Water, Soil, Floc, Plant Total Phosphorus, Total Carbon, and Bulk Density data (FCE) from Everglades Protection Area (EPA) from 2004 to 2016
These data are a compillation of data from multiple sources including South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) DBhydro web database, United States Environment Protection Agency Regional, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (REMAP), Everglades Soil Mapping (ESM), and Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research (FCE-LTER). The matrix of these data were compiled for soil, surface water, floc, and plants where the nutrients are counted for total phosphorus, total carbon, and bulk density. When downloading the data from DBhydro, only regularly collected samples (SAMP) were included these data. As per DBhydro metadata, the regular samples were collected monthly by grab method throughout the year from 2004 to 2016 for SFWMD monitoring stations across the EPA. All flagged and field quality controlled values were excluded to avoid the duplication of data. In order to maintain the quality assurance/ quality control (QA/QC) the method detection limit for water TP was fixed at 2 µg/L by the SFWMD. This data set were used to assess the decadal trend of TP concentration in surface water and soil in EPA. Available data from 2004 to 2014 was collected for soils and from 2004 to 2016 for water to understand a decade of trends. Both Geographic Information System (GIS) and statistical data analysis were applied to determine changes in water quality and soil chemistry. These data are the basis for Shishir Sarker's Master's thesis.
Assessment of current and future invasive plants in protected dune habitats of the Atlantic coastal region for the LIFE DUNIAS project (LIFE20 NAT/BE/001442)
<p>This .csv file contains the raw data from the risk screening supplementing the LIFE DUNIAS horizon scan for (invasive) alien species in protected habitats of Atlantic coastal dune ecosystems (<a href="https://doi.org/10.21436/inbor.86703335">Adriaens et al. 2022</a>). We gladly refer to the annexes and methods section in this report for more explanation about the fields and their contained values.</p> <p>The file contains the following fields:</p> <p><em>TaxonName</em>: original taxonomic name of the considered alien species</p> <p><em>WorkName</em>: taxonomic name of the considered alien species after lumping of subspecies, closely related species of a complex, functionally similar species of the same genus (see chapter 3.1)</p> <p><em>hab_xxxx</em> (1110, 1130, 1140, 1210, 1230, 1310, 1320, 1330, 2110, 2120, 2130, 2140, 21A0, 2150, 2190, 2160, 2170, 2180): susceptibility of habitat for the alien species (4-digit code refering to the Annex I habitat under the Habitats Directive) </p> <p><em>occ_XX</em> (BE, FR, IE, NL, ES, UK, DK, DE, PT, ALL): occupancy of the alien species in different countries of the Atlantic European region (as the number of 10km<sup>2</sup> squares per country). Viroplant Project - Microcosm studies on the effect of bacteriophages used as plant protection products on soil microbial communities
<p>This file contains the description, data and DNA analyses on the effect of bacteriophages with a potential to be used as plant protecction products on the structure and function of soil microbial communities. The objective was to evaluate two different microcsom incubation systems with phages and microbial cells from soil, or soil itself and to analyses in a time dependent manner how the phages affect the natural soil microbiomes. The microbial communities were quantified with qPCR and their diversity analyzed with PCR amplified 16S rRNA gene sequences. Bioinformatic analyses were used to evaluate microbial community responses</p>

Data from: Which traits optimize plant benefits? Meta-analysis on the effect of partner traits on the outcome of an ant-plant protective mutualism
<p><span>1. Theoretical models on mutualism dynamics predict that partner traits may influence the outcome of mutualistic interactions. However, most empirical data on this issue is restricted to case studies, limiting our ability to reach a more widespread comprehension of the role of partner traits on the dynamic of mutualisms. </span></p> <p><span>2. We investigated how the outcome of protective mutualisms between ants and plants bearing extrafloral nectaries (EFNs) is influenced by the traits of EFNs and ants feeding on EFNs. We used a meta-analytical approach based on 35 studies investigating the effect of ant attendance on the herbivores and reproductive performance of EFN-bearing plants. We evaluated how variation in the EFN vascularization and location on plants and the ant aggressiveness can modulate the effect of ant attendance on the plants. </span></p> <p><span>3. Both plant and ant traits investigated here drove the outcome of the protective mutualism for EFN-bearing plants. Plants exclusively bearing EFNs near reproductive organs benefited more from ant attendance than plants bearing EFNs on vegetative or vegetative and reproductive organs. Ants had a higher positive impact on the reproductive performance of plants bearing non-vascularized EFNs than plants bearing vascularized EFNs, although their effects on herbivores had been similar in both plant types. Regarding the ant behavior, plants often attended by more aggressive ant species had a higher reproductive performance than plants often attended by less aggressive ones. </span></p> <p><span>4. Synthesis</span><span>: Our results highlight that the selective pressures and evolutionary routes in ant-plant protective mutualisms may depend on the pool of traits exhibited by partner species. Although some studies have already reported some impact of species traits on the outcome of ant-plant mutualisms, this is the first time that a generalization about the role of species traits on the net balance of ant attendance was proposed. Due to this generalization, it was possible to advance our knowledge about the evolution of facultative mutualisms by showing that the role of species traits on the mutualistic outcome can vary in intricate ways due to a particular trait combination found among partners in communities where the interactions are embedded in.</span></p>

<p>A first field experiment was carried out in the Experimental field Bozhurishte on Leached Smolnitsa with corn for grain (Zea mays, L.) in 2 crop rotations in 2022 under TUdi project. The paper presents the results and short analysis. </p>
Data set on the impact of selected plant protection products on ecosystem service providers, including interactive effects
<p>The Excel files contain the results of ecotoxicological tests for the effects of selected insecticides on ESP species. The objective of this dataset is to provide original data from acute and semi-chronic laboratory tests on a few important beneficial species with broad geographic distribution. The data allow the evaluation of delayed effects and possible interactive effects of combined treatments for those pesticides that are commonly used in mixtures or sprayed next to each other in short time intervals, effectively exposing non-target arthropods to combined/sequential effects. Each data file contains the “Description” sheet where all details of the test and the exact meaning of data fields in the database are reported. The data files are named in a self-explanatory manner, starting with the name of the institution that produced the data (UC – University of Coimbra; UJA – Jagiellonian University), followed by the name of the tested species and names of tested products.</p>
Verzehrsstudie zur Ermittlung der Lebensmittelaufnahme von Säuglingen und Kleinkindern für die Abschätzung eines akuten Toxizitätsrisikos durch Rückstände von Pflanzenschutzmitteln (VELS) [Consumption study to determine the food intake of infants and young children for the estimation of an acute toxicity risk through residues of plant protection products]
<p>The VELS study (<strong>V</strong>erzehrsstudie zur <strong>E</strong>rmittlung der Lebensmittelaufnahme von <strong>S</strong>äuglingen und Kleinkindern für die Abschätzung eines akuten Toxizitätsrisikos durch Rückstände von Pflanzenschutzmitteln; VELS) was conducted in 2001/2002. Data were collected from 804 infants, toddlers and children (age group 0.5 to <5 years) in Germany. The food consumed was recorded by the parents as "food as eaten" over a total of 6 days (2x3-day food record with an interval of 3-6 months for toddlers and 4-8 weeks for infants). Data from: Plant protection services mediated by extrafloral nectaries decline with aridity but are not influenced by chronic anthropogenic disturbance in Brazilian Caatinga
<p>1. Most terrestrial species occur in human-modified landscapes that are experiencing climate change. In addition to direct impacts on species, both anthropogenic disturbance and climate change can have important effects through changes in species interactions, including the disruption of ecological services provided by them.</p> <p>2. Here we investigate how chronic anthropogenic disturbance (CAD) and aridity affect the effectiveness of plant protection services provided by ants to plants bearing extrafloral nectaries (EFNs).</p> <p>3. The study was conducted across 13 01-ha plots distributed along CAD and aridity gradients in Caatinga vegetation of northeastern Brazil. We focused on Pityrocarpa moniliformis, the most abundant and widely distributed EFN-bearing tree species occurring in our study area, and used experimental attack rates on termites as a measure of effectiveness of ant protection services. We investigated the relative roles of nectar production (volume and concentration) and ant species composition in mediating the effects of CAD and aridity on the effectiveness of protection services.</p> <p>4. Attack rates by ants declined with increasing aridity but were not related to CAD. The volume of extrafloral nectar declined with increasing CAD but was not affected by aridity, whereas the concentration was not related to either CAD or aridity. The composition of attendant ant species varied with aridity but not with CAD.</p> <p>5. Synthesis: The decline in ant-protection services with increased aridity was therefore mediated by changes in the composition of attendant ant species rather than by changes in the production of extrafloral nectar. Our findings suggest that CAD does not affect plant-protection services provided by ants but highlights the vulnerability of EFN-bearing plants to climate change through decreased predation of herbivores.</p>
