MALDI-TOF spectra of bovine, caprine and ovine milk and their mixtures

<p>In this dataset we provide MALDI-TOF spectra of bovine milk in caprine and ovine milk. The dataset contains normalized spectra of pure milk samples and their mixtures. <strong>Different level of adulteration (0.5%, 1%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%)</strong> were analyzed throughout the lactation period of goat and sheep. Two different ranges of peptide-protein spectra <strong>(500&ndash;4000 Da; 4&ndash;20 kDa)</strong> were used. Exported spectra are in TXT files (<em>m/z</em> and intensity) for processing in other software (ex. mMass). Acquisition methods are included.</p> <p>MALDI-TOF MS analysis was performed using an Autoflex Speed (Bruker Daltonics, Germany) equipped with a SmartBeam<sup>TM</sup> II laser (355 nm) and flexControl software (version 3.4 Build 135, Bruker Daltonics, Germany).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The dataset is a part of Supplementary file for the manuscript:</p> <p><em><strong>Evaluation of MALDI‐TOF MS technology in small ruminants&rsquo; milk adulteration using raw bovine milk</strong></em> by L. Dataset of milk yield response of a suckling cow exposed to feed restrictions

<p>The detaset describes the response of a suckler cow in terms of milk yield (MY, kg&middot;d<sup>-1</sup>), which was exposed to two feed restrictions (FR) consisting in the reduction of net energy requirements by 50%. The dataset has three columns, the first one is time (t)&nbsp;in days (d), the second one is also&nbsp;time (t2, d)&nbsp;and the third column is MY. The first FR started at t = 0 d and lasted untill t = 3 d, the second FR started at t = 21 d until t = 31 d. The second column for time is obtained from the first column by omitting data points corresponding to&nbsp;restriction and recovery periods. Negative values for t and t2 represent the pre-challenge period.&nbsp;</p>

Over 6 billion liters of Canadian milk wasted since 2012

<p>This file provides data used to approximate the annual Canadian milk yield based on herd statistics and estimated on-farm use. Using a mass balance approach, subtracting farm gate sales data, the balance is assumed to be wasted before leaving the farm gate. IMPACT OF US BROWN SWISS GENETICS ON MILK QUALITY FROM LOW-INPUT HERDS IN SWITZERLAND: INTERACTIONS WITH SEASON

<p>This study aimed to investigate the effect of, and interactions between, US Brown Swiss genetics and season on milk yield, basic composition and fatty acid profiles, from cows on low-input farms in Switzerland. Milk samples (n=1,976) were collected from 1,220 crossbreed cows with differing proportions of BS, Braunvieh and Original Braunvieh genetics on 40 farms during winter-indoor and summer-grazing seasons. Cows with more Brown Swiss genetics produced more milk in winter but not in summer, possibly because of underfeeding high-yielding cows on low-input pasture-based diets. Cows with more Original Braunvieh genetics produced milk with higher concentrations of (i) nutritionally desirable <em>trans</em>-9 palmitoleic, eicosapentaenoic and docosapentaenoic acids, throughout the year, and (ii) vaccenic and α-linolenic acids, total omega-3 fatty acids concentrations and a higher omega-3/omega-6 ratio during the summer-grazing period only. This suggests that overall milk quality could be improved by re-focusing breeding strategies on the cows’ ability to respond to local dietary environments and seasonal changes in feeding regimes.</p>

METHICILLIN-RESISTANT STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS AND ITS DETERMINANTS OF RAW COW MILK CONTAMINATION IN SELECTED GAMO ZONE DISTRICT OF SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA

<p>We conducted this study, titled &quot;Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aurous and its Determinants of Raw Cow Milk Contamination in a Selected Gamo Zone District of Southern Ethiopia,&quot; in order to disseminate our findings to the scientific community. The research has its own strengths, such as the work we did on milk quality and potential milk borne pathogens, as well as the determinants of contamination at the selling point, which is only on fresh milk after it has been checked for freshness. As a result, the authors initiated this research based on practical challenges encountered while providing professional support to various producers in the milk selling point. Because of the irrational use of antibiotics among human and animal health in the study area, this research aimed to estimate the microbial load, prevalence of methicillin resistant <em>S. aurous</em> (MRSA), and determinants of raw cow milk contamination at selling points. This could be a source of drug resistance development in Ethiopia and in the study area in particular. Furthermore, due to resource constraints, the study focuses on bacteriological analysis, risk factor association, and drug sensitivity testing, which can serve as baseline data for future characterization and intervention. Data are found under the Data tab, and the variable coding information under the Code tab.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The data are for the concentrations of lactoferrin in mothers&#39; milk and reported illnesses among 83 mother-infant dyads in Ariaal communities of northern Kenya. This is a subset of data on milk lactoferrin, characterized in the Biomarker Laboratory for Anthropological Research at Michigan State University in 2019, using cryogenically archived milk specimens.
