Dataset of "Spinel Glass Fibers for Application in Solid-State Batteries"

All-solid-state batteries are currently considered one of the most reliable battery systems, as they are nonflammable and do not form dendrites during the charging cycle, unlike liquid electrolyte batteries. Additionally, they are expected to offer higher energy density compared to current batteries. This work focuses on the preparation of a material that could serve as a cathode in all-solid-state batteries. The cathode material was obtained from end-of-life batteries, which enabled its reuse, and was used as a filler in glassy nano/micro-fibers prepared by electrospinning. Using the material in the form of nano/micro-fibers is expected to shorten the diffusion lengths of lithium ions, increase capacity, and improve the flexibility and stability of the material during cycling.

Titanium Alloys Database for Medical Applications

The new 2.0 version (12.7.2023) includes the following modifications: 247 biocompatible Ti alloys; the table shows only literature data; a Jupyter notebook provides the calculated data.

In this database, 238 titanium alloys were collected, almost entirely of biocompatible alloying elements. The primary motivation behind creating such a database is to establish a foundation for designing new alloys using machine learning methods. The database can assist researchers, engineers, and biomedical professionals in developing titanium alloys for various medical applications, thereby improving health outcomes and driving advancements in biomaterials and biomedical engineering.

For more information read the paper at: https://doi.org/10.30544/MMD5

NOTE: To avoid misunderstandings, please cite both the database and the published article when citing this database.

We invite other authors to contribute to the updating of this database (send at least 20 new alloys to appear as co-author)

Efficacy and fate of fluridone applications for control of invasive submersed aquatic vegetation in the estuarine environment of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta

We conducted a study in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to determine efficacy of the widely used herbicide fluridone in an estuarine ecosystem. The primary goal of SAV removal was restoration of open water habitat for endangered Hypomesus transpacificus (Delta Smelt). Over 18 months and multiple sets of multi-week fluridone applications, we monitored concentrations of fluridone and responses by SAV across pairs of treated and reference sites. Fluridone concentrations in the water were generally below the 2-5 parts per billion required for SAV control. Monitoring demonstrated these low water concentrations were likely due to dissipation by tides, despite use of pelleted fluridone formulations marketed for flowing water environments. Fluridone did, however, accumulate in sediment at concentrations hundreds of times higher than those measured in the water. Nonetheless, we did not observe lasting reductions in SAV abundance or changes in SAV community composition. By demonstrating lack of efficacy of one of the few herbicides permitted for use in this estuary, this study highlights the need for development of SAV management tools tailored to the challenges of hydrologically complex environments like estuaries.

Soil organic carbon and nutrient dynamics in response to anaerobic digestate application to farm fields, Eastern Iowa, 2011-2023

This dataset documents a long-term, field-scale study of anaerobic digestate application on commercial croplands in eastern Iowa, USA. It includes detailed records of digestate composition, application rates, and timing, as well as soil test results collected over a 12-year period (2011–2023) from 14 agricultural fields. The dataset supports analysis of soil organic carbon (SOC), nutrient dynamics, and isotopic composition in response to digestate inputs. It contains 421 georeferenced soil samples, digestate nutrient profiles, field management histories, and spatial boundaries. The data were collected as part of a collaborative effort between researchers at Iowa State University and Sievers Family Farms to evaluate the agronomic and environmental implications of integrating anaerobic digestion into row crop and livestock systems.

Bioacoustic Dataset of African and Florida Manatee Vocalizations for Machine Learning Applications, 2020-2022

This data package presents a comprehensive acoustic library of manatee vocalizations for machine learning (ML) and classifier development. It includes recordings from two species, African and Florida manatees, sampled across four locations. The species are combined due to the acoustic similarity of their vocalizations, providing a diverse and representative training set for ML algorithms. The dataset consists of 0.5-second WAV clips categorized as either containing manatee vocalizations (MV, n=18,129 clips) or not (Noise, n=23,444 clips). MV clips may include multiple vocalizations or truncated calls. All clips were manually verified by two researchers with expertise in manatee acoustics. Recordings were collected using stationary hydrophones deployed in natural habitats, with variable signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) resulting from changes in distance between the vocalizing manatees and the recorders. Background noise across sites is relatively low, with minimal anthropogenic noise; caution is advised when applying models to noisier environments. No dolphin species are believed to be present at the recording sites, and models trained on this dataset should be used cautiously in dolphin-inhabited regions to avoid false positives. If you use this dataset, please reach out to the listed contacts, we are interested in learning how it supports your work.

Data for the extraction of the critical temperature of niobium films deposited on copper produced at CERN for SRF applications

Each data set contains the voltage signal amplitude induced in a pickup coil by an alternating magnetic field, crossing the niobium-film-on-copper sample during its state transition from normal conducting to superconducting, the corresponding sample temperature and the estimated errors for the two measured quantities. File columns: #1 sample temperature in Kelvin, #2 estimated temperature error, #3 voltage amplitude in pickup coil in Volt, #4 estimated amplitude error.

One data set corresponds to one sample. The critical temperature can be extracted as fit parameter by fitting the amplitude versus temperature data with a logistic function, where it corresponds to the half height of the state transition curve.
