Mangrove Coast Collaborative Project, Hydrologic monitoring data in mangrove forests, Jobos Bay NERR, April 2024 - December 2024
The dataset describes the hydrologic conditions of the soil porewater (water level, conductivity, and temperature) at a depth of ~70 cm below ground in six mangrove forest locations in Jobos Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (JBNERR) at 30-minute intervals between April 2024 to December 2024. Locations of minimal forest recovery following the effects of Hurricane Maria (September 2017) were identified and selected for hydrologic monitoring coincident with sites sampled for structural metrics in 2022. One reference site, defined as a site that was observed to be recovering following the hurricane, was selected in black mangrove forest. Two of the six sampling locations were selected to monitor effects of human encroachment on the western boundary of the reserve. These two sites were not coincident with structural sampling plots established in 2022. This dataset is associated with the MCC Catalyst Project entitled Limits of Resilience (2023-2025) funded by the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) Science Collaborative.
Mangrove Coast Collaborative Project, Hydrologic monitoring data in mangrove forests, Rookery Bay NERR, April 2024 - December 2024
The dataset describes the hydrologic conditions of the soil porewater (water level, conductivity, and temperature) at a depth of ~70 cm below ground in six black mangrove forest locations in Rookery Bay National Esturarine Research Reserve (NERR) at 30-minute intervals between April 2024 to December 2024. Locations of minimal forest recovery following the effects of Hurricane Irma (September 2017) were identified and selected for hydrologic monitoring. The design consists of three sites in mainland/interior black mangroves and three sites on ocean-facing islands, all of which are located on the east side of Hurricane Irma eyewall. In each group, two of the sites selected were considered sites of minimal recovery whereas one site was selected as a reference (location of recovering mangroves). This dataset is associated with the MCC Catalyst Project entitled Limits of Resilience (2023-2025) funded by the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) Science Collaborative.

Minimum and maximum values for sites were found to be: Salinity(ppt) = SRSMc-S2: 0.3-14.7, SRSMc-S3: 15.6-34.4, SRSMc-S4: 2.4-34; Water temp(degrees C)= SRSMc-S2: 22.2-31.5, SRSMc-S3: 16.6-31.1, SRSMc-S4: 21.1-30.6; DO(mg/l)= SRSMc-S2: 2.55-5.27, SRSMc-S3: 2.08-5.3, SRSMc-S4: 1.25-4.2; Mean depth(cm)= SRSMc-S2: 0.0-24.6, SRSMc-S3: 5.7-41.5, SRSMc-S4: 0.0-21.4
Global Climate Change Impacts on the Vegetation and Fauna of Mangrove Forested Ecosystems in Florida (FCE): Nekton Mass from March 2000 to April 2004
Bottomless lift nets are buried within the mangrove forest floor and raised remotely on slack high spring tides to enclose a 6m2 area. As the tide ebbs, fishes retreat into a subtidal refuge cleared when the tide has fallen. Three replicate nets have been sampled at 3 locations along a salinity gradient on Shark River for 4 years. Small resident forage fish and grass shrimp dominate the collections. Exotic species and estuarine transient species that use the estuary as a nursery are rare within the assemblage of fishes that routinely use the flooded forest.

Field survey of mangrove regeneration, porewater variables, and light in mangrove forests in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA, July 2020 - August 2022
This dataset package encompasses measurements from field surveys of mangrove regeneration, porewater variables, and light conditions across six mangrove sites in the coastal Everglades. The goal of this project was to quantify mangrove regeneration of seedlings and saplings in mid- and downstream locations within three estuaries in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA. We assessed the effects of porewater variables and light conditions on the observed regeneration patterns. The package includes seven datasets: FCE1268_Porewater: Contains measurements of porewater salinity, sulfide, ammonia, nitrite, orthophosphate, and nitrate at a 30 cm depth. Porewater surveys were conducted biannually from 09-10-2020 to 05-17-2022. See also similar porewater data for Florida Coastal Everglades (FCE) long-term sites in data packages knb-lter-fce.1169 and knb-lter-fce.1171, which contain data for SRS-5 and SRS-6, available in the FCE LTER website's data catalog or the EDI repository. FCE1268_Foliar_Nutrient_Content dataset, collected in August 2022, includes measurements of foliar nutrient content (total carbon, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus) for three mangrove species (A. germinans, L. racemosa, R. mangle) of two life stages—seedlings (height < 1 m) and saplings (height ≥ 1 m and Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) < 2.5 cm). FCE1268_Light contains light intensity (foot-candle) measurements taken at 1-hour intervals from 09-18-2020 to 08-29-2022 at mangrove sites and converted photosynthetic active radiation values from an outdoor mesocosm experiment. FCE1268_Sapling_Density provides biannual count measurements of individuals at the sapling plot level (4 m^-2) within each site from 07-09-2020 to 08-29-2022. FCE1268_Seedling_Density contains biannual count measurements of individuals at the seedling plot level (m^-2) within each site from 07-07-2020 to 08-29-2022. FCE1268_Sapling_Regeneration contains height, crown area, and stem elongation measurements of tagged sapling indiv

Fig. 8. Classification tree model computed from the morphometric characters of complete specimen data (with carapace sculpturing). A binary decision is made at each node, where 'true' for the node description lead to branch at left and 'false' to right.
