. Debra Peters (Jornada Basin LTER, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range) and Dr. Ariel Lugo (Luquillo LTER, USDA-FS Luquillo Experimental Forest) to support the collection and analysis of long-term ecological datasets. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA). The web portal is a collaboration between the Jornada LTER and the LTER Network Office. The following dataset from North Temperate Lakes (NTL) contains ice duration measurements in daysPerYear units and were aggregated to a yearly timescale.

<p>In this repository, we include the source codes used in the ESS publication "Quantifying the uncertainty of ice-crystal-related parameters to simulated winter precipitation over the Korean Peninsula"</p><p>There are WDM6 codes and parameter sets in "Model_codes" for WRF simulation, model output files in "Model_outputs", AWS datas in "AWS", Scripts for calculating statistical values in a table in "Table", and "Figures" has a scripts for the figure of the manuscript.</p><p>In "Model_codes", the text file starting with LHS is 50 parameters sets generated by the Latin hypercube sampling method, and the text files starting with the case are the set of parameters used for the SEN experiment for each case.&nbsp;There are two WDM6 codes, the CTL code uses the parameter set in Table 1 as CTL, and the LHS code uses the 50 parameters set in the text file.</p><p>In "Figures", there is a script corresponding to each figure of the paper.</p>

Decreased aviation leads to increased ice crystal number and a positive radiative effect

<p>This is the dataset to support our paper titled of &quot;Decreased aviation leads to increased ice crystal number and a positive radiative effect&quot;.&nbsp;Travel restrictions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an unprecedented decrease of 73% in global flight mileage in April-May 2020 compared to 2019. Here we examine the CALIPSO satellite observations and find a significant increase in ice crystal number concentrations (Ni) in cirrus clouds in the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, which we attribute to an increase in homogeneous freezing when soot from aircraft emissions is reduced. A relatively small positive radiative effect of 21 mWm<sup>-2</sup> is estimated if a decrease in aircraft traffic continues. We infer from this analysis that the worldwide adoption of biofuel blending in aircraft fuels that lead to smaller soot emissions could lead to a significant change in the microphysical properties of cirrus clouds but a rather small positive radiative effect.</p> <p>This dataset including three sections. The data are model output or input from climate simulations conducted with Community Earth System Model (CESM) version 1.2.2 with IMPACT aerosol module. The input files are default in the component set of &quot;FC5&quot; in the CESM model. The files in the dataset are described below:</p> <p><strong>Model code.zip: </strong>This tar file contains the sources code of the IMPACT aerosol module that we implemented as additional aerosol module embedded in the CESM model which is publicly available from NCAR repository. Single-Scattering property database of randomly oriented very complex ice crystals in the microwave

<p>A database consisting of the single-scattering properties of budding rosette aggregates and rosette aggregates calculated at frequencies in the mm-wave and sub-mm-wave regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The full set of single-scattering properties have been made available at the temperatures of -83 degree C, -43 degree C, and -3 degree C at the frequencies of 50, 183 and 243 GHz. Other frequencies will become available once completed in the sub-mm-wave region of the spectrum.
