Global scientific research commons under the Nagoya Protocol: Towards a collaborative economy model for the sharing of basic research assets
<p>This paper aims to get a better understanding of the motivational and transaction cost features of<br /> building global scientific research commons, with a view to contributing to the debate on the design of<br /> appropriate policy measures under the recently adopted Nagoya Protocol. For this purpose, the paper<br /> analyses the results of a world-wide survey of managers and users of microbial culture collections, which<br /> focused on the role of social and internalized motivations, organizational networks and external<br /> incentives in promoting the public availability of upstream research assets. Overall, the study confirms<br /> the hypotheses of the social production model of information and shareable goods, but it also shows the<br /> need to complete this model. For the sharing of materials, the underlying collaborative economy in<br /> excess capacity plays a key role in addition to the social production, while for data, competitive pressures<br /> amongst scientists tend to play a bigger role.</p>
Dataset of relationship of collaboration and scientific impact
<p>This dataset was used as part of results of an scientific article whom abstract is:</p> <p>The relationship between international collaboration and scientific impact is studied in the context of South American universities. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the strength of this relationship using nonparametric statistical methods. The records are the 244300 papers published in journals indexed in Scopus (2011-2020) by researchers affiliated to 10 South American public universities and extracted with Scival support. There is a marked trend of collaborative work, since 93% of publications were collaborative at institutional, national or international level, with a higher percentage of international collaboration. A refined analysis of the geographic collaboration of publications in Q1 journals further evidences the frequency of international collaboration. In the top 4 collaborating partner institutions for each university, the presence of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique of France<br> (CNRS) is observed, followed by the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina (Conicet). It is proven that there is a statistically significant relationship (p < .01) in each of the 10 universities between collaboration (number of<br> countries) and normalized impact (FWCI). The results confirmed the hypothesis of this study and the authors provide practical recommendations for science policy makers and researchers, including the promotion of strategic collaboration between different<br> institutional sectors of society to increase the impact of publications.</p>

<p>The Science Mesh enables researchers, educators, data curators and analysts to retain control over their remote or domestic datasets, while becoming FAIR compatible and integrated with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) at the same time. This will offer researchers opportunities to assemble an efficient, reliable, collaborative and transparent research tool chain. Our target stakeholders will be able to directly access the service provided by Science Mesh from easy-to-use interfaces and discover the different functionalities. The added-value for the stakeholders of CS3MESH4EOSC relies on the possibility for them to contribute in developing application plugins or easily set-up federations in their own scope and develop their own activities on top of them.</p>

Hypothetical Git workflows for simple scientific collaboration
<p>These diagrams illustrate three common workflow scenarios of a relatively simple empirical study with a maximum of three authors using Git/Github versioning tools. Their design was informed by Ram's (2013) body of work. The first scenario is the same as the three-author hypothesis proposed by Ram (2013).</p> <p>In the other two hypothetical scenarios, a single author's workflow is examined. In the first, he coordinates and manages changes with the remote repository from the start of the study, and in the second, he only does this when it comes time to publish the research's materials, data, and history of changes.</p> <p>Six .JPG files, in English (_EN) and Brazilian Portuguese (_PT), depict these three potential scenarios. The repository also contains a .PPTX file that can be edited if the reader wants to utilize any of the figures, either as a basis for additional diagrams or to change the figure's colors.</p>

The structure and dynamics of scientific collaborations in Europe (PhD. Dataset)
<p>The dataset comprises articles used in the qualitative analysis within the doctoral thesis entitled The Structure and Dynamics of Scientific Collaborations in Europe (Pințoiu-Mihăilă Bianca-Elena, 2023). These articles capture networks of authors and co-authors who have published on COVID-19 between 2020 and 2021. They also encompass information regarding the relationship between the number of prevention measures recommended by researchers and those implemented by the Romanian, Italian, or Swedish governments. The articles were found on the Web of Science using a search algorithm incorporating keywords such as COVID-19 and [country], publication year (for 2020 and 2021), document type (articles), Web of Science Category (Multidisciplinary Science, Sociology, and all other categories containing the term "policy"), sorted by country.</p>
