<p>The dataset contains a sample of 100 place names from ‘special maps’ by Charles Perthées (1:225,000, 1783-1804). Place names are supplemented with possible matches from the “National Register of Geographical Names” (NRGM) or the "Historical Atlas of Poland (HAP). There are 19 266 matches for 100 place names. 85 of them have 'certain' or 'uncertain' matches and 15 remained unmatched and, therefore, not geocoded.</p>
H.J. Andrews Forest Discovery Trail: An interpretation of place based on curriculum of interpretive learning trail and field trip support, 2016
The H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest (HJA) in the Oregon Cascades is one of 24 sites in the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network. It supports research on forests, streams, and watersheds, and fosters collaborations between ecosystem science, education, natural resource management, and the humanities. The site currently hosts 85 interdisciplinary research projects, as well as experiential training for undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the HJA runs a vibrant professional development program for teachers. Because much of the HJA’s terrain is steep and occupied with sensitive research materials, middle and high school visits are limited to tours in designated areas. The Discovery Trail was developed in 2011 as a place for visitors (~1800 in 2014) to explore the forest and site research themes from HJA headquarters, but it is not yet amenable to unguided educational exploration. We have designed an interpretive learning trail and field trip support framework for the Discovery Trail. Our primary objective is to educate students about place while guiding them to reflect upon their own relationships with place and personal responsibility for stewardship behavior. Long-term place-based conservation research is woven with creative writing from the HJA writer’s residency program and paired with reflection and creative inquiry. Interactive trail stops enable students to engage the forest from multiple perspectives. The Discovery Trail is wired for intranet wifi and content and assessment will be delivered by digital media (i.e. iPads). We will evaluate conceptual learning according to the Framework for the Next Generation Science Standards, as well as observe affective changes in sense of place, empowerment, and expressions of care or empathy through analysis of student responses to the trail activities. Heavy metals in mammal tissue over the last 100 years and their proximity to populated places in Minnesota
This dataset makes use of the University of Minnesota's Bell Museum of Natural History collection examining specimens of four mammal species (a mouse, shrew, bat and squirrel) to ask how tissue metal content has changed over a 94-year time period (1911-2005), and implications for measures of individual performance (body size and cranial capacity). The metal content of organisms is often elevated closer to cities, so these specimens were examined for spatial variation in metal exposure based on their proximity to human populations and the size of those populated areas at the time of collection. Analysis of mammal tissues focused on six heavy metals associated with human activity (Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Cr, Ni, Mn), to address whether these anthropogenic metal pollutants vary in concert with human activity.

Sistan: part 1. Heritage Places
<h3>Deposit of Heritage Places from the Sistan region (Iran, Afghanistan) maintained within the EAMENA database.</h3> <p>This dataset is an exported subset of the Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA) database. It includes archaeological and cultural heritage places, such as ancient settlements, historical structures, traditional villages, and irrigation systemswithin the central areas of the historical landscape of Sistan (سیستان), located in eastern Iran and southwestern Afghanistan. The data was gathered by the visual inspection of 16,875 km2 of open-access satellite imagery accessible on Google Earth covering the period from 2001 to 2022, utilising the EAMENA methodology for archaeological and condition assessment. It is stored in the EAMENA web-based open-access database, hosted by the University of Oxford. The primary objective of compiling this dataset is to evaluate the impact of recent climate and environmental changes, as well as other disturbance factors, such as agriculture, building and development, and infrastructure, on the cultural heritage places of this historical region.</p> <p>---</p> <p>The two repositories (Heritage Places and <a href="../records/10376132">Grid Squares</a>) both pertain to Part 1 of the Sistan survey. This dataset primarily focuses on the central areas of Sistan, but it can be expanded through future surveys to include the eastern parts of Sistan in Afghanistan and additional undocumented areas in Iran.</p>

Historical Place Gazetteer and Historical Mine Register, Tyrol 15th, 16th century
<p>The dataset is split in two separated files in CSV format (UTF 8):</p> <p>1) Historical place gazetteer: It contains historical tyrolean names of places (core region: districts Kufstein, Schwaz; Austria) within the mining documents Hs. 37 and Hs. 1587 and their modern equivalents enriched with unique Identifiers. Furthermore, Places were localised and georeferenced as far as current scientific data and knowledge permit. A final column shows corresponding IDs between Hs. 37 and Hs. 1587.</p> <p>2) Historical mine register: The file contains historical Tyrolean names of mines and pits (core region: district Kufsten, Schwaz) within the mining documents Hs. 37 and Hs. 1587 as well as a modern standardisation of the names. The mines also received unique Identifiers.</p> <p>The registers were generated by the research team of the project “Text Mining Medieval Mining Texts” (2019-2022). Two historical mining sources were processed: “Verleihbuch der Rattenberger Bergrichter” ( Hs. 37, 1460-1463) and “Schwazer Berglehenbuch” (Hs. 1587, approx. 1515) stored by the Tyrolean Regional Archive, Innsbruck (Austria). The central research objective of T.M.M.M.T. is the extraction and representation of the legal relationships between people, claims and mines over space and time. Mesopotamian Ancient Place-names Almanac
<p>Version 1.0 of the MAPA Gazetteer, presented here in CSV and JSON formats, is the presentation of a gazetteer drawn from legal, economic and administrative texts from the First Millennium BCE, issued in and around the Mesopotamian city of Uruk. The listed toponyms were input manually from the books and articles in MAPA_Gazetteer.bib. The gazetteer follows the JSON-LD based <a href="https://github.com/LinkedPasts/linked-places/blob/master/tsv_0.3.md">Linked Places format</a> of the <a href="http://whgazetteer.org/">World Historical Gazetteer</a>. The readme contains a key to the database’s fields, a brief introduction to the MAPA project and its next steps, and a bibliography.</p>

Backscattering from randomly placed Dirichlet particles
<p><strong>Summary:</strong></p> <p>A simulated data set of backscattered waves, governed by the 2D wave equation, from randomly placed Dirichlet particles. The particles are circular with 0.2 < radius < 2.0 and 1% < volume fraction < 20%. The incident wave is of the form e<sup>i k (x - x<sub>R</sub> - t)</sup> where the particles are placed in the halfspace x>0 and the backscattering is emitted and received at (x<sub>R</sub>, 0) with x<sub>R</sub> = -10.0. The data named bunny and bunnytest is for incident waves with 0 < k < 1 (where the term e<sup>- i k t</sup> factors out). The data named train and test is for incident waves of the form e<sup>0.1</sup><sup>(x - xR - t)^2</sup>, with 9.5 < t < 98. </p> <p><strong>Format:</strong></p> <p>An example of how to use the data is given in [4]. To load the data requires the packages [1] and [2] in the language Julia v0.5> [3]. <p>This dataset contains a lexicon of place names in the Alsatian dialects. A new spiralian phylogeny places the enigmatic arrow worms in gnathiferans
<p>This study attempts to elucidate the position of chaetognaths, an enigmatic marine group using multigene phylogeny derived from transcriptome sequencing. Its main conclusion is that they group in Gnathifera together with rotifers. Our trees also suggest alternative relationships within spiralians with a new clade uniting annelid, platyhelminthes and nemerteans ('vermizoa'). This dataset contains alignments and raw output files from phylogenetic reconstruction generated in this study. </p> <ul> <li>'alis.tgz' contains the raw individual alignments for each gene family.</li> <li>'alis_filtered.tgz' contains the alignments after filtering with HMMClean and BMGE that were used in concatenation.</li> <li>'cat-gtr-dh6.tgz' contains the bayesian sample (tree files and trace files with parameters) for the analysis conduced on the Dayhoff6 recoded dataset.</li> <li>'cat-gtr.tgz' contains the bayesian sample for the analysis conduced on the non-recoded reduced dataset. </li> <li>'Concat-alis.tgz' contains the alignments used for phylogenetic analyses. </li> <li>'IQTree-C20.tgz' contains the run files for the IQTREE analyses of reduced dataset using C20 model. </li> <li>'IQTree-LG4X.tgz' contains the run files for the IQTREE analyses if the whole matrix using LG4X model. </li> <li>'Results_phylogenetic_analyses.pdf' contains all the consensus generated for this study</li> </ul>
