Interviews with members of the HJA Community during the Lookout Fire, HJ Andrews Experimental Forest, 2023

This dataset records the interview instrument, analytical codebook, and summary of results for the 2023 Lookout Fire Qualitative Interviews. Data was collected in 2023 in Corvallis, Oregon, and over Zoom. Members of the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest (HJA) community (e.g., university faculty and administrative professionals, agency scientists and personnel, students, alumni and emeritus from the aforementioned communities) were interviewed between September 26th and November 8th 2023. At the time, the fire had largely stopped growing (no significant runs occurred during the interview period), but the fire was not fully contained and the fire severity was not yet known by the community. Data collection is complete. The interview included questions about emotional reactions to the Lookout Fire, current and foreseen impacts to research at the HJA, social relationships and the fire, naturalness of the fire, and climate change, climate anxiety, and the fire. Interviews were semi-structured; while interviews were guided by the interview protocol, conversation was allowed to proceed organically. In total, 40 respondents were interviewed. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed inductively and deductively. A finalized codebook was developed iteratively; the included codebook are the final codes used to analyze the full dataset. Interview transcripts and other potentially identifying information is not available to protect respondent confidentiality and anonymity. This dataset summarizes the key interview results.

Sound-Frameworks: Kresten Bjorn Krab-Bjerre (Bang & Olufsen) - Interview

<p><span>This is a transcription of an interview that took place within the project Sound-Frameworks: Collaborative Frameworks for Integrating Sound Within Urban Design and Planning Processes.</span></p> <p><span>Sound-Frameworks is an action-led research project that explores the role of sound in urban design and city planning. The project is led by the artist and researcher Dr. Sven Anderson and hosted by Theatrum Mundi, a non-profit organisation that expands the craft of city-making through collaboration with artists.</span></p> <p><span>Central to this project is a focus on how urban sonic experience can serve as a driver for design in the public realm. The public realm constitutes the integral connective tissue that defines the contemporary cityscape, within which different individuals, communities and institutions engage with each other through cooperation and conflict. Sound has remained a neglected dimension of this domain, generally coming into consideration only within late stages of design through efforts to ameliorate the impact of environmental noise. As the densification of urban territories accelerates, the role of sonic experience as an essential factor to be addressed by urban designers must be reassessed.</span></p> <p><span>Sound-Frameworks explores new methodologies for integrating sound in urban design through the production of three inter-related resources:</span></p> <p><span>1. A sound in practice survey<br>2. A publication on best practice guidelines in this field<br>3. This study compares the effects of Combined Cognitive Reappraisal (CCR: acceptance and reappraise via perspective-taking) and suppression using the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST). One hundred participants were randomly assigned to one of the two groups and subjective, physiological, and behavioural data were recorded. Continuous electrocardiography was recorded to measure heart rate variability (HRV) and stress levels. Affective ratings were provided before and after the TSST. Behavioural expressions were videotaped and analysed independently. Trait social anxiety/fear, age and gender entered as covariates. Although no group differences were found on affective ratings, the CCR group presented less physiological stress, higher HRV, their speech was better perceived, displayed more affiliative smile and hand gestures. Results suggested that CCR is more appropriate than suppression for managing social stress situations.</p>

SolarSMART Social Energy Atlas 2020 Georgia Interviews

<p>The SolarSMART Social Energy Atlas 2020 Georgia Interview dataset provides results from interviews with 2018 residents of the State of Georgia above the age of 18 on their perceptions of photovoltaic solar energy. The interview includes the following: demographic information for each respondent, their location in the state (by ZIP Code); the type of house they reside within; whether they have or have not adopted solar energy (and if so, how did they adopt solar energy); audio recordings of a semi-structured interview between the informants and representatives from the project who were often agents from the UGA Cooperative Extension Service; and the outputs from that interview that also included draw-a-map responses to where they perceived people adopted solar technologies in the United States and the State of Georgia. Respondents were from 25 of the 159 counties of the State of Georgia, with representation of both urban and rural residents. In total, the dataset includes 25 variables currently coded (with over 170 identified. Transcriptions of the interviews are also provided in the dataset alongside graphics for each informant that can be used in presentations and other derivatives involving this dataset in the future. This dataset inspired the SolarSMART 2020 Georgia Survey dataset (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.4540819). &nbsp;</p>

Publishing Reproducible Research Outputs - Thematic coding of interview findings

<p>The&nbsp;spreadsheet&nbsp;in the present dataset (CSV format) includes&nbsp;the anonymised thematic coding that has been applied to our interview findings. A list of interviewees and interview questions is available <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5141665">here</a>.</p> <p>The thematic coding has been applied by using&nbsp;<a href="https://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo-qualitative-data-analysis-software/home">NVivo</a>, a professional qualitative analysis software, and then exported in spreadsheet form for public sharing. The findings of this analysis have been used to inform our final report, which is available in our <a href="https://zenodo.org/communities/ke-prro/?page=1&amp;size=20">Zenodo project Community</a>.</p>

Institutional Dimensions of Restoring Everglades Water Quality -Interview Notes (FCE), September 2014-July 2015

These data were compiled through semi-structured and open-ended interviews as part of the Institutional Dimensions of Restoring Everglades Water Quality research project. The notes represent responses from farmers, agricultural extension agents, state and federal government officials, private water consultants, and nonprofit officials involved in the implementation of the Everglades Forever Act regulations. These mandate that farms in the Everglades Agricultural Area implement best management practices to reduce phosphorus enrichment. Since the regulations started in 1994, water quality has steadily improved. The research sought to explain why the regulations have been effective.

Manure Cycling Interview Data

Exploring the potential for nutrient circularity in the beef production system requires an understanding of current practices. Manure nutrients produced in feedlots are an ample source of fertilizer for phosphorus deficient crop and hay lands. However, it is unclear how far manure nutrients are travelling from feedlots, what crops they’re being applied to, and whether those grains are in turn integrated into the feedlot operations. The purpose of these interviews was to ascertain the above information from feedlot managers. In addition, we sought contextual information (provenance of cattle, cattle weights/ages, manure treatment, regulations/guidelines, processing facility destination, barriers, suggestions for improvements). To answer our question about potential manure nutrient circularity, we focused and report here the elements pertaining to feed/grain provenance, crops manure was applied to, and export distance for manure.
