Knowledge repository for Non-Wood Forest Products - Dataset of factsheets from INCREDIBLE
<p>The<strong><em> Knowledge Repository for Non-Wood Forest Products</em></strong> is a collection of information on innovation about non-wood forest products gathered from experts and practitioners during the <a href="https://incredibleforest.net/">INCREDIBLE project</a>. It brings together, in a single platform, knowledge about cork, pine oleoresin, wild mushrooms & truffles, aromatic & medicinal plants and wild nuts & berries, around various themes, from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Greece and Tunisia.</p> <p>Each piece of knowledge is summarised in a factsheet, that can concern one or several non-wood forest products, as some issues or solutions are transversal. The factsheets can either contain practical knowledge (success stories, good practices, technical reports) or more theoretical or academic results (research results, databases, policies). The factsheets can also be identified by the position in the value chain to which the knowledge applies, from forestry to end-consumers.</p>

Master database for publication "Stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production for better watershed management with the Freshwater Health Index"
<p> </p> <p>The spreadsheet is the master database used for the research with the title of "Stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production for better watershed management with the Freshwater Health Index" to be published on <em>Current Research in Environmental Sustainability</em> in late 2022.</p> <p>The data include narratives for six principles on stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production. These principles were derived by combining Talley et al’s five principles for effective stakeholder engagement (Talley et al. 2016) with Norström et al’s four principles for knowledge co-production (Norström et al. 2020). The six principles were aligned with the components of the freshwater health index (FHI) framework. Project leaders from nine FHI case studies completed a text table based on the description of the six principles and their FHI factors. This process generated the present master qualitative database with narrative responses. </p> <p>The socio-ecological context for each case study is provided for contextualization.</p>
A Benchmark Dataset with Knowledge Graph Generation for Industry 4.0 Production Lines
<p>A benchmark dataset for knowledge graph generation in Industry 4.0 production lines and to show the benefits of using ontologies and semantic annotations of data to showcase how I4.0 industry can benefit from KGs and semantic datasets. This work is a result of collaborations with the production line managers, supervisors, and engineers of a football industry to acquire realistic production line data. Knowledge Graphs (KGs) or a Knowledge Graph (KG) emerged as a significant technology to store the semantics of the domain entities. The data is mapped and populated with RGOM classes and relations using an automated solution based on JenaAPI, producing an I4.0 KG. <br> <br> Usage:<br> <br> Recently, we use this dataset to analyze the performance of the five state-of-the-art KG embedding models, namely ComplEx, DistMult,TransE, ConvKB, and ConvE. We evaluated the models using two key metrics: Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR), and Hits@N (Hits@10, Hits@3, and Hits@1). We observed that the TransE model outperforms other models, followed by ComplEx and DistMult, with ConvE demonstrating the lowest performance. Similarly, the dataset can be used alternatively in other potential scenarios.</p>
Meta-analysis on Stakeholder Engagement in the Co-Production of Knowledge for Environmental Decision-making
<p>This dataset corresponds to a meta-analysis to examine the peer-reviewed scholarship on stakeholder engagement in co-production processes in environmental decision-making.</p> <p>The dataset was developed by searching keywords, abstracts, and titles in Scopus on three key themes: co-production, transdisciplinary, and community-based participatory research. A total of 709 publications were reviewed, from which 144 met the selection criterion. The 144 articles constitute this dataset. Data from: Knowledge co-production with traditional herders on cattle grazing behaviour for better management of species-rich grasslands
The research gap between rangeland/livestock science and conservation biology/vegetation ecology has led to a lack of evidence needed for grazing-related conservation management. Connecting scientific understanding with traditional ecological knowledge of local livestock keepers could help bridge this research and knowledge gap. 1. We studied the grazing behaviour (plant selection and avoidance) of beef cattle (ca. 33 000 bites) on species-rich lowland pastures in Central Europe and traditional herding practices. We also did >450 outdoor interviews with traditional herders about livestock behaviour, herders' decisions to modify grazing behaviour, and effects of modified grazing on pasture vegetation. 2. We found that cattle grazing on species-rich pastures displayed at least 10 different behavioural elements as they encountered 117 forage species from highly desired to rejected. The small discrimination error suggests that cattle recognize all listed plants 'by species'. 3. We also found that herders had broad knowledge of grazing desire and they consciously aimed to modify desire by slowing, stopping or redirecting the herd. Modifications were aimed at increasing grazing intensity in less desired patches and decreasing grazing selectivity in heterogenous swards. 4. Synthesis and applications: These traditional herd management practices have significant conservation benefits, such as avoiding under- and overgrazing, and targeted removal of pasture weeds, litter and enchroaching bushes, tall competitive plants and invasive species. We argue that knowledge co-production with traditional herders who belong to another knowledge system could help connect isolated scientific disciplines especially if ecologists and rangeland scientists work closely with traditional herders, co-designing research projects and working together in data collection, analysis and interpretation. Stronger links between these disciplines could help develop evidence-based, specific conservation management practices while herders could contribute with their practical experiences and with real world testing of new management techniques.04-May-2020
Data from: The roles of non-production vegetation in agroecosystems: a research framework for filling process knowledge gaps in a social-ecological context
<p>1. An ever-expanding human population, climatic changes, and the spread of intensive farming practices is putting increasing pressure on agroecosystems and their inherent biodiversity. Non-production vegetation elements, such as woody patches, riparian margins, and restoration plantings, are vital for conserving agroecosystem biodiversity. Further, such elements are key building blocks that are manipulated via land management, thereby influencing the biotic and abiotic processes that underpin functioning agroecosystems.</p> <p>2. Despite this critical role, there has been a lack of synthesis on which types of vegetation elements drive and/or support ecological processes, and the mechanisms by which this occurs. Using a systematic, quantitative literature review of 342 articles, we asked: what are the effects of non-production vegetation on agroecosystem processes and how are these processes measured within global agroecosystems?</p> <p>3. Woody patches, hedgerows and borders, riparian margins, and shelterbelts were the most studied types of non-production vegetation. The majority (61%) of studies showed positive effects of non-production vegetation on ecological processes, where the presence, level or rate of the studied process was increased or enhanced.</p> <p>4. However, four key research gaps were revealed: (1) most studies (83%) used proxies for, instead of direct measurements of, ecosystem processes related to non-production vegetation; (2) study designs used to investigate non-production vegetation effects on ecosystem processes directly were largely limited to observational comparisons of non-production vegetation types, farm-scale vegetation configurations, and different proximities to vegetation in terms of the effect on ecological processes; relatively few studies used manipulative experiments (3) the relatively few studies directly measuring ecosystem processes were dominated by four process categories: invertebrate biocontrol, predator and natural enemy spillover, animal movement, and ecosystem cycling, and (4) the methods used to directly measure non-production vegetation effects comprised a surprisingly limited set of approaches.</p> <p>5. To fill key research gaps that will inform the use of non-production vegetation to enhance agroecosystem processes, we present a framework for future research that emphasises the need to combine an understanding of human decision making with carefully-designed and targeted investigations into the roles of taxa, ecosystem processes, and landscape heterogeneity related to non-production vegetation, at multiple spatial scales within agroecosystems.</p>
BIOFRUITNET - Boosting Innovation in Organic FRUIT production through knowledge NETworks - WP2 - Database of ready for practice materials
<p>In the project BIOFRUITNET (Boosting Innovation in Organic FRUIT production through knowledge NETworks, HORIZON 2020 Grant Agreement No. 862850), WP2, a database of technical and scientific publications concerning plant health care have been compiled. The materials in the database were collected by participants in the project (SLU, HortiAdvice, UCPH, GRAB, FIBL, FÖKO, INHORT, VSUO, LAIMBURG, CIHEM-IAMB, ECOVALIA). Materials were chosen for their relevance to organic fruit growers and advisors. The materials in the collection are describing ready for practice methods and tools, covering <strong>stone fruits, pome fruits and citrus fruits</strong>, within the selected main topics: <strong>pests, plant diseases and plant nutrition</strong>. Materials were collected from March to September 2020. Data from: Analysing biodiversity and conservation knowledge products to support regional environmental assessments
Two processes for regional environmental assessment are currently underway: the Global Environment Outlook (GEO) and Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Both face constraints of data, time, capacity, and resources. To support these assessments, we disaggregate three global knowledge products according to their regions and subregions. These products are: The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, Key Biodiversity Areas (specifically Important Bird & Biodiversity Areas [IBAs], and Alliance for Zero Extinction [AZE] sites), and Protected Planet. We present fourteen Data citations: numbers of species occurring and percentages threatened; numbers of endemics and percentages threatened; downscaled Red List Indices for mammals, birds, and amphibians; numbers, mean sizes, and percentage coverages of IBAs and AZE sites; percentage coverage of land and sea by protected areas; and trends in percentages of IBAs and AZE sites wholly covered by protected areas. These data will inform the regional/subregional assessment chapters on the status of biodiversity, drivers of its decline, and institutional responses, and greatly facilitate comparability and consistency between the different regional/subregional assessments.

<p>In the project BIOFRUITNET (Boosting Innovation in Organic FRUIT production through knowledge NETworks, HORIZON 2020 Grant Agreement No. 862850), nine search strings covering <strong>stone fruits, pome fruits and citrus fruits</strong>, within the selected main topics: <strong>pests, plant diseases and plant nutrition </strong>were developed, to target the most relevant scientific literature within the topics. The bibliographic searches were conducted on October 19, 2020 in Web of Science. The databases presented are the complete lists of references included from the WoS search. These lists will be processed to select the most relevant materials ready for practice in a following project work package.
