Proxy-constrained modeled AMOC from 1450-1780 CE
<p>The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) has profound impacts on the climate of the North Atlantic and the global climate at large. It plays a significant role in redistributing heat and freshwater around the globe. Real-time AMOC measurement began in 2004, providing monthly observation of the stream function. Although this observation exhibits large intra-to-multi-annual variability, the records are too short to make inferences about intra-annual AMOC variability. Here, we present a 10-member ensemble simulated AMOC from a stand-alone ocean model MPI-OM. We nudge the ocean model in the surface to proxy the reconstructed SST of Samakinwa et al., 2021, thereby leading to a proxy-constrained Modeled AMOC for the period 1450 - 1780 CE.</p>
Contamination pattern and risk assessment of polar compounds in snow melt: an integrative proxy of road runoffs
<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>To assess the contamination and potential risk of snow melt with polar compounds, road and background snow was sampled during a melting event at 23 sites at the city of Leipzig and screened for more than 500 chemicals using LC-HRMS. Additionally, six 24 h composite samples were taken from the influent and effluent of the Leipzig WWTP during the snow melt event. 207 compounds were at least detected once (concentrations between 0.80 ng/L and 75 µg/L). A toxic unit-based assessment was performed to investigate the risk of adverse environmental effects in the receiving water.</p> <p><strong>Description of the dataset</strong></p> <p>The dataset contains the list of sampling points, the target compounds, the chemical findings, the results of the toxic unit assessment, the underlying ecotoxicity data, and the estimated compound removal rates in WWTP. The data is provided in xlsx and ods formats.</p>
Dataset for "Helicity proxies from linear polarisation of solar active regions"
<p>The <span class="math-tex">\(\alpha\)</span> effect is believed to play a key role in the generation of the solar magnetic field. A fundamental test for its significance in the solar dynamo is to look for magnetic helicity of opposite signs in the two hemispheres, and at small and large scales. However, measuring magnetic helicity is compromised by the inability to fully infer the magnetic field vector from observations of solar spectra, caused by what is known as the <span class="math-tex">\(\pi\)</span> ambiguity of spectropolarimetric observations. We decompose linear polarisation into parity-even and parity-odd <em>E</em> and <em>B</em> polarisations, which are not affected by the <span class="math-tex">\(\pi \)</span> ambiguity. Furthermore, we study whether the correlations of spatial Fourier spectra of <em>B</em> and parity-even quantities such as <em>E </em>or temperature <em>T</em> are a robust proxy for magnetic helicity of solar magnetic fields. We analyse polarisation measurements of active regions observed by the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager on board the Solar Dynamics observatory. Theory predicts the magnetic helicity of active regions to have, statistically, opposite signs in the two hemispheres. We then compute the parity-odd <em>EB</em> and <em>TB</em> correlations, and test for systematic preference of their sign based on the hemisphere of the active regions. We find that: (i) <em>EB</em> and <em>TB</em> correlations are a reliable proxy for magnetic helicity, when computed from linear polarisation measurements away from spectral line cores, and (ii) <em>E</em> polarisation reverses its sign close to the line core. Our analysis reveals Faraday rotation to not have a significant influence on the computed parity-odd correlations. The <em>EB</em> decomposition of linear polarisation appears to be a good proxy for magnetic helicity independent of the <span class="math-tex">\(\pi\)</span> ambiguity. Last interglacial (MIS 5e) sea-level proxies in southeastern South America
<p>This dataset is a compilation of published last interglacial sea level indicators for the southeast coast of South America (including Uruguay, Argentina, and one site in southern Chile). We have documented 60 proxies, which includes 48 sea level index points, 11 marine limiting indicators and 1 terrestrial limiting indicator. All of these data have at least some chronological control, with radiocarbon, electron spin resonance, U/Th, amino acid racemization and OSL dating techniques. The vertical uncertainty values were assigned based on information given for measurements, and the type of deposit.</p>
Environmental proxy data from the Chap archaeological site (Kyrgyzstan)
<p>Sediment particle size, magnetic susceptibility, loss-on-ignition (LOI) and pollen data from the Chap archaeological site (described in Motuzaite Matuzeviciute et al. 2019, 2021, 2022).</p> <p>Particle size analysis using Malvern Mastersizer 2000 after treatment with HCl and H2O2.</p> <p>Particle size end members (EM 1 & 2) modelled using Analysize package (Paterson & Heslop 2015) for Matlab.</p> <p>Dimensionless magnetic susceptibility (Κ) readings were taken using a Bartington MS2B at low (0.46 kHz) and high (4.6 kHz) frequencies. Mass magnetic susceptibility (χ) was calculated by dividing Κ by sample bulk density. The percentage of frequency dependent components (χ­­<sub>fd%</sub>) was calculated as 100[(χ<sub>lf </sub>– χ<sub>hf</sub>)/χ<sub>lf</sub>].</p> <p>For LOI calculations, samples were weighed, fired at 550 degrees C for 4 hours, re-weighed then fired at 950 degrees C for 4 hours. </p> <p>Pollen was extracted following heavy liquid methods described in Leipe et al. Towards new demography proxies and regional chronologies: Radiocarbon dates from archaeological contexts located in the Czech Republic covering the period between 10,000 BC and AD 1250 (dataset)
<p>The dataset was created within the project “<em>Land use, social transformations and woodland in Central European Prehistory. Modelling approaches to human-environment interactions</em>” funded by the Czech Science Foundation (19-20970Y). This dataset represents the largest and the most comprehensive collection of archaeological radiocarbon dates from the Czech Republic to date. The dataset offers 1579 samples from 347 archaeological sites dating from Early Mesolithic (10 000 BC) to Medieval Period (AD 1250). Published in a simple spreadsheet format, the database offers researchers a quick tool for further analyses. It is important to highlight that dates we collected originated only from archaeological contexts, which means that we have excluded some radiocarbon dates produced through palaeoecological research without a direct relationship to past human activities, such as pollen records or samples from fossilized trees in river beds. The dataset is intended to be used for demographic modelling of population numbers during periods without written records, i.e. prehistory.</p>
Dataset for: Multi-scale approach to biodiversity proxies of biological control service in European farmlands
<p>Dataset for the BiodivERsA COFUND Woodned project. Information on which spatio-temporal factors are simultaneously affecting crop pests and their natural enemies is required to improve conservation biological control practices. The study was conducted in 80 winter wheat crop fields distributed in three regions of North-western Europe (Brittany, Hauts-de-France and Wallonia), along intra-regional gradients of landscape complexity. Five taxa : aphids, slugs, spiders, carabids, and parasitoids were sampled for two consecutive years. We analysed the influence of regional, landscape and local factors on the abundance and species richness of crop-dwelling organisms, as proxies of the service/disservice they provide. Firstly, there was higher biocontrol potential in areas with mild winter climatic conditions. Secondly, natural enemy communities were less diverse and had lower abundances in landscapes with high crop and wooded continuities, contrary to slugs and aphids. Finally, field boundaries with grass strips were more favourable to spiders and carabids than boundaries formed by hedges, while the opposite was found for crop pests, with the latter being less abundant towards the centre of the fields. These results are quite unexpected because they show that hedgerows and woodlots should not be the unique cornerstones of agro-ecological landscape design strategies. We point out that combining woody and grassy habitats to take full advantage of the features and ecosystem services they both provide may promote sustainable agricultural ecosystems. It may be possible to both reduce pest pressure and promote natural enemies by accounting for taxa-specific antagonistic responses to multi-scale environmental characteristics.</p>

Evaluating F10.7 and F30 Radio Fluxes as Long-Term Solar Proxies of Energy Deposition in the Thermosphere
<p><span>We use model simulations and observations to examine how well the F10.7 and F30 solar radio fluxes represent solar forcing in the thermosphere during the last 60 years of weakening solar activity. We found that increased saturation of F10.7 during the last two extended solar minima leads to an overestimation of solar energy deposition, which manifests as a change in the linear relation between thermospheric parameters and F10.7. On the other hand, the linear relation between thermospheric parameters and F30 remains nearly the same throughout the whole studied period because of a recently found relative increase of F30 with respect to F10.7. Therefore, F30 is a more consistent proxy than F10.7 during the last 60 years. We note that continued evaluation is needed to see how well F10.7 and F30 will serve as solar proxies in the future when solar activity may start increasing toward the next grand maximum.</span></p>

We provide reproducibility initiative dependencies (Artifact Description or Artifact Evaluation or Computational Results Analysis) appendix. To allow a third party to duplicate the findings, this article provides our extensive performance data artifact and describes further details regarding the software environments, experimental design, and methodology employed for the results shown in the paper. The computational artifacts will enable experienced performance engineers to reproduce and interpret the data shown in the paper in the appropriate way and to follow the conclusions we draw from it.

<p>All data used in the publication "Shell microstructures (disturbance lines) of <em>Arctica islandica</em> – A potential proxy for severe oxygen depletion" currently under review. This includes in situ environmental data from the Mecklenburg Bight, Baltic Sea (ODIN 2, Leibnitz Institute for Baltic Sea Research, https://odin2.io-warnemuende.de/), and biomineral unit (BMU) morphology measurements in scanning electron microscopy images of shells of <em>Arctica islandica</em>, as well as the BMU classifier used in Ilastik (Berg et al., 2019).</p> <p>Each BMU measurement represents summary statistics of the 15 % largest BMUs within one image (25, 50 and 75 % percentile of each BMU parameter). Environmental data were measured at 20 m water depth, ca. 5 m above the sediment surface.</p>
