Data Science job offers in Euraxess.

<p>It is not always easy to find job opportunities if you are interested in beginning to do research in a certain field. In this sense, having an up-to-date dataset with job offers in your field of interest would simplify this search. This dataset could be generated using web scraping methods.</p> <p>Although the web scraper we built could be applied to every field, in this project we focused in opportunities related with data science (i.e. data scientist, data analyst, data engineer...) published on&nbsp;<a href="https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/">EURAXESS</a>.</p> <p>The dataset generated with this package contains job offers obtained from EURAXESS. Each row of the dataset contains different job offers and its attributes. In the example table showed below, the dataset was obtained using &quot;Data Scientist&quot; as keyword, but another keywords would result in different datasets. Danish case study simulation results (consumption, offered & accepted flexibility, revenues & expenses)

<p>This file contains results of the simulations of the Danish case study generated during Horizon 2020 MAGNITUDE project. The case study considers the provision of domestic hot water from 350 heat pumps installed in multi-storey apartment buildings. Heat pumps receive energy from electrical grid and use heat from ultra-low temperature district heating (ULTDH) as heat source. The overall system is referred to as Multi-Energy System (MES). MES can provide flexibility to either intra-day (ID) market or redispatch (RE) services to local distribution system operator. Results show how much flexibility was offered and activated, and the resulting consumption and production profiles due to that. In addition, the revenues and expenses based on the historical prices for Denmark in 2018 had been calculated.</p>

Data from: Butterflies are not a robust bioindicator for assessing pollinator communities, but floral resources offer a promising way forward

<p>Monitoring pollinators is crucial for the evaluation of biodiversity and potential pollination services. Yet, efficiently monitoring multiple taxa over large areas can be costly. An alternative approach is using simple species bioindicators that represent the entire pollinator community. One of the requirements of a good bioindicator is that it can be easily identified to lower taxonomic levels and be sensitive to changes in habitat. This is the case for butterflies, a taxon for which many countries have a country-wide long-term monitoring scheme. We tested whether butterfly diversity can be used to predict diversity of bees and hoverflies both spatially and temporally. We surveyed 42 transects of the Dutch Butterfly Monitoring Scheme in 2020, to record species richness and abundance of butterflies, bees and hoverflies. We also recorded flower area and richness in the pollinator transects. To test whether pollinators with similar functional traits are more closely correlated than the entire pollinator community, we categorized bee and butterfly species according to their diet breadth (polyphagous vs. non-polyphagous), nitrogen-affinity (nitrophobous vs. nitrophilous larval resources) and body size. We used the same methods to test for temporal correlations over seven years for one site in Spain. Butterfly richness was not spatially correlated with bee richness (Pearson&#39;s r = 0.13), nor were the two taxa temporally correlated (Pearson&#39;s r = 0.02). Interestingly, hoverfly richness was spatially correlated with butterfly richness (Pearson&#39;s r = 0.43) and with bee richness (Pearson&#39;s r = 0.36) in the Netherlands and, hence, hoverflies might be slightly more suitable as a bioindicator of pollinator diversity in this area. Abundance of all three taxa showed no significant inter-correlation, except for correlations between diet specialist bees and butterflies (Pearson&#39;s r = 0.39). Importantly, all three taxa were strongly correlated with flower richness, but they varied in their preferences for host plant families. This is in line with 75% of the plant-pollinator studies finding significant positive relations. For monitoring schemes to be effective in informing better pollinator conservation, they should expand to include bees and hoverflies as well as simple indicators of habitat quality such as floral resources.</p>

In an initial coin offering (ICO, sometimes also called token generation event or TGE), an entrepreneur raises capital by selling a newly-minted cryptocurrency or &ldquo;utility-token&rdquo; to the public. The dataset contains detailed data for about 300 successfully completed ICOs that took place before March 2018 and raised at least 1,000,000 CHF. The database has detailed information on the ICO itself (e.g., money raised, existence of soft cap and/or hard cap, size of presale and crowdsale, magnitude of discounts for early investors, time until funding goals reached, legal form of the entity conducting the ICO), on regulatory procedures (e.g., know your customer and anti-money laundering rules respected, restrictions on sales to certain countries, token structured as simple agreement for future tokens (SAFT)) as well as on the entrepreneurs and products offered (e.g., background, country of incorporation, prototype of product / code available).&nbsp;</p>

What does Google recommend when you want to compare insurance offerings? – A method and empirical study considering Google's top search results

<p>This dataset is part of a publication and shows Google&#39;s search results for German search queries&nbsp;on insurance comparison offerings.</p> <p>Relevant search queries were extracted from a commercial search engine log file consisting of more than 640,000 different search queries.&nbsp;From the log, we extracted a variety of query formulations for the same topic, i.e., queries containing the same word or phrase. The selection was based on pre-defined keywords in the context of insurance comparisons. The queries from the log file were automatically selected by combining the terms &quot;*insurance*&quot; and &quot;*comparison*&quot; (including left as well as right truncation). Examples of such inquiries are &quot;car insurance comparison&quot;, &quot;occupational disability insurance comparison&quot;, &quot;liability insurance in comparison&quot;. This procedure identified a total of 121 different search queries. This involved offering butter lamps, holy water, incense, prostrations, and circumambulation, with each activity being performed a thousand times.&nbsp;</p> <p>Stong mchod&nbsp;is an important spiritual practice helping practitioners overcome their fears and attachments, purify negative karma, and develop compassion and wisdom.&nbsp;The primary purpose of this ritual was to assist my sick grandmother, a devout Buddhist. Despite receiving medical treatment, her condition did not improve, so my family sought hope and healing from religious practice. My family invited 6 monks from Klu tshang Monastery to conduct the ritual. My family gave 300 RMB and offered&nbsp;<em>kha btags</em>&nbsp;&#39;a strip of silk&#39;. Data from: Geographic location and food availability offer differing levels of influence on the bacterial communities associated with larval sea urchins

Determining the factors underlying the assembly, structure, and diversity of symbiont communities remains a focal point of animal-microbiome research. Much of these efforts focus on taxonomic variation of microbiota within or between animal populations, but rarely test the proportional impacts of ecological components that may affect animal-associated microbiota. Using larvae from the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, we test the hypothesis that, under natural conditions, inter-population differences in the composition of larval-associated bacterial communities are larger than intra-population variation due to a heterogeneous feeding environment. Despite significant differences in bacterial community structure within each S. droebachiensis larval population based on food availability, development, phenotype, and time, variation in OTU membership and community composition correlated more strongly with geographic location. Moreover, 20-30% of OTUs associated with larvae were specific to a single location while less than 10% were shared. Taken together, these results suggest that inter-populational variation in symbiont communities may be more pronounced than intra-populational variation, and that this difference may suggest that broad scale ecological variables (e.g., across ocean basins) may mask smaller scale ecological variables (e.g., food availability).

Protection offered by leaf fungal endophytes to an invasive species against native herbivores depends on soil nutrients

1. Natural grassland ecosystems are increasingly threatened by excessive loadings of nutrients and by the presence of species bred for high productivity. By manipulating grazing regimes and nutrient availability, agricultural practices facilitate the establishment and spread of certain forage plant species outside managed landscapes, challenging local biodiversity. The ecological success of some species in the invaded range sometimes seems to be associated with the symbiosis with foliar fungal endophytes. Symbiotic fungi may increase the competitiveness of host species, but also the resistance to herbivory through the production of toxic secondary compounds such as alkaloids. While progress has been made in understanding how soil nutrients modulate other benefits offered by fungal endophytes to plants (for example, stress tolerance, competitive ability, etc), the consequences for a higher trophic level (i.e. herbivores) and the potential feedbacks on plant invasion have not been explored yet. 2. We explored the relative and interactive importance of soil nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) in modulating the interaction of the invasive grass tall fescue -associated with fungal endophytes- and native herbivores in a natural grassland. We hypothesized that N and P nutrients modulate differentially leaf quality traits, namely nutritional value and fungal alkaloid contents, determining the level of damage by native insect herbivores on the exotic tall fescue. 3. We found that only P addition significantly increased native caterpillar density in the field, which corresponded to a concomitant increase in leaf damage. Contrary to expectations, the concentration of the alkaloid ergovaline in leaves was not strongly related to N. It was the level of soil P which dictated the concentration of the element (P) in the leaves and reduced the level of defence against herbivores in this endophyte-symbiotic species. Then, herbivore performance increased, and plants were more prone to be attacked. 4. Synthesis: Our study indicates a strong control of soil P fertility on the tritrophic interaction among plants, fungal endophytes and native herbivores. This highlights the potential role of increased soil nutrients on the invasion spread of endophyte-symbiotic forage plants in natural grasslands.

Warmer nights offer no respite for a defensive mutualism

1. Ecologically-relevant symbioses are widespread in terrestrial arthropods but based on recent findings these specialized interactions are likely to be especially vulnerable to climate warming. Importantly, empirical data and climate models indicate that warming is occurring asynchronously, with nighttime temperatures increasing faster than daytime temperatures. Daytime (DTW) and nighttime warming (NTW) may impact ectothermic animals and their interactions differently as DTW results in greater daily temperature variation and moves organisms nearer to their thermal limits, while NTW avoids thermal limits and may relieve constraints of cooler nighttime temperatures; a nuance that has largely been ignored in the literature. 2. In laboratory experiments, we investigated how the timing of warming influences a widespread defensive mutualism involving the pea aphid, <i>Acyrthosiphon pisum</i>, and its heritable symbiont, <i>Hamiltonella defensa</i>, which protects against an important natural enemy, the parasitic wasp <i>Aphidius ervi</i>. 3. Three aphid sublines were experimentally created from single aphid genotype susceptible to A. ervi: one line infected with a highly protective H. defensa strain (APSE-3), one infected with a moderately protective strain (APSE-8), and one without any facultative symbiont. We examined aphid fitness in the presence and absence of parasitoids and when exposed to an average 2.5°C increase occurring across three warming scenarios (nighttime vs. daytime vs. uniform) relative to no-warming controls. 4. An increase of 2.5°C, as predicted to occur by the IPCC before 2100, was sufficient to disable the aphid defensive mutualism regardless of the timing of warming; a surprising result given that the daily maxima for control and nighttime warming scenarios were identical. We also found that warming negatively impacted i) symbiont-mediated interactions between host and parasitoid more than symbiont-free ones, ii) species interactions (host-parasitoid) more than each participant independently, and iii) aphids more than parasitoids even though higher trophic levels are generally predicted to be more affected by warming. 5. Here we show that 2.5°C warming, regardless of timing, negatively impacted a common microbe-mediated defensive mutualism. While this was a lab-based study, results suggest that temperature increases predicted in the near-term may disrupt the many ecological symbioses present in terrestrial ecosystems. 30-Mar-2020
