Dataset of Spatial Room Impulse Responses in a Variable Acoustics Room for Six Degrees-of-Freedom Rendering and Analysis

Room acoustics measurements are used in many areas of audio research, from physical acoustics modelling and speech enhancement to virtual reality applications. This paper documents the technical specifications and choices made in the measurement of a dataset of spatial room impulse responses (SRIRs) in a variable acoustics room. Two spherical microphone arrays are used: the mh Acoustics Eigenmike em32 and the Zylia ZM-1, capable of up to fourth- and third-order Ambisonic capture, respectively. The dataset consists of three source and seven receiver positions, repeated with five configurations of the room's acoustics with varying levels of reverberation. Possible applications of the dataset include six degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) analysis and rendering, SRIR interpolation methods, and spatial dereverberation techniques.

Accompanying paper on details of the dataset measurement: https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.11882

Changelog:

V 1.0 - Initial version.
V 1.1 - SOFA files updated to latest Matlab API (1.1.3), 'SingleRoomDRIR' convention, with SourcePosition and ListenerPosition z data corrected. Room acoustics model of a listening room

This dataset contains a room acoustics model of the IEC listening room at the Technical University of Denmark. The model was generated using the room acoustics software ODEON 13.04 (www.odeon.dk). The acoustical properties of the surfaces were optimized using the ODEON genetic material optimizer after applying initial guesses and measuring impulse responses at multiple source/receiver locations.

The dataset contains all files that are needed to run room acoustic simulations in ODEON. For the result files, please contact the author.

Data Repository for MYRiAD: A Multi-Array Room Acoustic Database

In the development of acoustic signal processing algorithms, their evaluation in various acoustic environments is of utmost importance. In order to advance evaluation in realistic and reproducible scenarios, several high-quality acoustic databases have been developed over the years. In this paper, we present another complementary database of acoustic recordings, referred to as the Multi-arraY Room Acoustic Database (MYRiAD). The MYRiAD database is unique in its diversity of microphone configurations suiting a wide range of enhancement and reproduction applications (such as assistive hearing, teleconferencing, or sound zoning), the acoustics of the two recording spaces, and the variety of contained signals including 1214 room impulse responses (RIRs), reproduced speech, music, and stationary noise, as well as recordings of live cocktail parties held in both rooms. The microphone configurations comprise a dummy head (DH) with in-ear omnidirectional microphones, two behind-the-ear (BTE) pieces equipped with 2 omnidirectional microphones each, 5 external omnidirectional microphones (XMs), and two concentric circular microphone arrays (CMAs) consisting of 12 omnidirectional microphones in total. The two recording spaces, namely the SONORA Audio Laboratory (SAL) and the Alamire Interactive Laboratory (AIL), have reverberation times of 2.1s and 0.5s, respectively. Audio signals were reproduced using 10 movable loudspeakers in the SAL and a built-in array of 24 loudspeakers in the AIL. MATLAB and Python scripts are included for accessing the signals as well as microphone and loudspeaker coordinates. ASN Database - v3.2 - Database of Simulated Room Impulse Responses for Acoustic Sensor Networks Deployed in Complex Multi-Source Acoustic Environments

We present a large set of simulated room impulse responses for a multi-room apartment. The simulated apartment models a real vacation apartment for which a recorded set of audio data has already been made available in the context of the DCASE challenges. The impulse responses were rendered using a dense grid of sources and receivers by means of a hybrid auralization algorithm based on a low-order image-source method and deterministic cone tracing. The proposed data set can be used to generate a wide variety of acoustic scenes which, in turn, can benefit numerous data-demanding machine-learning algorithms.

To obtain more information on the database, please visit the website.
Please read the license file (available in the GitHub repository) before using the database.

EduRa database: room models based on room acoustic measurements in primary and preschools

This database provides five representative rooms in primary schools and preschools for acoustic simulations. A set of (binaural) room impulse responses (RIRs) simulated using an adult and a child artificial head are included for each room.

Room acoustic measurements were carried out in Aachen’s primary schools and preschools, where 8 classrooms, 10 playrooms, 3 gyms, 3 multi-purpose rooms and 3 sports rooms were assessed. The dimensions and room acoustic parameters were then clustered to achieve five representative sceneries. Shoebox models with little furniture were created using the average dimension of each cluster, and room acoustic simulations yielding for the average reverberation time of each cluster were done to obtain the (binaural) RIRs.

Dataset of impulse responses from variable acoustics room Arni at Aalto Acoustic Labs

A dataset of impulse responses collected in the variable acoustics laboratory Arni at Acoustics Lab of Aalto University, Espoo, Finland.

IRs of 5342 configurations of sound absorption in Arni are included in the dataset. Each of them were measured using an omnidirectional sound source and 5 sound receivers. For each configuration, 5 IRs were captured. The total number of measurements in the dataset is 132 037.

For more information and the reverberation time values estimated from the IRs, please see the paper "Calibrating the Sabine and Eyring formulas" by Karolina Prawda, Sebastian J. Schlecht, and Vesa Välimäki, in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America

The work leading to producing the dataset and related research was supported by the Nordic Sound and Music Computing Network---NordicSMC, NordForsk project number 86892.

How to read the files in the dataset:

The general style of file naming is:
IR_numClosed_NumberOfReflectivePanels_numComb_CombinationNumber_mic_ReceiverNumber_sweep_SweepNumber
for example, for 1 reflective panel, combination 87, IR obtained from 3rd out of 5 sweeps recorded by microphone number 2, the filename is:
IR_numClosed_1_numComb_87_mic_2_sweep_3.wav

The dataset was divided into several files due to its total size. The files included in each .zip file are indicated in its name.

If some of the sound files are missing, e.g. for a certain combination and microphone there are 4 IR recordings instead of 5, it means that the sweep was discarded in the pre-processing phase due to non-stationary noise.
Read more: Karolina Prawda, Sebastian J. Schlecht, and Vesa Välimäki, "Robust selection of clean swept-sine measurements in non-stationary noise", The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America 151, 2117-2126 (2022), doi: https://doi.org/10.1121/10.0009915

The specific combinations with indication whether the panel was in a reflective (represented by figure 0) or an absorptive (represented by figure 1) state are listed in combinations_setup.csv file.
The first column contains the combination number (0--5341), the first row is the panel number (1--55).

Arni_panels_numbers.pdf contains a diagram showing the panel numbers and locations.

Arni_layout.jpg contains a drawing specifying the positions of source source, sound receivers, and other elements of the interior.
