Dataset pertaining to paper "New insights on the radiative impacts of ozone-depleting substances"

Focusing on the period 1955-2005, we here present results from offline radiative forcing (RF) calculations from a global chemistry climate model. Using realistic distributions of ODS and consistent stratospheric ozone, we show that ODS dominate the adjusted stratospheric warming of the lower stratosphere, where CO2 has little radiative impact. We also show that the global mean RF of stratospheric ozone only cancels a fraction of the RF of ODS, leaving an important ODS contribution to anthropogenic forcing. Finally we show that the RF of ODS opposes Arctic amplification, its equator-to-pole gradient being larger than the one of CO2.

This data-set consists of the output fields including temperature adjustment and radiative forcing from offline experiments using the NCAR CESM-PORT model.

Model data to reproduce the figures in Haase et al. "Sensitivity of the southern hemisphere circumpolar jet response to Antarctic ozone depletion: prescribed versus interactive chemistry" submitted to ACP in May 2020. These are based on NCAR's CESM1(WACCM) model with and without interactive chemistry. Detailed information on the model setup is to find in Haase et al. and references therein (https://doi.org/10.5194/acp-2020-441).

Version 1.1 is associated with the first revision of the manuscript (September 2020) that led to an additional figure (new Figure 10) in the paper. Chemistry contribution to stratospheric ozone depletion after the unprecedented water-rich Hunga Tonga eruption

This datasets provide basis of our analysis in the paper - Chemistry contribution to stratospheric ozone depletion after the unprecedented water-rich Hunga Tonga eruption. We run two different nudged cases: the volcano case with forcing (SO2 and H2O injection) from the HTHH eruption and the control case with no forcing (no SO2 or H2O injection) from the HTHH eruption. The difference between these two nudged simulations gives information about the chemistry contribution to stratospheric ozone depletion after the HTHH eruption. Only the datasets used in analysis are archived here. The data archived here is about 28GB in the Netcdf format. It has a horizontal resolution of 0.9° latitude × 1.25° longitude, and 110 vertical levels, with a vertical resolution of ~500m in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere.
