Algae, and Seagrass Coverage Relative to Presence of Sargassum in a Seagrass Meadow within Crandon Park, Florida, USA, March 2024 – March 2025

This package contains data on percent coverage of sargassum, seagrass, and algae recorded along 3 transects extending from the shoreline of Crandon Park, Florida from 2024-03-07 to 2025-03-26 as part of the Coastal Ecosystem-Research Experience for Teachers (CE-BIORETS) program. The data also include epiphyte-cover scores and water visibility, temperature, and salinity values. We placed a m^2 quadrat on the seafloor at 5-meter intervals along three 50-meter transects extending from the shoreline. We then recorded percent coverage of seagrass, algae, and sargassum taxa (to genus or species) and the epiphyte load within the quadrat. We also recorded water visibility, temperature, and salinity at the water surface along the transect. We collected these data to investigate the impact sargassum has on native seagrass meadows. The impact of the presence of the crayfish Faxonius virilis on the excavating behavior of Faxonius propinquus, Michigan, 2025

Faxonius propinquus are native crayfish to the Upper Midwest. They are burrowing crayfish that work the sediment and make small burrows with numerous openings. These crayfish are imperiled by Faxonius virilis which overlap in niche structure. We were interested in the impact of the chemical cues emanating from F. virilis on the sediment and burrowing nature of F. propinquus. We conducted a study at the University of Michigan's Biological Station using F. propinquus caught in nearby Douglas Lake. In addition, we collected marl substrate from where these animals are found. We created flow through mesocosms and placed F. propinquus in the mesocosm with marl substrate. Then upstream of this, we placed a F. virilis in a flow through container to allow chemical cues from F. virilis to reach F. propinquus. We did a 48 hour study where 24 hours were with a competitor chemical cue and 24 were without. This 48 cycle was repeated to provide discrete 48 hour replicates. We monitored sediment working behavior at night and during the day.

Schoolyard ecology at North Temperate Lakes LTER: Dragonfly Species Presence at Stormwater Retention Ponds in July of 2014

This study aims to integrate scientific observations with community involvement, specifically with dragonfly species. The presence and absence of 17 dragonfly species was observed at Stormwater Retention ponds in the Madison area in July of 2014 and made into frequency distributions. This research will continue with community outreach in the area to further involve and educate the community on the biodiversity of their local ponds.

Presence observations for six tree species prioritized for forest landscape restoration in Ethiopia

<p><strong>Description:</strong></p><p>Geolocations of presence occurrences for a selection of six species (<i>Cordia africana</i>, <i>Croton macrostachyus</i>, <i>Eucalyptus globulus</i>, <i>Faidherbia albida</i>, <i>Grevillea robusta</i>, <i>Juniperus procera</i>) sourced from databases (GBIF, RAINBIO) and from the scientific literature.</p><p>Each record is associated with a DOI, link, or citation to the original source of the data. Observations were filtered using the R package <i>CoordinatesCleaner</i> (Zizka <i>et al</i>. 2019) with the <i>clean_coordinates </i>function to filter for errors that are common to biological collections.</p><p>The breakdown of the number of observations by species is: <i>Cordia africana</i> (84); <i>Croton macrostachyus</i> (129); <i>Eucalyptus globulus (</i>20); <i>Faidherbia albida </i>(31); <i>Grevillea robusta </i>(350); <i>Juniperus procera </i>(115).</p>

Identification of an altitudinal migration pattern of Abies pinsapo in the Baetic Mountains through the presence of its life stages

<p>This data set is used to explore the altitudinal shift of <em>Abies pinsapo</em> Boiss. in the Baetic System. We analysed the potential distribution of the realised and reproductive niches of <em>A. pinsapo</em> populations in the Ronda Mountains (Southern Spain) by using species distribution models (SDMs) for two life stages within the current populations. The realised and reproductive niches of <em>A. pinsapo</em> are different to one another, which may indicate a displacement in its altitudinal distribution.</p>

Bonanza Creek LTER: Active Layer Depth or Permafrost Presence for the Regional Site Network

The initial goal (2000-2013) of these data was to define the presence/absence of permafrost within 2.5m of the surface in the regional site network. Efforts were focused mainly on sites where this was not easily deduced. The final subset of sites (2015 � present) are distributed across the 3 ecoregions of the RSN and primarily in older aged wet sites. The permafrost distribution in interior Alaska is discontinuous and dynamic; susceptible to fire and climate disturbances. Therefore, sites included in this long-term monitoring dataset may cease to be monitored as permafrost degrades and disappears or may be monitored again if permafrost is reestablished.

<p>This dataset was created for a publication of Wiepke, Axel and Heinemann, Birte called "A systematic literature review on user factors to support the sense of presence". RivFISH - An European database on fish species presence across river basins

<p>The RivFISH database aggregates the available data on freshwater-dependent fish presence in Europe, validated at the river basin level and considering taxonomical synonyms for species names, thus allowing for a maximization of data usage and robustness. This database also promotes interoperability with other datasets, including the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, FishBase and the Catchment Characterisation and Modelling (CCM2) &ndash; River and Catchment Database v2.1. It is, as far as the authors know, the most up-to-date and comprehensive database on the presence of freshwater-dependent fish species for European river basins. The structure of the database is also prepared to deal with future alterations in species taxonomy, as well as new records of species occurrence in river basins.</p>

Dives were conducted beginning 19th to 27th January 2018. Rotation of electron beams in the presence of localised, longitudinal magnetic fields

Test dataset for "Steam condensation scaled experiment in the presence of non-condensable gases for small modular reactor containment passive safety"

<p>This study presents scaled experiments using steam condensation with non-condensable gas (NCG)&mdash;helium (He), simulating hydrogen, and nitrogen (N<sub>2</sub>)&mdash;as these experiments are pivotal for water-cooled reactor passive containment cooling system (PCCS) design and analysis. Research into PCCSs for small modular reactors (SMRs) is especially important in light of SMR system design; however, studies in the literature reflect limitations due to test geometry and operational condition variations, without considering SMR prototypic design. To address these challenges, a scaled test facility was developed to accurately replicate SMR PCCSs. This facility includes vertical down-flow condensing test sections with 1-, 2-, and 4-in.-diameter condensing tubes, accompanied by annular water cooling. Experiments were conducted using both superheated and saturated steam, with steam mass flow rates in the presence of NCG varying from: (a) 55 to 66 kg/hr. of steam, and 1.8 to 22 kg/hr. of He (as the NCG); (b) 58 to 63 kg/hr. of steam, and 4.4 to 13.3 kg/hr. of N<sub>2</sub> (as the NCG). Test data were collected on (a) the axial temperatures of the annular cooling water; (b) the outer wall temperature of the condensers; and (c) the mass flow rate, temperature, and pressure at the test section inlets and outlets. These primary test data were used in conjunction with a standard data reduction methodology to estimate essential thermal parameters such as heat fluxes, heat transfer coefficients, and condensation rates. The effects of NCGs on steam condensation within the geometry of the scaled test sections were then presented in regard to various testing conditions.</p>

Summer 2007 survey of plant presence and abundance at fifty-five GCE LTER Hammock sites and five GCE marsh monitoring sites

Presence and abundance of plant species was determined at the six permanent monitoring transects within fifty-six GCE LTER hammock sites and five GCE LTER study sites in June-July 2007. Plant presence was determined by placing a 1 m x 1 m qaudrat at two meters from the upland border of the study site’s permanent monitoring transect and noting all species present. In the center of the quadrat, an additional 0.5 m x 0.5 m qudarat was placed to determine percent cover of each species. Plant height was also measured and recorded that the four corners of the 0.5 m x 0.5 m qudarat.

Hubbard Brook Wildlife Monitoring Project: Assessing wildlife population presence, activity and habitat use through continual camera trap monitoring, 2018

Monitoring of wildlife at Hubbard Brook is essential to understand how these species are responding to forest and environmental condition over time, while also placing those wildlife species in the context of ecosystem structural and functional attributes. The presence and persistence of wildlife species common to an area can indicate suitable habitat conditions as well as refugia for less common species. Changes in species presence and activity, such as fewer to no sightings, may point to shifting conditions not suitable to the species missing from the area. Camera trap monitoring allows for continuous, non-obtrusive observation of many different species of wildlife and can be used as part of our understanding of current suitability of habitat condition. To better understand integrated forest condition, we established a camera trap network located at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in the White Mountains of central New Hampshire. The cameras have logged over 1,500 wildlife observations, confirming the presence of many species, including those not previously reported (pine marten and river otter). A total of 15 mammal species have been detected and have also been effective at detecting some bird species, including the Northern Harrier. Natural history observations have provided insight into the lives of the species detected, including reproduction (Bull moose following cow during rut, moose calves, deer fawns), predation (red fox with snow-shoe hare) and presence of parasites (winter ticks on moose with hairless shoulders). These data were gathered as part of the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study (HBES). The HBES is a collaborative effort at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, which is operated and maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station.
