Dataset of "Selective Precipitation of REE-Rich Aluminum Phosphate with Low Lithium Losses from Lithium Enriched Slag Leachate"

Currently, recycling of spent lithium-ion batteries is carried out using mechanical, pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical methods and their combination. The aim of this article is to study a part of pyro-hydrometallurgical processing of spent lithium-ion batteries which includes lithium slag hydrometallurgical treatment and refining obtained leachate. Lithium slag intended for leaching experiments contains 3,68 % of Li; 11,02 % of Al; 1,17 % of Co; 1,71 % of Cu and other metals in minority content. Leaching step was realized via dry digestion that is an effective method capable of transferring over 99% of the present metals such as Li, Al, Co, Cu and others to the leachate. The highest content in leachate reached Al (2666 µg/mL) and Li (2239 µg/mL). Extraction of metals from leachate can be conducted using various methods, with precipitation being the most used. In this work, the influence of two types of precipitation agent (NaOH, Na3PO4) on precipitation efficiency of Al and Li losses was investigated. It was found that the precipitation of aluminium with NaOH can result in the co-precipitation of lithium, causing total lithium losses up to 40 %. As suitable precipitating agent for complete Al removal from Li leachate with a minimal loss of lithium (less than 2 %), crystalline Na3PO4 was determined under following condition: pH = 3, 400 rpm, 10 minutes, room temperature. Analysis confirmed that, in addition to aluminium, the precipitate also contains REE La (3.4%), Ce (2.5%), Y (1.3%), Nd (1%) and Pr (0.3%), which selective recovery will be the subject of further study.

Accession numbers for radiocarbon and stable carbon isotopes of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in soil leachates from permafrost soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in the summers of 2018 and 2022
Leachates of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) from permafrost soils were prepared from soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in 2018 and 2022. Soil leachates were then either kept in the dark or exposed to light from LEDs at 305 nm (UV) and 405 nm (visible), and then inoculated with native microbial communities and incubated. At the start of the biological incubations, single replicates of the DOC after dark or light treatment and inoculation were assigned accession numbers and analyzed for 14C and 13C at the National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) facility. At the end of the biological incubations, duplicates of the dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in those waters were assigned accession numbers and analyzed for 14C and 13C at the NOSAMS facility.

Methane (CH4) concentrations were measured in dissolved organic carbon (DOC) leachates of permafrost soils collected from the frozen permafrost layer at five sites underlying tussock tundra or wet sedge vegetation on the North Slope of Alaska during the summers of 2018 and 2019.
Seasonal N dynamics and fluxes of nitrogen in leachate and runoff from experimental rainfalls on fertilized and unfertilized lawns in Baltimore County, Maryland
The aim of this research was to examine the spatial and temporal variation in export control points of nitrogen on residential lawns (locations prone to mobilizing nitrogen during a rain event) and to examine if previously measured hydrobiogeochemical properties were predictive of N mobilization in lawns. This data set contains measurements of saturated infiltration rates, sorptivity, soil moisture, soil organic matter, bulk density, pH, soil nitrate, soil ammonium, N2O, N2 and CO2 fluxes from soil cores, nitrogen mineralization rates and fluxes of N in runoff and leachate from fertilized and unfertilized residential and institutional lawns. Study lawns were located at homes of people who agreed to volunteer their lawn for the study from a door knocking campaign. Four sampling houses were located in an exurban neighborhood in Baisman Run. Five sampling houses were located in a suburban neighborhood in Dead Run. Two sampling locations on institutional lawns were located at University of Maryland Baltimore County. At the exurban study houses and institutional lawns sites, we identified one hillslope to conduct sampling on. At the Dead Run houses we identified one hillslope on the front yard and one in the backyard as there were distinct locations that were not present in the exurban neighborhood. Locations within the yards for sampling were selected based on sampling conducted in October 2017. Locations were grouped into four categories based on have either high or low potential denitrification rates and high or low saturated infiltration rates (n=48). These locations were also distributed across yard types (exurban, suburban or institutional), fertilizer treatments, and hillslope location (top or bottom of hillslope). At each sampling location we ran a Cornell Sprinkle Infiltrometer to generate an experimental rainfall during which we collected runoff and leachate to quantity N flux. We also measure sorptivity and saturated infiltration rates. Volumetric water conten
Leaf leachate chemistry and uptake metrics in headwater streams July 2015
This dataset contains the results of uptake experiments conducted at Caribou-Poker Creeks Research Watershed in July 2015. The objective of the study was to determine the relative influence of molecular composition and nutrient content of organic matter on the retention of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in boreal streams. We measured in situ rates of carbon uptake in streams following introduction of leachates derived from of alder (Alnus incana ssp. tenuifolia), poplar (Populus balsamifera), and white spruce (Picea glauca) trees subject to long-term fertilization with nitrogen (N) or phosphorus (P). We measured leachate composition through chemical analysis and optical properties (absorbance and fluorescence).
Water chemistry of leachates prepared from permafrost soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in the summers of 2015 and 2018
Soils were collected from the frozen permafrost layer (greater than 60 cm below the surface) at six sites underlying tussock or wet sedge vegetation, and on three glacial surfaces on the North Slope of Alaska during the summers of 2015 and 2018. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was leached from each permafrost soil and the water chemistry was analyzed.
Preparation of DOC leachates from permafrost soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in the summer of 2018

Napa River Watershed, U.S.A. soil leachate and surface water sulfate sulfur isotopes and concentrations
Sulfur (S) is widely used in agriculture, yet little is known about its fates and consequences within upland, mixed land-use land-cover watersheds. This dataset includes samples collected throughout the Napa River Watershed, California, U.S.A., where high S applications to vineyard agriculture are common. Sample collection focused on tracing the agricultural S “fingerprint” —or the combined S stable isotope composition and concentration of sulfate—through the Watershed. We collected samples during California wet seasons (December – April) over three years (2017-2020). Samples included vineyard agriculture and non-agricultural (primarily forest, grassland, and shrubland) soil water, culvert outflows, tributaries to the Napa River, and Napa River surface water. The data table includes water sample sulfate concentrations and sulfate-S stable isotope measurements as well as the stable isotope composition of S fungicide samples.
Murphy Dome: Moss (Hylocomium splendens and Pleurozium schreberi) biomass results from a birch leaf litter and leachates manipulation experiment in a black spruce stand.
This dataset contains moss (Hylocomium splendens and Pleurozium schreberi) growth from individual moss shoots in a black spruce stand. 10 H. splendens and 5 P. schreberi were marked with PVC beads and measured in September 2014 and then each moss segment was measured again August 2015. All samples were harvested in 2015 and their dry weights were calculated. Moss biomass from other time periods were estimated using allometric equations. The data was collected in the spruce stands of block A only at Murphy Dome (access via Cache Creek road).
