Nanolaminography dataset: Three-dimensional imaging of integrated circuits with a macro to nanoscale zoom

Here we present a ptychographic X-ray laminography (PyXL) dataset. It is a new approach for nano-imaging that combines a coherent diffractive imaging technique called ptychography with laminography, which is a generalization of tomography. This allows achieving sub-20 nm resolution over large sample volumes.

Non-destructive three-dimensional imaging over large volumes with nano-scale resolution is a challenge faced in many fields, perhaps most acutely in mapping the natural neural connectome and artificial silicon-based integrated circuits. For the latter, such inspection is of interest for quality control and security acquiring particular importance due to the delocalized nature of the chain connecting chip design, manufacture and use. A hierarchy of probes are used to image at length scales from that of the entire chip (millimeters) to those of individual features (nanometers) of the underlying transistors, starting with optical microscopy and finishing with transmission electron microscopy on thin slices prepared using a focused ion beam. What has been missing until now is a single technique yielding a three-dimensional image of the entire chip volume with zooming capability to produce high-resolution images of arbitrarily chosen sub-regions, including virtual delayering.

The related publication can be accessed via ShareIt https://rdcu.be/bTudW

Clonally related, Notch-differentiated spinal neurons integrate into distinct circuits EPhys raw data

Shared lineage has diverse effects on patterns of neuronal connectivity. In mammalian cortex, excitatory sister neurons assemble into shared microcircuits, whereas throughout the Drosophila nervous system, Notch-differentiated sister neurons diverge into distinct circuits. Notch-differentiated sister neurons have been observed in vertebrate spinal cord and cerebellum, but whether they integrate into shared or distinct circuits remains unknown. Here we evaluate the connectivity between sister V2a/b neurons in the zebrafish spinal cord. Using an in vivo labeling approach, we identified pairs of sister V2a/b neurons born from individual Vsx1+ progenitors and observed that they have similar axonal trajectories and proximal somata. However, paired whole-cell electrophysiology and optogenetics revealed that sister V2a/b neurons receive input from distinct presynaptic sources, do not communicate with each other, and connect to largely distinct targets. These results resemble the divergent connectivity in Drosophila and represent the first evidence of Notch-differentiated circuit integration in a vertebrate system.

Automated Stitching of Noisy Scanning Electron Microscopy Images for Integrated Circuit Reverse Engineering

A scanning electron microscope (SEM) usually creates images in the range of megapixel resolutions, but analyzing an IC layer requires resolutions in the gigapixel range. To create such large images, many individual images must be taken and then fused into one large image, which poses unique challenges: SEM images are affected by distortion due to charging effects and often exhibit high levels of noise and low contrast. One way of reducing the entry barrier to IC reverse engineering is to develop algorithms that can provide good results even in the case of suboptimal image quality, as can be produced by older, more readily available SEMs.

This dataset contains images and additional information that has been cut from the PAINE paper due to length constraints. It also links to the thesis which served as base for the PAINE paper.

OpenABC-D: A Large-Scale Dataset For Machine Learning Guided Integrated Circuit Synthesis

Logic synthesis is a challenging and widely-researched combinatorial optimization problem during integrated circuit (IC) design. It transforms a high-level description of hardware in a programming language like Verilog into an optimized digital circuit netlist, a network of interconnected Boolean logic gates, that implements the function. Spurred by the success of ML in solving combinatorial and graph problems in other domains, there is growing interest in the design of ML-guided logic synthesis tools. Yet, there are no standard datasets or prototypical learning tasks defined for this problem domain. Here, we describe OpenABC-D,a large-scale, labeled dataset produced by synthesizing open source designs with a leading open-source logic synthesis tool and illustrate its use in developing, evaluating and benchmarking ML-guided logic synthesis. OpenABC-D has intermediate and final outputs in the form of 870,000 And-Inverter-Graphs (AIGs) produced from 1500 synthesis runs plus labels such as the optimized node counts, and de-lay. We define a generic learning problem on this dataset and benchmark existing solutions for it. The codes related to dataset creation and benchmark models are available athttps://github.com/NYU-MLDA/OpenABC.git.
