Tropical Pacific SST and wind anomalies generated by a Nonlinear Inverse Model
<p>Tropical Pacific (40S-40N; 120E-50W) sea surface temperature (SST), zonal wind (U) and meridional wind (V) anomalies generated by the Nonlinear Inverse Model described in Martinez-Villalobos et al., 2024 (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41612-024-00675-5). The data consists in 99 realizations (<a href="../api/records/10411023/draft/files/NLIM_output_085.nc/content" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">NLIM_output_XXX.nc</a>) of 1,000yrs each emulating SST, U, and V monthly anomalies conditions during 1980-2020 (<a href="../api/records/10411023/draft/files/Monthly_obs_1980_2020.nc/content" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Monthly_obs_1980_2020.nc</a>) given in a 2.5deg-2.5deg grid. For observations, we used the NOAA Extended Reconstruction SST v5 reanalysis (SST; Huang et al., 2017) and NCEP-NCAR reanalysis (winds; Kalnay et al., 1996) The observed anomalies are calculated as described in Martinez-Villalobos et al., 2024 (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41612-024-00675-5).</p> <p>Given that the stochastic forcing considered is white in time and space (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41612-024-00675-5; Methods, section "Offline simulation of SSH_{12}, PC2, and spatial patterns fron nonlinear inverse model output"), the spatial patterns and lead-lag relationships are better identified using composites. Energy Harvesting Using a Nonlinear Resonator with Asymmetric Potential Wells
<p><strong>This repository contains</strong> the results of numerical simulations of a nonlinear bistable system for harvesting energy from ambient vibrating mechanical sources. Detailed model tests were carried out on an inertial energy harvesting system consisting of a piezoelectric beam with additional springs attached. The mathematical model was derived using the bond graph approach. Depending on the spring selection, the shape of the bistable potential wells was modified including the removal of wells’ degeneration. Consequently, the broken mirror symmetry between the potential wells led to additional solutions with corresponding voltage responses. The probability of occurrence for different high voltage/large orbit solutions with changes in potential symmetry was investigated. In particular, the periodicity of different solutions with respect to the harmonic excitation period were studied and compared in terms of the voltage output. The results showed that a large orbit period-6 subharmonic solution could be stabilized while some higher subharmonic solutions disappeared with the increasing asymmetry of potential wells. Changes in frequency ranges were also observed for chaotic solutions.</p>

Adaptive Nonlinear Control For Perching of a Bioinspired Ornithopter
<p>This dataset contains the flight data recorded by the onboard flight computer for perching experiments. During the experiments nonlinear guidance and control laws are used for trajectory tracking. The filght computer is designed around the NanoPi Neo Air. A custom made PCB attached to the NanoPi, and acts as a carrier for an STM32 microcontroller. The microcontroller regulates the servos via a PWM signal. At the same time, the flight computer connects with an Optitrack motion capture system. The Optitrack emits data at 120 Hz to a local network using a VRPN protocol. This data is recorded by the flight computer, used for state estimation, and the control is executed at 100 Hz.</p>
Storage enhanced nonlinearities in a cold atomic Rydberg ensemble: experimental data
<p>The data show number of input/output photons under different conditions when coherent pulses of light undergo electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a cold cloud of Rubidium 87 atoms via a ladder system connecting the ground state of 87-Rubidium and different Rydberg levels via (see more details in Distante et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. <strong>117</strong>, 113001 (2016) or in the preprint https://arxiv.org/abs/1605.07478)</p> <p>This is the pre-analysed data from which the results in the paper are derived.</p> <p> </p> <ul> <li>The ODS file contains different sheets which correspond to Rydberg states with different principal quantum numbers</li> <li>The PDF contains useful information regarding the conditions of the experiment under which the data was obtained, such as the optical depth (OD) of the cloud, its dimensions, and the Rabi frequency of the coupling beam.</li> </ul>
New insights into the generalized Rutherford equation for nonlinear neoclassical tearing mode growth from 2D reduced MHD simulations
<p>Two dimensional reduced MHD simulations of neoclassical tearing mode growth and suppression by ECCD are performed. The perturbation of the bootstrap current density and the EC drive current density perturbation are assumed to be functions of the perturbed flux surfaces. In the case of ECCD, this implies that the applied power is flux surface averaged to obtain the EC driven current density distribution. The results are consistent with predictions from the generalized Rutherford equation using common expressions for $\Delta^\prime_{\rm bs}$ and $\Delta^\prime_{\rm ECCD}$. These expressions are commonly perceived to describe only the effect on the tearing mode growth of the helical component of the respective current perturbation acting through the modification of Ohm's law. Our results show that they describe in addition the effect of the poloidally averaged current density perturbation which acts through modification of the tearing mode stability index. Except for modulated ECCD, the largest contribution to the mode growth comes from this poloidally averaged current density perturbation.</p>

<p>This folder contains the raw data and analysis coded need to reproduce all of the major results in the manuscript "Experimental Higher-Order Interference in a Nonlinear Triple Slit". </p> <p>The folder "matlab" contains the data and code used to produce all of the main data figures in the paper. The various script load the data, and plots the final results used in the paper. </p> <p>The folder "mathematica" contains the scripts to implement our 4-th order perturbative quantum solution. There is one script to fit to experimental data to find the effective nonlinearity, and another to generate the dependence of the different terms if kappa as a function of Z. The result is plotted in the matlab script found in the directory "matlab\quantum"</p>

Data for: Nonlinear dynamics of the near-shore boundary layer of a large lake (Lake Geneva)
<p>We examined near-shore and pelagic current variability in Lake Geneva, a large and deep lake in western Europe, using observations from several measurement locations and a three dimensional numerical model, based on the period 2014–2016. The data include measurements from Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) campaigns and vertical temperature profiles along with the corresponding modelling results. The model used in this study is based on the MIT General Circulation Model (MITgcm, <a href="http://mitgcm.org/">http://mitgcm.org/</a>, <a href="https://doi.org/10.1029/96JC02775">https://doi.org/10.1029/96JC02775</a>).</p>
Experimental datasets of networks of nonlinear oscillators: Structure and dynamics during the path to synchronization
<p>The analysis of the interplay between structural and functional networks require experiments where both the specific structure of the connections between nodes and the time series of the underlying dynamical units are known at the same time. However, real datasets typically contain only one of the two ways (structural or functional) a network can be observed. Here, we provide experimental recordings of the dynamics of 28 nonlinear electronic circuits coupled in 20 different network configurations. For each network, we modify the coupling strength between circuits, going from an incoherent state of the system to a complete synchronization scenario. Time series containing 30000 points are recorded using a data-acquisition card capturing the analogic output of each circuit. The experiment is repeated three times for each network structure allowing to track the path to the synchronized state both at the level of the nodes (with its direct neighbors) and at the whole network. These datasets can be useful to test new metrics to evaluate the coordination between dynamical systems and to investigate to what extent the coupling strength is related to the correlation between functional and structural networks.</p> <p>We provide the times series of N=28 Rössler electronic oscillators for 20 different network configurations (compressed file with tag R1 to R20). For each network structure, we recorded the times series for 101 different coupling strengths between oscillators. Each one of the 101 corresponding files is labeled as ST_X_Y.dat where X is a value between X=0 and X=100 that corresponds, respectively, to the minimum and maximum coupling strength. The value of Y corresponds to the repetition number, which can be 1, 2 of 3 (i.e., we repeated the same experiment three times). Data files contain the second variable of the 28 nodes arranged in columns with a length of 30000 points. In a second file named Structure.zip, all the network structures are given, each file having a name Net_R.dat, where R=1, 2… 20. The degree of each node (i.e., number of output connections) is the same for all network configurations, where the specific neighbors of each node are re-arranged randomly.</p>
Experimental data for nonlinear dynamics and energy harvesting of bistable cantilever shells (grant 2021/41/B/ST8/03190 from the National Science Centre, Poland)
<p>An experimental tests on a cantilever composite bistable shell with a piezoelectric patch is reported. The shell is characterized by two stable configurations. Periodic force is applied at the shell’s clamped side through an electrodynamic shaker and the dynamic response is measured through an embedded strain gauge. Selected dynamic regimes are recorded by performing excitation frequency and amplitude sweeps. The resonance scenarios around the two natural frequencies corresponding to the stable configurations show different softening behavior. The excitation amplitude threshold level for snap-through motion is identified. The thested thin-walled pseudo-conical shell has been made of carbon-epoxy composite prepreg tape (AS4-GP-12K_40gsm-<br>300mm-ThinPreg135EP). The composite single layer is characterized by unidirectional reinforcement, thickness 0.04 mm. The manufacturing standard samples for strength tests in the autoclave process reduces to about 0.038 mm. </p>

Impact of nonlinear hydrodynamic modelling on geometric optimisation of a spherical heaving point absorber
<p>Due to the amount of iterative computation involved, researchers involved in geometric optimisation of wave energy devices typically employ linear hydrodynamic models. However, the exaggerated motion of wave energy devices, aided by energy maximising control action, challenges the assumptions upon which linear hydrodynamic modelling relies. Furthermore, the optimal device geometry is also sensitive to the nature of the energy-maximisation controller employed, and to the set of wave conditions over which the optimisation is carried out.<br> <br> In order to focus on the essential issues, this study takes the simplest possible device for optimisation, a heaving sphere (with just one free parameter), but one which exhibits nonlinear hydrodynamic characteristics, due to the non-uniform cross-sectional area. The study examines the sensitivity to the inclusion of nonlinear Froude-Krylov forces. In addition, the sensitivity of the optimal device size to differences in the applied control algorithm is also studied, as are effects due to different representative sea state representations and performance evaluation criteria.</p>

<pre>This dataset gathers all cross-spectral, spectral and bispectral data produced and used in the manuscript accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters: "New Perspectives for Nonlinear Depth-inversion of the Nearshore Using Boussinesq Theory", by K. Martins, P. Bonneton, O. de Viron, I. L. Turner, M. D. Harley and K. Splinter The sharing of the processed data is motivated by research reproductibility purposes and with the hope that it will foster efforts in improving the newly-proposed depth-inversion procedure. Three laboratory experiments are considered, namely the experiments reported in van Noorloos (2003), Michallet et al. (2011) and GLOBEX (e.g., see Ruessink et al., 2013). The processed data is organised in separate self-explanatory .mat files (generated with MATLAB software), gathering: - "cel_data" : wave phase velocities obtained from cross-spectral and cross-correlation analyses between adjacent wave gauges - "bulk_data" : range of bulk wave parameters computed across the different wave flumes - "bispectrum_data" : spectral and bispectral estimates computed across the different wave flumes The scripts for performing the depth-inversion as well as a for plotting the results are provided. The new Boussinesq depth-inversion procedure relies on the function "fun_compute_krms_terms.m", which is provided and originates from the bispectral analysis library accessible from the first author GitHub repository at https://github.com/ke-martins/bispectral-analysis.
