Soil nitrogen availability vs. acidification: effects on soil respiration, heterotrophic respiration, and soil physicochemical properties in mixed temperate forests in central New York, USA (2019-2022)
In 2011, an experimental nitrogen x pH manipulation study was initiated in mixed temperate forests in central New York, USA to disentangle the often-confounded roles of nitrogen (N) and soil pH in driving various ecosystem processes. This data package contains soil physicochemical properties (soil pH, resin available nitrogen), soil temperature, in situ soil respiration, and heterotrophic respiration measured from laboratory incubations of soils collected from experimental plots. Soil pH was measured both pre-treatment (2009-2010) and after 8 and 11 years of experimental treatment. All other properties were measured between 9 and 12 years after treatment initiation.
Eradication via destratification: whole-lake mixing to selectively remove rainbow smelt, a cold-water invasive species.
Rainbow smelt (Osmerus mordax) are an invasive species associated with several negative changes to lake ecosystems in northern Wisconsin. We combined empirically based bioenergetics models with empirically based hydrodynamic models to assess lake destratification as a potential rainbow smelt eradication method. The dataset reported here is the otolith data from 20 age 1plus individuals.
Mappings for "Developing a Scalable Annotation Method for Large Datasets That Enhances Alarms With Actionability Data to Increase Informativeness: Mixed Methods Approach"
<p>Studies identified false and non-actionnable alarms as a factor for alarm fatigue in intensive care units.</p> <p>To annotate patient alarms, and analyse the alarm situation in intensive care units, we conceptualized and performed data mappings related to airway management and medication interventions. The mappings were based on information retrieved from the patient data management system (PDMS) and clinical expertise. For the airway management mappings, we used additional resources such as ISO 19223:2019 or ventilator instruction manuals. The mappings do not include patient data.</p> <p>As the mappings are generic, they could be used in other contexts than alarm annotation and research.</p> <p><strong>1. Pre- and post-fire vegetation and fuel loading data from mixed conifer plots in Arizona and New Mexico: 2010-2023
A permanent plot network was installed in mixed conifer stands across the U.S. Southwest (Arizona and New Mexico) between 2010-2013, primarily to monitor the spread and severity of white pine blister rust (WPBR), a disease caused by the fungal pathogen Cronartium ribicola on southwestern white pine (Pinus strobiformis). Study sites were mid-to-high elevation mixed conifer stands composed of southwestern white pine, Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), white fir (Abies concolor), ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa), quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides), Gambel oak (Quercus gambelii), blue spruce (Picea pungens), Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii), corkbark fir (Abies latifolia var. arizonica), Rocky Mountain bristlecone pine (Pinus aristata), and New Mexico locust (Robinia neomexicana). After plot installation, 6 fires occurred in the study area, burning an estimated total of 489,390 acres and 30 plots. We remeasured plots at 1-, 5- and 10-year intervals post-fire, quantifying burn severity via a composite burn index (CBI) at the first year post-fire. We also assessed regeneration, overstory mortality, and fuel loading. Overstory variables collected included tree species, status, diameter at breast height (DBH), and mortality, as well as height, height to live crown base, strata, and crown class on a subset of trees. Understory trees were tallied by species. Fuel load was measured via transect and calculated in megagrams per hectare categorically based on fuel type. Other variables such as basal area and trees per hectare were derived and calculated. This dataset was utilized in the manuscript "Climate, fire, and the future of mixed conifer ecosystems in the U.S. Southwest" (currently in review), and R code used for analyses is included in the dataset.
Data for: Techno-economic and environmental assessment of converting mixed prairie to renewable natural gas with co-product hydroxycinnamic acid, Iowa, USA, 2022-2023.
This dataset compiles model outputs, parameter sets, and documentation supporting a techno‑economic analysis (TEA) and life‑cycle assessment (LCA) of co‑digesting beef cattle manure with pretreated mixed prairie biomass to produce renewable natural gas (RNG), with hydroxycinnamic acids (HCA) and digestate‑derived biochar co‑products. It accompanies the study by Katherine Wild, Elmin Rahic, Lisa A Schulte Moore, and Mark Mba Wright "Techno-economic and environmental assessment of converting mixed prairie to renewable natural gas with co-product hydroxycinnamic acid," in Biofuels, Bioproducts, & Biorefining, 2024 (https://doi.org/10.1002/bbb.2710). The integrated simulation and assessment framework quantifies process performance, economics, and greenhouse‑gas intensity across five scenarios representing combinations of alkaline‑ethanol pretreatment for HCA extraction, liquid recirculation fractions, and biochar addition. This data collection includes: stream‑level mass flow/composition tables for each scenario; RNG, biochar, and HCA annual production summaries; literature‑based methane/biogas yield benchmarks; equipment‑level capital costs; TEA assumptions; emission‑factor inventories and displacement credits; and full sensitivity/uncertainty matrices for MFSP and GWP.

In 2011, an experimental nitrogen x pH manipulation study was initiated in mid- and late-successional mixed temperate forests in central New York, USA to disentangle the often-confounded roles of nitrogen (N) and soil pH in driving various ecosystem processes. This data package contains forest productivity (wood, litterfall, and aboveground net primary production), total belowground carbon flux (TBCF), and leaf litterfall and fine root chemistry (C and N concentration) data collected from all experimental plots. It also includes plot-level, species-weighted estimates of measured and modeled photosynthesis (Anet) for the late-successional stands. Wood production, litterfall production, and litterfall chemistry data were collected between 2009 and 2019. Aboveground net primary production data are reported for a pre-treatment interval (2009-2011) and the interval including years 6-9 of experimental treatment (2016-2019). All other properties were measured between years 9 and 11 of the experiment (2019-2021).

Corpus Creation for Sentiment Analysis in Code-Mixed Tamil-English Text
<p>Understanding the sentiment of a comment from a video or an image is an essential task in many applications. Sentiment analysis of a text can be useful for various decision-making processes. One such application is to analyse the popular sentiments of videos on social media based on viewer comments. However, comments from social media do not follow strict rules of grammar, and they contain mixing of more than one language, often written in non-native scripts. Non-availability of annotated code-mixed data for a low-resourced language like Tamil also adds difficulty to this problem. To overcome this, we created a gold standard Tamil-English code-switched, sentiment-annotated corpus containing 15,744 comment posts from YouTube. In this paper, we describe the process of creating the corpus and assigning polarities. We present inter-annotator agreement and show the results of sentiment analysis trained on this corpus as a benchmark.</p>
A Sentiment Analysis Dataset for Code-Mixed Malayalam-English
<p>There is an increasing demand for sentiment analysis of text from social media which are mostly code-mixed. Systems trained on monolingual data fail for code-mixed data due to the complexity of mixing at different levels of the text. However, very few resources are available for code-mixed data to create models specific for this data. Although much research in multilingual and cross-lingual sentiment analysis has used semi-supervised or unsupervised methods, supervised methods still performs better. Only a few datasets for popular languages such as English-Spanish, English-Hindi, and English-Chinese are available. There are no resources available for Malayalam-English code-mixed data. This paper presents a new gold standard corpus for sentiment analysis of code-mixed text in Malayalam-English annotated by voluntary annotators. This gold standard corpus obtained a Krippendorff’s alpha above 0.8 for the dataset. We use this new corpus to provide the benchmark for sentiment analysis in Malayalam-English code-mixed texts.</p>

Mixed DG-FEM for the Darcy-Brinkman-Stokes model: supplementary simulation data
<p>This dataset contains simulation results used in the publication<em> "Stable across regimes: A mixed DG method for Darcy-Brinkman-Stokes type flows"</em>. Detailed descriptions of the individual cases can be found in the paper.</p> <p>The simulation outputs are enriched with the respective inputs used to set up the finite element simulations. Setups include definition of the mesh (sizes), material and numerical parameters. Setups are given as Python for scripted inputs (e.g. function definitions) and human-readable <em>.yaml</em> files for simple parameters. <br><br>Simulation outputs are written in paraview .vtk and .vtu files, which are contained in the <em>outputs/MODEL_NAME/paraview</em> folder of the respective simulation. <em>MODEL_NAME</em> corresponds to the model. See also the <em>readme.md.</em></p> <p>The additional folder <em>figure_collection</em> contains the raw result plots from the publication, along with the respective simulation inputs used to obtain the figure.</p>
Isoprene mixing ratio in ambient air across the Southern Ocean in the austral summer of 2016/2017, during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE).
<p><strong>Dataset abstract</strong></p> <p>This dataset contains the mixing ratios of isoprene (C5H8) in ambient air measured during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition around the Southern Ocean in the austral summer of 2016/2017 using the iDirac, an autonomous gas chromatograph (Bolas et al., 2020). Samples were collected at a temporal resolution of approximately 10 minutes, with sizeable gaps in the dataset during Legs 1 and 3 due to instrument malfunction.</p> <p>Isoprene represents one of the largest biogenic emissions on the planet. While the magnitude and mechanism of its emissions on land are well established, there is still large uncertainty on the drivers of marine isoprene emissions. PMMA Mixed mode fracture
<p>This is a complete dataset of a mixed mode crack propagation experiment on PMMA. In addition to global load and displacement measurements, full displacement fields obtained by DIC are provided. DIC was also used to extract SIF and crack tip position during loading, allowing for validation of computational failure models.</p> <p>The file PMMA_Mixed_mode_fracture.pdf provides for a detailed description of the experiment as well as of the data available on this platform.</p>
Image sets used in the development of a connected auto-encoders based approach to separate mixed X-radiographs from double-sided paintings
<p>The following sets of images were used during the development of an algorithm (described in the publication detailed below) designed to separate the mixed X-radiographs from double-sided paintings into two hypothetical X-ray images corresponding to each side of the painting, when visible images of the two sides of the painting are available.</p> <p>The images sets are taken from a painting that is only painted on one side and were used to assess the regularization parameters associated with the separation approach. The details are taken from the visible image and the X-radiograph of Anthony van Dyck’s painting <em>Lady Elizabeth Thimbelby and Dorothy, Viscountess Andover</em> dated to about 1635 and now in the collection of the National Gallery in London (NG6437).
