Litter and soil accumulation estimates derived from lateral microplot photos in the Cross-Scale Interactions Study (CSIS) at Jornada Basin LTER, 2013-2017
This dataset contains litter and soil vertical accumulation estimates derived from lateral photos of microplots in a long-term experiment (2013-2017) of cross-scale interactions (CSIs) at the Jornada Basin LTER site in southern New Mexico, U.S.A. Experimental treatments were initiated in 2013 at 15 experimental blocks, each with 4 treatment plots: plant-scale herbicide of mesquite shrubs, patch-scale connectivity modifiers (ConMods), herbicide + ConMods, control without manipulations. Repeat, lateral (side-looking) photographs of ten "microplots" in each ConMods and herbicide+ConMods plot were taken for estimation of litter, soil, and vegetation cover in the experimental treatment and control plots over time. Photographs were analyzed with SigmaScan software to determine vertical accumulation of litter and soil withing the microplots. This study is complete and ended in 2017. These vertical accumulation estimates are derived from photos in EDI dataset knb-lter-jrn.210413006.

This dataset contains archived lateral photos collected from microplots in a long-term experiment (2013-2017) of cross-scale interactions (CSIs) at the Jornada Basin LTER site in southern New Mexico, U.S.A. Experimental treatments were initiated in 2013 at 15 experimental blocks, each with 4 treatment plots: plant-scale herbicide of mesquite shrubs, patch-scale connectivity modifiers (ConMods), herbicide + ConMods, and control without manipulations. Repeat, lateral (side-looking) photographs of ten "microplots" in each plot were taken for estimation of the vertical accumulation of litter, soil, and vegetation in the experimental treatment and control plots over time. The photographs are archived by year in Zip files. This study is complete and new photos will not be added. Water quality and watershed attributes of 41 Pampean streams in Argentina, 12 years later (2003-2015).
This database consists of water chemistry (pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and carbonates) and catchment attributes for 41 streams of Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Water quality was measured in 2003/4 and 12 years later (2015/16). Sampling were made in May (autumn), November (spring), and February (summer) at baseflow condition. Some physico-chemical parameters were measured in situ. Parameters determined at laboratory were nutrients and salts. And catchment attributes were determined (physiographic parameters, land use, soil type and geology).
Lateral and vertical forest retreat rate in the mid-Atlantic sea-level rise hotspot
Ghost forests consisting of dead trees adjacent to marshes are striking indicators of climate change. Here we quantify both the lateral and vertical rate of coastal forest retreat between 1984 and 2020 along the US mid-Atlantic coast. The study region includes areas between 0-5 m above sea level across the Chesapeake Bay and the adjacent Delaware Bay. Specifically, the data package includes 2 shapefile datasets derived from four decades of Landsat satellite observations of coastal treeline dynamics. The two datasets are generated on the same spatial-scale and have the same spatial resolution (0.075 km2), both stored as hexagon grids with a side length 170 m. Here we define "forest retreat" (as shown in the datasets as positive values) as the migration of coastal treeline landwards (lateral retreat) or upslope (vertical retreat), whereas "forest advance" (negative values) refers to treeline migration seawards (lateral advance) or downslope (vertical advance). The number '999999' in both datasets indicates areas of stable coastal treelines (i.e. no change) between 1984 and 2020.

Data package associated with Handler et al. (2024) "Nitrate loads from land to stream are balanced by in-stream nitrate uptake across season in a dryland stream". The study describes the nitrate dynamics in Oak Creek watershed. Data include measurements from four seasonal synoptic sampling campaigns, nine seasonal stream nitrate uptake experiments on the main stem and tributaries, and the results of a network model that estimates the lateral load of nitrate from surrounding landscape to the stream network as well as network-level stream nitrate uptake and retention.
Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest: Watershed 3 Lateral Weathering Pedon Descriptions
Soil pits and horizons were described and sampled as part of the Lateral Weathering project within Watershed 3, Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, Woodstock, NH, USA from 2018-2020. Soil pits were dug and described using NRCS methods. When possible, physical samples were archived in the Hubbard Brook Sample Archive. These data were gathered as part of the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study (HBES). The HBES is a collaborative effort at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, which is operated and maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station.

<p>Direct local nanofabrication of silicon oxide by Focused Electron Beam Induced Deposition (FEBID) can have a significant impact in the fabrication of nanoscale circuits for creating insulating barriers and may act as a mask in etching steps. It is known that SiOx can be grown by FEBID using Si precursors such as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10-pentamethyl-cyclopenta-siloxane (PMCPS) combined with water. High-resolution deposition of lines and dots by FEBID has been achieved in different electron microscope systems. However, high-resolution SiOx deposits using PMCPS combined with water has not been reported yet.<br> FEBID is out carried in an eLINE system (Raith) equipped with a Schottky-type electron emitter. The precursor gas is supplied in the chamber through a five-needle gas injection system (GIS). The reservoir’s temperature of PMCPS and water is 30°C. The GIS is positioned approximately 500μm above the sample. A Si/SiO2 (native) substrate with 5nm Pt on top was used. Single pixel lines with a length of 1μm were patterned with an electron beam energy of 30keV, a beam current of 32pA, a 10μs dwell time and at 10mm working distance. The Pt was deposited in order to enhance the contrast between the substrate and the deposited SiOx.</p>

Data Set related to Synaptic inhibition in the lateral habenula shapes reward anticipation.
<p>The lateral habenula (LHb) supports learning processes enabling the prediction of upcoming rewards. While reward-related stimuli decrease the activity of LHb neurons, whether this anchors on synaptic inhibition to guide reward-driven behaviors remains poorly understood. Here, we combine in vivo two-photon calcium imaging with Pavlovian conditioning in mice and report that anticipatory licking emerges along with decreases in cue-evoked calcium signals in individual LHb neurons. In vivo multiunit recordings and pharmacology reveal that the cue-evoked reduction in LHb neuronal firing relies on GABA<sub>A</sub>-receptor activation. In parallel, we observe a postsynaptic potentiation of GABA<sub>A</sub>-receptor-mediated inhibition, but not excitation, onto LHb neurons together with the establishment of anticipatory licking. Finally, strengthening or weakening postsynaptic inhibition with optogenetics and GABA<sub>A</sub>-receptor manipulations enhances or reduces anticipatory licking, respectively. Hence, synaptic inhibition in the LHb shapes reward anticipation.</p>
