Data from: A novel environmental restoration method for an abandoned limestone quarry with a deep open pit and steep palisades: a case study

In general, exploitation of rock materials, such as limestone or granite exploitation, can cause serious damage to the ecological environment near a mine area. With economic development and the ever-increasing demand for ore resources, mining activities have induced very serious environmental issues in China. Therefore, environmental restoration work around mines in China is urgently required. This study explores the Chuankou open-pit limestone quarry in Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, Northwest China, as the engineering case. The environmental issues caused by over 40 years of limestone exploitation, including land degradation, land occupation, dust pollution and potential geological disasters, were investigated. Combining the characteristics of this quarry with a summary of previous studies on environmental restoration work, this paper proposes a novel and systematic method that was comprehensively carried out through engineering and revegetation measures. The engineering measure, that is, the construction of an artificial slope by using local abandoned construction materials, solved the environmental problems in this quarry and provided site conditions favourable for revegetation. The revegetation measure restored the local ecosystem. This method provides both a new idea for the sustainable development of a mining area and a useful reference for analogous engineering cases.

Silutanispermum kvacekiorum gen. et sp. nov. seeds from the Early Cretaceous Famalicão locality (sample 025), Portugal; Synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographic microscopy (SRXTM, orthoslices). a) Longitudinal orthoslice (yz1170) through the median plane of the seed (S170238) in the micropylar region showing exotestal cells lining the micropylar slit (mi) and hilum (hi); note the well-preserved mesotestal cells (me). b) Longitudinal orthoslice (xz0805) of seed perpendicular to the median plane through the micropylar region showing the transverse micropylar slit (mi) lined by radiating exotestal cells; note abundant mesotestal cells (me). c) Transverse orthoslice (xy0768) through seed below hilum and micropyle showing exotesta (ex) and mesotesta (me) that is strongly developed along the raphe (ra) (S174352). d) Transverse orthoslice (xy2113) through middle of the seed showing well-preserved cellular nutritive tissue with empty cells; note that the raphe (ra) is enclosed in mesotestal tissue (S174352). e) Longitudinal orthoslice (yz0970) through seed coat showing exotesta (ex) of tall palisade-shaped cells and thick mesotesta (me) of low cells (S174352). Scale bars = 500 µm (a, c, d); 250 µm (b); 125 µm (e).

Museum Village Düppel - House 1 - Palisade

[**Museum Village Düppel**](https://bit.ly/3q58lnq) is a seasonal open-air museum. It presents visitors with a reconstruction of an approximately 800-year-old village. The site of this former settlement has now been reconstructed with residences, storehouses, workshops, fields and gardens. 1967 marked the start of archaeological excavations in southwest Berlin. They revealed evidence of building foundations and farmyards of a village from the period just before 1200. Thanks to experimental archaeology, it was possible to rebuild the medieval village on the settlement's original site. The village has developed into a widely recognised centre for experimental archaeology. Digitized by the [HTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences, Institute DE:HIVE](https://bit.ly/3cG7bug). The project was a part of a yearly programme, organized by [digiS](https://bit.ly/37e5Eae) and is financed by the [Senate of Berlin](https://bit.ly/3q55b2L). **CC BY-Attribution: HTW Berlin - DE:HIVE/City Museum Berlin** Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
