Mappings for "Developing a Scalable Annotation Method for Large Datasets That Enhances Alarms With Actionability Data to Increase Informativeness: Mixed Methods Approach"
<p>Studies identified false and non-actionnable alarms as a factor for alarm fatigue in intensive care units.</p> <p>To annotate patient alarms, and analyse the alarm situation in intensive care units, we conceptualized and performed data mappings related to airway management and medication interventions. The mappings were based on information retrieved from the patient data management system (PDMS) and clinical expertise. For the airway management mappings, we used additional resources such as ISO 19223:2019 or ventilator instruction manuals. The mappings do not include patient data.</p> <p>As the mappings are generic, they could be used in other contexts than alarm annotation and research.</p> <p><strong>1. Data from “A Mixed Method Approach to Understanding the Public Health Impact of a School-Based Citizen Science Program to Reduce Arsenic in Private Well Water”
Objectives We have approached the problem of low well water testing rates in Maine and New Hampshire communities by developing the All About Arsenic (AAA) project, which engages secondary school teachers and students as citizen scientists in collecting well water samples for analysis of arsenic and other toxic metals and supports their outreach efforts to their communities. Methods We assessed this project’s public health impact by analyzing student data relative to existing well water quality datasets in both states. In addition, we surveyed private well owners who contributed well water samples to the project to determine the actions taken to mitigate arsenic in well water. A decade of Semantic Web research through the lenses of a mixed methods approach (Resources)
<p>This work has been submitted to <a href="http://www.semantic-web-journal.net/content/decade-semantic-web-research-through-lenses-mixed-methods-approach">Semantic Web Journal</a>. We provide here resources to reproduce our approach.</p> <p>In this paper, we aim to provide a broader and more complete picture of Semantic Web topics and trends by adopting a mixed methods methodology, which allows a combined use of both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Concretely, we build on a qualitative analysis of the main seminal papers, which adopt a top-down approach, and on quantitative results derived with three bottom-up data-driven approaches (<a href="https://technologies.kmi.open.ac.uk/Rexplore/">Rexplore</a>, <a href="http://saffron.insight-centre.org/">Saffron</a>, <a href="https://www.poolparty.biz/">PoolParty</a>), on a corpus of Semantic Web papers published in the last decade. Dataset from: Reporting of patient involvement: A mixed-methods analysis of current practice in health research publications
<p>This record includes the data associated with the study "Reporting of patient involvement: A mixed-methods analysis of current practice in health research publications". In this study, we evaluated the extent and quality of patient involvement reporting in examples of current practice in health research. We used a targeted search strategy to identify publications that report on patient involvement using the following three samples:</p> <ul> <li>Publications published in 2019 in <em>The BMJ, </em>which requires reporting on patient involvement in research articles</li> <li>Publications listed in the PCORI database. We filtered for topic: example of engagement in health research; stakeholder involvement: patients; year: 2019</li> <li>Publications citing the <a href="https://www.bmj.com/content/358/bmj.j3453">GRIPP2 reporting checklist</a> or a <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1369-7625.2010.00607.x">critical appraisal guideline to assess the quality and impact of user involvement in research</a></li> </ul> <p>After applying our inclusion and exclusion criteria, the final sample consisted of 87 publications that reported on patient involvement. Among the files are web survey questions, anonymised survey results, and interview guidelines. A mixed-methods study conducted by EURIPA.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>Abstract</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>Background</span></strong></p> <p><span>The role of primary care during a pandemic varies across European countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has altered the working practices of family medicine doctors. It has also impacted the resilience of health systems.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Objectives</span></strong><span> </span></p> <p><span>This study aimed to examine European health system responses to the pandemic, focusing on rural and urban differences.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Material and methods</span></strong></p> <p><span>This cross-sectional, mixed-methods study used a semi-structured online questionnaire with 68 questions, including 21 free-text comments. Data were collected from May 2020 to January 2021. Key informants from sixteen EURIPA member countries distributed questionnaires to 406 primary care doctors. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests (Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U) with a significance threshold of 0.05. </span></p> <p><strong><span>Results</span></strong></p> <p><span>A statistically significant difference was found between rural (36.4%, 55/151), semirural (19.4%, 24/124), and urban populations (29.8%, 39/131) regarding medicine shortages (χ² = 9.91, df = 4, p = 0.042). <span> </span>The semirural one proved to have a statistically significant difference with the other settings(chi-square post-hoc test, p = 0.004 in post-hoc chi-square test). Significant differences were found between countries in resilience features including, Effectiveness of triage, Adapting to the rapidly changing requirements, Government help, Existence of a community resilience group, Improved interprofessional collaboration, Medicine Shortage and GPs involved in palliative care.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Conclusions</span></strong></p> <p><span>Medicine shortage was more prevalent in rural and urban areas compared to semirural ones. Differences were observed between countries in their responses to the pandemic, particularly in Adapting to the rapidly changing requirements, Effectiveness of triage, Government help, Existence of a Community resilience group. Qualitative analysis confirmed these disparities.</span></p> <p><span>The results emphasize the need for tailored approaches considering diverse contexts in shaping effective health system resilience.</span></p>

Factors influencing the sustainability of homestead vegetable production intervention in Rufiji, Tanzania: A cross-sectional mixed methods study
<p><strong>Background </strong></p> <p>There is growing evidence that home vegetable gardening interventions improve food security and nutrition outcomes at the family level. This study assessed factors influencing the sustainability of homestead vegetable production intervention, one year after the cessation of external support.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong></p> <p>This was a cross-sectional study using both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A total of 247 randomly selected households that participated in the homestead vegetable intervention were interviewed using a structured questionnaire. The study held four focus group discussions with households that participated in the intervention, and four In-Depth interviews with two extension workers, one community health worker, and one agriculture district officer. Multiple logistic regression for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data was conducted.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong></p> <p>About 20.24% (50/247) of households sustained homestead vegetable production for one year after the intervention phased out. Lack of seeds (adjusted OR=1.26: CI=0.39-0.89) and either manure or fertilizers (adjusted OR=1.69: CI =1.08-2.63) were significant factors influencing the sustainability of homesteads vegetable production. In the Focus Group discussions (FGDs) and In-Depth Interview (IDIs), all participating women and extension workers reported high cost of water, destruction from free-grazing animals, agriculture pests and diseases, poor soil fertility, shortage of seeds, and lack of capital affected homestead vegetable production sustainability.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p> <p>Existing individual, community, and system challenges influence the sustainability of external-funded agriculture and nutrition interventions. The study findings underscore the importance of community authorities, scientists, and policymakers in having a well-thought sustainability plan in all promising external-funded interventions.</p>

Intervention fidelity and factors affecting the process of a mobile phone text messaging intervention among adolescents living with HIV: A convergent mixed methods study in southern Ethiopia
<p><em>Objective:</em> To assess the intervention fidelity and explore contextual factors affecting the process of a mobile phone text messaging intervention in improving adherence to and retention in care among adolescents living with HIV, their families, and their healthcare providers in southern Ethiopia.</p> <p><em>Design:</em> A convergent mixed-methods design guided by the process evaluation theoretical framework and the RE-AIM framework was used alongside a randomised controlled trial to examine the fidelity and explore the experiences of participants in the intervention.</p> <p><em>Setting:</em> Six hospitals and five health centres providing HIV treatment and care to adolescents in five zones in southern Ethiopia. Participants: adolescents (aged 10–19), their families and their healthcare providers.</p> <p><em>Intervention:</em> Mobile phone text messages daily for 6 months or standard care (control). Results: 306 participants were enrolled in the process evaluation. Among the intervention participants (N =153), 171 (55.9%) of whom were men, most resided in an urban area 225 (73.5%), and participants had a mean age of 15 (2.62). The overall experiences of implementing the text messages reminder intervention were described as helpful in terms of treatment support for adherence but had room for improvement. During the study, 30,700 text messages were sent, and fidelity was high, with 99.4% successfully receiving text messages during the intervention. Barriers such as failed text messages delivery, limitations in phone ownership, and technical limitations affected fidelity. Technical challenges can hinder maintenance, but a belief in the future of digital communication permeates the experiences of the text messages reminders.</p> <p><em>Conclusions: </em>Overall fidelity was high, and participants' overall experiences of mobile phone text messages were expressed as helpful. Contextual factors, such as local telecommunications networks and local electric power, as well as technical and individual factors must be considered when planning future interventions.</p>

Data from: A real data-driven simulation strategy to select an imputation method for mixed-type trait data
<p>Missing observations in trait datasets pose an obstacle for analyses in myriad biological disciplines. Considering the mixed results of imputation, the wide variety of available methods, and the varied structure of real trait datasets, a framework for selecting a suitable imputation method is advantageous. We invoked a real data-driven simulation strategy to select an imputation method for a given mixed-type (categorical, count, continuous) target dataset. Candidate methods included mean/mode imputation, k-nearest neighbour, random forests, and multivariate imputation by chained equations (MICE). Using a trait dataset of squamates (lizards and amphisbaenians; order: Squamata) as a target dataset, a complete-case dataset consisting of species with nearly completed information was formed for the imputation method selection. Missing data were induced by removing values from this dataset under different missingness mechanisms: missing completely at random (MCAR), missing at random (MAR), and missing not at random (MNAR). For each method, combinations with and without phylogenetic information from single gene (nuclear and mitochondrial) or multigene trees were used to impute the missing values for five numerical and two categorical traits. The performances of the methods were evaluated under each missing mechanism by determining the mean squared error and proportion falsely classified rates for numerical and categorical traits, respectively. A random forest method supplemented with a nuclear-derived phylogeny resulted in the lowest error rates for the majority of traits, and this method was used to impute missing values in the original dataset. Data with imputed values better reflected the characteristics and distributions of the original data compared to complete-case data. However, caution should be taken when imputing trait data as phylogeny did not always improve performance for every trait and in every scenario. Ultimately, these results support the use of a real data-driven simulation strategy for selecting a suitable imputation method for a given mixed-type trait dataset.</p>
