Carbon emissions and economic assessment of farm operations under different tillage practices in organic rainfed almond orchards under semiarid Mediterranean conditions
<p>This dataset corresponds to yield, price and fuel consumption from organic rainfed almond orchards in SE Spain under different diversification and tillage practices. The objective is to carry out an integrated environmental (focused on the CO<sub>2</sub> emissions) and economic assessment of farm operations under different diversification and tillage practices through a cradle-to-farm gate life cycle assessment (LCA) based on these data.</p> <p>These data correspond to the open-access article " Carbon emissions and economic assessment of farm operations under different tillage practices in organic rainfed almond orchards under semiarid Mediterranean conditions" published in Scientia Horticulturae. Operating conditions and steam gasification results
<p>Dataset of the Article "Development of a Chemical Quasi-Equilibrium Model of Biomass Waste Gasification in a Fluidized-Bed Reactor by Using Aspen Plus".</p> <p>In the delicate context of climate change, biomass gasification has been demonstrated to be a very useful technology to produce power and hydrogen. Nevertheless, in literature, there is a lack of a flexible and fast but accurate model of biomass gasification that can be used with all the combinations of oxidizing agents, taking into account both organic and inorganic contaminants, and able to give results that are more realistic. In order to do that, a model of biomass gasification has been developed using the chemical engineering software Aspen Plus. The developed model is based on the Gibbs free energy minimization applying the restricted quasi-equilibrium approach via Data-Fit regression from experimental data. The simulation results obtained, considering different mixes of gasifying agents, were compared and validated against experimental data reported in literature for the most advanced fluidized bed technology. The maximum discrepancy value obtained for hydrogen, with respect to experimental data, is of 8%, and all the other values reached by the developed simulations, considering both organic and inorganic compounds, are in good agreement with literature data. The gas yield reached by the developed simulation is in the range of 1.1–1.3 Nm<sup>3</sup>/kg. </p>

FoodLAND - Dataset on producers' socio-economic conditions, operational and technological states, and behavioural experimental results
<p>This submission derives from Work Package 3 "Producers' behaviours, agrobiodiversity, and food diversity" of the H2020 project FoodLAND "Food and Local, Agricultural and Nutritional Diversity" (2020-2025). It consists of two datasets, and two survey questionnaires used to gather these data (English version). The datasets include information about small crop and fish farmers, respectively, sampled in so-called Food Hubs (i.e., local production regions) in Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. The crop farmers' data were collected in two Food Hubs in each country, while the fish farmers' data were collected in one Food Hub in each of Kenya and Uganda, plus a limited number of observations in Tanzania, in all the cases using standardised survey questionnaires. In one location in each of Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania and Tunisia, lab-in-the-field experiments were run with crop farmers, while in one location in Uganda the same experiments were run with fish farmers. The experimental protocols have been submitted separately. The datasets are provided as Excel Workbooks, while the questionnaires are provided in PDF format. Each dataset includes one sheet about "Conditions" (one row per farmer: 4,529 observations for crop farmers and 927 for fish farmers), one sheet about "Production" (one row per farmer and per up to three crops: 10,668 observations for crop farmers and 1,245 for fish farmers), and one sheet with the results of the behavioural experiments (one row per farmer: 1,987 observations for crop farmers and 406 for fish farmers).</p>

The Role of Operating Conditions in the Precipitation of Magnesium Hydroxide Hexagonal Platelets Using NaOH Solutions
<p>Magnesium hydroxide, Mg(OH)<sub>2</sub>, is an inorganic compound extensively employed in several industrial sectors. Nowadays, it is mostly produced from magnesium-rich minerals. Nevertheless, magnesium-rich solutions, such as natural and industrial brines, could prove to be a great treasure. In this work, synthetic magnesium chloride and sodium hydroxide, NaOH, solutions were used to recover Mg(OH)<sub>2</sub> by reactive crystallization. A detailed experimental campaign was conducted aiming at producing grown Mg(OH)<sub>2</sub> hexagonal platelets. Experiments were carried out in a stirred tank crystallizer operated in single- and double-feed configurations. In the single-feed configuration, globular and nano-flakes primary particles were obtained, as always reported in the literature when NaOH is used as a precipitant. However, these products are not complying with flame retardant applications that require large hexagonal Mg(OH)<sub>2</sub> platelets. This work suggests an effective precipitation strategy to favour crystal growth while, at the same time, limiting nucleation mechanism. The double-feed configuration allowed the synthesis of grown Mg(OH)<sub>2</sub> hexagonal platelets. The influence of reactants flow rates, reactants concentrations and reaction temperature was analyzed. SEM pictures were also taken to investigate the morphology of Mg(OH)<sub>2</sub> crystals. The proposed precipitation strategy paves the road to satisfy flame retardant market requirements.</p>
Full-scale MBR coupled with PAC for the removal of 232 OMPs: operating conditions, conventional pollutants, concentration of OMPs, UHPLC-QTOF-MS analysis
<p>The spreadsheet contains data regarding the operation and performance of a full-scale MBR coupled with powdered activated carbon (PAC) added inside the reactor. This hybrid system is chosen to evaluate the removal of 232 organic micropollutants (OMPs) and the potential enhancement in the removal efficiencies with the addition of PAC at a concentration of 0.1 g/L and 0.2 g/L</p><ul><li>First worksheet contains minimum, maximum, and average concentrations of conventional pollutants (COD, BOD, SST, SSV, DOC, UV254, nitrogen compounds, phosphorous, <i>E. coli</i>) in the influent and effluent of the WWTP. Methodologies adopted are also reported.</li><li>Second worksheet reports the operating conditions of the full-scale MBR as well as information about the tubular UF membranes installed. Characteristics of the PAC purchased to perform the experiments regarding the removal of OMPs are also described.</li><li>Third worksheet reports minimum, maximum and average concentration of 232 OMPs in the influent and effluent during:<ol><li>The monitoring period considering only the MBR</li><li>The experimental periods where PAC is added and maintained at a concentration of 0.1g/L and 0.2g/L inside the MBR</li></ol></li><li>Fourth worksheet contains metadata regarding the UHPLC–QTOF–MS analysis performed to evaluate the occurrence of OMPs in the influent and effluent of the WWTP. BioRxiv preprint 2021.12.06.471434</p> <p>Data collected by using voltage-sensitive dye imaging to capture population-wide, single neuron resolution activity in the isolated <em>Aplysia</em> buccal ganglion before and after <em>in vitro</em> operant conditioning. Data for 7 contingently trained and 7 yoked control animals includes population spike trains, timing of buccal motor patterns, ganglia images, and pixel coordinates for each neuron (kernels). In addition, the data includes results of the non-negative matrix factorization analyses described in the article.</p> <p>The dataset is organized as a Matlab structure variable.</p>
