In this study, we focus on the new, innovative approach for synthesis and functionalization of metal-organic framework (MOF) ZIF-8 in one step at room temperature to enhance its capacity for CO<sub>2</sub> capture. Specifically, we investigated the impact of four amino-compounds, namely tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA), hexadecylamine (HDA), <a title="Learn more about ethanolamine from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages" href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/chemical-engineering/ethanolamine">ethanolamine</a> (ELA), and cyclopropylamine (CPA), on the <a title="Learn more about chemical structure from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages" href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/materials-science/structure-composition">chemical structure</a>, size, surface area and porosity, and CO<sub>2</sub> capturing of ZIF-8 powder. By varying concentrations of the amino-compounds, we examined their influence on the ZIF-8 properties. Our findings demonstrate that each amino-compound and its respective concentration exhibit distinct effects on the characteristics of ZIF-8. Notably, the ZIF-8 sample functionalized with the highest presented concentration of TEPA exhibited significant improvement in CO<sub>2</sub> trapping efficiency, with a 33.3% enhancement. Moreover, least concentrated samples with added HDA or CPA demonstrated notable improvements with enhancements of 46.6% and 18.6%, respectively. These results highlight the potential of simple synthesis and functionalization techniques for MOFs in enhancing their CO<sub>2</sub> capture capabilities. The findings from this study offer new opportunities for the development of strategies to mitigate CO<sub>2</sub> emissions using MOFs.</p>
Dataset: Exogenous capture accounts for fundamental differences between prosaccade and antisaccade performance
<p>This dataset (packaged as the zip file proanti_share.zip) accompanies the article titled "Exogenous capture accounts for fundamental differences between pro- and antisaccade performance" by AT Goldstein, TR Stanford, and E Salinas, eLife (2022).</p> <p>The experimental results in the paper are based on behavioral data collected from human participants during performance of visuomotor tasks, as described in the article. The trial-by-trial data (two matrices inside two .mat files) included here is the basis for the results reported in the article. </p> <p>In addition to the trial-wise data matrices, the dataset includes Matlab functions and scripts (*.m files) used to analyze the data and generate figures in the article. Instructions and specifics are detailed in the README file. </p>
Recording and analysing physical control variables used in clarinet playing: A Musical Instrument Performance Capture and Analysis Toolbox (MIPCAT)
<p>Measuring fine-grained physical interaction between the human player and the musical instrument can significantly improve our understanding of music performance. This article presents a Musical Instrument Performance Capture and Analysis Toolbox (MIPCAT) that can be used to capture and to process the physical control variables used by a clarinettist while performing music. This includes both a measurement apparatus with sensors and a software toolbox for analysis. Several of the components used here can also be applied in other musical contexts. Applied to the clarinet, the instrument sensors record blowing pressure, reed position, tongue contact and sound pressures in the mouth, mouthpiece and barrel. Radiated sound and multiple videos are also recorded to allow details of the embouchure and the instrument’s motion to be determined. The software toolbox can synchronise measurements from different devices, extract time-variable descriptors, segment by notes and excerpts, and summarise descriptors per note, phrase or excerpt. Assessing the performance and efficiency of environmental DNA/RNA capture methodologies under controlled experimental conditions
<p>Growing interest and affordability of environmental DNA and RNA (eDNA and eRNA) approaches for biodiversity assessments and monitoring of complex ecosystems have led to the emergence of manifold protocols for nucleic acids (NAs) isolation and processing. Although there is no consensus on a standardized workflow, the common practice for water samples is to concentrate NAs via filtration using varying pore size membranes. Using the smallest pore is assumed to be most efficient for NAs capture from a wide range of material (including sub-cellular particles), however a trade-off must occur between detection of a meaningful molecular signal and cost/time effort when processing samples using fine pore membranes.</p> <p>Comparative studies involving formal efficiency assessments are lacking, which restricts informed decision-making around an optimized sampling approach for applications such as biosurveillance (i.e., detection and monitoring of target taxa - nuisance organisms, endangered and indicator taxa or other species of economic or cultural importance). Here, we present an experimental study using an easily cultured microalgal species (<em>Alexandrium pacificum</em>) to test different filter membranes for capturing NAs in the context of cost/time effort and cell fractions encountered in nature (whole cells, partially lysed, and naked NAs).</p> <p>The results showed no statistically significant difference between membrane types for capturing target eDNA signal from intact and partially lysed cell treatments. In terms of time effort and volume processed, higher efficiency ratings were obtained with the larger pore size (5 µm) cellulose membranes. Positively charged nylon demonstrated enhanced capture of naked NAs, and especially eRNA signal, across treatments.</p> <p>Our findings support using coarse pore size filters for adequate capture of target NA signal (from both eDNA and eRNA) with less processing time. The framework presented here can provide a quick and robust feasibility check and comparative assessment of new and existing NA processing technologies, and allows sufficient control over multiple parameters, including physical-chemical water properties, temporal scales, and concentration and type of input material.</p>

Molecular diffusion enhanced performance evaluation of metal-organic frameworks for carbon dixoide capture
<p>This data set contains the process-level performance ranking of 982 metal-organic frameworks (MOF) which were down-selected from 10,143 structures contained in the puplic CoRE MOF 2019 data set. To rankorder MOFs for application in post-combustion carbon dioxide capture, we have used a computational workflow that combines active-learning based structure selection, molecular-level modeling, and process-level optimization. A detailed description of the repository content is provided in the README file which is included in the zip archive “Diffusion-MOF-Screening.zip”.</p>
