Sustainable Mobility Plan at Area Science Park

This dataset contains data related to the Sustainable Mobility Plan (in Italian: PSCL, Piano Spostamenti Casa Lavoro) of Area Science Park (www.areasciencepark.it). It includes information on the number of public transport users, the number of trips made, the percentage of trips made by public transport, the average distance travelled, the number of parking spaces available and the occupancy rate of parking spaces. The purpose of the dataset is to provide open access to the information on which planning is based, and to enable the assessment of the implementation of the plan and its impact on mobility.

The main objective of the Sustainable Mobility Plan is to describe the current situation and the initiatives launched and planned for the structural and permanent reduction of the environmental impact resulting from systematic home-work mobility. The measures envisaged in the plan concern all the five axes of action suggested by the guidelines and aim at the promotion of agile work, the study of feasibility studies for initiatives in favor of public transport, carpooling, cycle mobility, as well as favoring the use of electric vehicles.

Files available:

Conference Paper: “A roadmap to sustainable mobility: harvesting the low-hanging fruits while investing to achieve net zero emissions” presented at IASP 2023 Conference (29/09/2022)

PSCL 2021 (document and dashboard)

Survey

Map

Data from: Planning for climate change through additions to a national protected area network: implications for cost and configuration

Expanding the network of protected areas is a core strategy for conserving biodiversity in the face of climate change. Here we explore the impacts on reserve network cost and configuration associated with planning for climate change in the United States using networks that prioritize areas projected to be climatically suitable for 1,460 species both today and into the future, climatic refugia, and areas likely to facilitate climate-driven species movements. For 14% of the species, networks of sites selected solely to protect areas currently climatically suitable failed to provide climatically suitable habitat in the future. Protecting sites climatically suitable for species today and in the future significantly changed the distribution of priority sites across the U.S.—increasing relative protection in the northeast, northwest, and central U.S. Protecting areas projected to retain their climatic suitability for species cost 59% more than solely protecting currently suitable areas. Including all climatic refugia and 20% of areas that facilitate climate-driven movements increased the cost by another 18%. Our results indicate that protecting some types of climatic refugia may be a relatively inexpensive adaptation strategy. Moreover, although addressing climate change in conservation plans will have significant implications for the configuration of networks, the increased cost of doing so may be relatively modest.

Data for: Planning for a future of changes: prioritizing areas for conservation of small mammals in the Caatinga, Brazil

Human land use and climate change are two of the main threats affecting biodiversity, especially in arid/semiarid regions. The most effective way to protect the species in these ecosystems against these threats is through the delimitation of Protected Areas (PAs). However, such PAs need to be targeted cost-efficiently and consider future climate change. We identify priority areas to preserve small mammal species in the Caatinga in the present and in the future of climate change. We also evaluate how well these priority areas are protected by current PAs and identify ways forward to improve their protection. We use ecological niche models and Zonation spatial prioritisation software to identify the top 30% priority areas to preserve small mammal species under current climate and land use scenarios, besides considering optimistic and pessimistic scenarios of future climate change. We also evaluate how much these priority areas are covered by current PAs, identify ways to further improve their protection using hierarchical mask analysis, and evaluate species mean distribution coverage. The consequences of climate change will not hugely impact the distribution of priority areas for species conservation in the Caatinga. Around 13% of the identified priority areas overlap with current PAs, and planning the expansion of PAs considering integral protection areas increases the coverage of priority areas to more than 18% and captures more than 72% of species-suitable areas. Our prioritisations take into account climate change and provide low risk if conducted as a "no-regrets" conservation action. These priority areas are poorly supported by the Brazilian PA system, and need of further protection. One cost-effective option could be to upgrade some Sustainable Use PAs into more restrictive ones. Securing these priority areas helps preserve the long-term ecosystem functioning and to prevent biodiversity loss in a changing world.

Planned developments and gated communities in the Los Angeles area, a database (2012) - IP4 Geographie-cités

This database has been produced for the purpose of a project comparing suburban spatial structure of planned development in the Los Angeles region. The main goal was to investigate large subdivisions, planned residential developments, gated communities in a post-suburban realm, in a comparative perspective. The database allows to document the impacts of spatial structure (gated communities, enclosure, seclusion within dead-ends streets) on socio-economic homogeneity.

Major descriptors of homogeneity have been measured with housing price and socio-economic characterization of residents (segregation patterns). It contains 2418 features, distributed as polygons and points ESRI shapefiles.
This project has been funded by the French National Agency for Research (ANR), in a collaboration with Institut Paris Region.
