Canterbury Museum (CMNZ) collection insect specimen-plant flower interactions
<p>This dataset compromises insect-plant flower interactions recorded from the entomology collections of Canterbury Museum, New Zealand (CMNZ). All invertebrate records were extracted from the Museum Vernon database. This included field collection metadata indicating if an insect and plant flower interaction had occurred. A large proportion of records are specimens collected as part of research by Richard Primack in the 1970s, from insects collected from flowering inflorences. Data was cleaned using OpenRefine v.3.6.2. Insect and plant names were reconciled using the GlobalNames extension in OpenRefine. Data was prepared for submission to the Global Biotic Interaction (GloBI) network.</p> <p>This data makes part of a paper submission to the Journal of Applied Entolomolgy Call for Papers on neglected insects pollinators. If accepted this publication will be linked to this dataset.</p> <p>This version included name updates for insect species, spreadsheet data used to produce summary statistics for the manuscript submission and the README file.</p>

MALDI-TOF-MS spectra of historical whale skeletons from the Museum of Zoology, Strasbourg
<p>Spectra data from historical whale skeletons from the Museum. Samples were acid demineralized followed by gelatinization, digestion with trypsin, and peptide purification on C18 filters. They were run on on Bruker autoflex MALDI-TOF-MS. Mzml file formats for the raw data are provided here along with a file information csv file which provides the identification of the samples.<br> <br> For more information see the associated publciation.</p>

Museum Webpages Performance Dataset | Ver 1
<p>This dataset thoroughly evaluates the web performance metrics for 234 museums worldwide. It includes 23 variables that assess technical performance, usability, and organizational details. The dataset contains information such as the organization’s name, domain, country, physical address, and the type of content management system (CMS) utilized. Performance metrics are available for both mobile and desktop platforms, addressing accessibility compliance, adherence to best practices, and search engine optimization (SEO). Specific metrics for mobile and desktop speed performance include First Contentful Paint (FCP), Total Blocking Time (TBT), Speed Index, Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS).</p> <p>Data collection was conducted using PageSpeed Insights. The CMS employed by each organization was identified through the WhatCMS tool. This dataset serves as a useful resource for researchers, web developers, and cultural institutions seeking to enhance digital inclusivity, optimize website performance, and benchmark their digital presence against global standards. It also provides a solid foundation for studying web optimization, accessibility, and the broader digital transformation of cultural heritage institutions.<br><br>It is noted that information regarding dataset's authors has been erased as the dataset is used in a research paper submitted to <em>Metrics </em>for peer review evaluation and potential publication<em>. </em></p>
The Natural History Museum's collection of Dalbergia, Pterocarpus and the Phaseolinae subtribe
<p>In 2018 the Natural History Museum (NHMUK, herbarium code: BM) undertook a pilot digitisation project together with the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (project Lead) and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh to collectively digitise non-type herbarium material of the subtribe <em>Phaseolinae</em> and the genera <em>Dalbergia </em>L.f. and <em>Pterocarpus</em> Jacq. (rosewoods and padauk), all from the economically important family of legumes (<em>Leguminosae</em> or <em>Fabaceae</em>). </p> <p>These taxonomic groups were chosen for two case studies using the herbarium collections to support the aims of the UK’s Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA)-allocated, Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding: study 1 - to support the development of dry beans as a sustainable and resilient crop; study 2 - to aid conservation and sustainable use of rosewoods and padauk.</p> <p>We present the images and metadata for 11,222 NHMUK specimens. This includes label transcription and georeferencing, along with summary data on geographic, taxonomic, collector and temporal coverage. We also provide timings and the methodology for our transcription and georeferencing protocols. Approximately 35% of specimens digitised were collected in ODA-listed countries, in tropical Africa, but also in south east Asia and South America.</p>
