Last Interglacial sea-level data points from Northwest Europe

<p>This dataset contains known preserved Last Interglacial (Eemian, Ipswichian, MIS 5e, MIS 5) sea level proxies for NW Europe: from along the&nbsp;shores of the English Channel and North Sea, and from their offshore areas. This V2&nbsp;version&nbsp;includes 146&nbsp;sea-level indicator data points from in and around the North Sea (35 entries in Netherlands, 10 Belgium, 23&nbsp;in Germany, 17 in Denmark, 9 in Britain) and the English Channel (24&nbsp;entries for the British and 25 for the French side, 3 on the Channel Isles), believed to be a representative and fairly complete inventory and assessment coming from some 80 published sites.&nbsp;The database also includes a modest subselection of data points from older interglacials (six sites), for comparative use. The dataset has been constructed in and has been exported from the World Atlas of Last Interglacial Shorelines (WALIS) database (<a href="https://warmcoasts.eu/world-atlas.html">https://warmcoasts.eu/world-atlas.html</a>).</p> <p>The sea level proxies in majority are obtained from localities with well developed lithostratigraphic (MIS-6 aged &lsquo;Saalian&rsquo; glaciogenic landforms and deposits as the substrate), morphostratigraphic (position in terrace flights),&nbsp;Amino-Acid Racemization, and biostratigraphic constraints (&#39;Lusitanian&#39; molluscan, foraminifera, pollen successions, other).&nbsp;The majority of European continental sites have chronostratigraphic age-control (regional encoding scheme included in dataset) notably by correlation to regional Pollen Association Zones with varve-count based durations (reckoned to span at least 11,000 years of temperate interglacial conditions; matching a good part of MIS 5e), and/or Foraminiferal Association Zones (echoing marine environmental and paleogeographic changes), and/or from AAR zones (majority of British sites, selected sites of mainland NW Europe; albeit for many sites older, lesser quality applications of the&nbsp;technique). In all regions, some of&nbsp;the marine deposits and bracketing terrestrial ones have also been independently dated using luminescence (IRSL, OSL, TL), U-series and ESR techniques.</p>

Datasets for manuscript: Global River Discharge and Floods in the Warmer Climate of the Last Interglacial

<p>This datasets contains results of the global hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling presented in the paper referenced in the title (doi: 10.1029/2020GL089375). The dataset comprises results for one set of simulations, based on Global Climate Model CESM1.2, out of the eight sets of simulations for eight GCMs included in the paper. Last interglacial (MIS 5e) sea-level proxies in southeastern South America

<p>This dataset is a compilation of published last interglacial sea level indicators for the southeast coast of South America (including Uruguay, Argentina, and one site in southern Chile). We have documented 60 proxies, which includes 48 sea level index points, 11 marine limiting indicators and 1 terrestrial limiting indicator. All of these data have at least some chronological control, with radiocarbon, electron spin resonance, U/Th, amino acid racemization and OSL dating techniques. The vertical uncertainty values were assigned based on information given for measurements, and the type of deposit.</p>

Quantitative estimates of glacial refugia for chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) since the Last Interglacial (120,000 BP)

<p>Paleoclimate reconstructions have enhanced our understanding of how past climates have shaped present-day biodiversity. We hypothesize that the geographic extent of Pleistocene forest refugia and suitable habitat fluctuated significantly in time during the late Quaternary for chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). Using bioclimatic variables representing monthly temperature and precipitation estimates, past human population density data and an extensive database of georeferenced presence points, we built a model of changing habitat suitability for chimpanzees at fine spatio-temporal scales dating back to the Last Interglacial (120,000 BP). Our models cover a spatial resolution of 0.0467 degrees (approximately 5.19 km2 grid cells) and a temporal resolution of between1,000–4,000 years . Using our model, we mapped habitat stability over time using three approaches, comparing our modelled stability estimates to existing knowledge of Afrotropical refugia, as well as contemporary patterns of major keystone tropical food resources used by chimpanzees, figs (Moraceae) and palms (Arecacae). Results show habitat stability congruent with known glacial refugia across Africa, suggesting their extents may have been underestimated for chimpanzees, with potentially up to ~60,000 km2 of previously unrecognized glacial refugia. The refugia we highlight coincide with higher species richness for figs and palms. Our results provide spatio-temporally explicit insights into the role of refugia across the chimpanzee range, forming the empirical foundation for developing and testing hypotheses about behavioural, ecological and genetic diversity with additional data. This methodology can be applied to other species and geographic areas when sufficient data are available.</p>
