Dataset: Sex differences in the impact of social relationships on individual vocal signatures in grey mouse lemurs
<p>Dataset used in the statistical analysis of the publication "Sex differences in the impact of social relationships on individual vocal signatures in grey mouse lemurs (<em>Microcebus murinus</em>)"</p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>Vocali<span>z</span>ations coordinate social interactions between conspecifics by conveying information concerning the individual or group identity of the sender. Social accommodation is a form of vocal learning where social affinity is signalled by converging or diverging vocali<span>z</span>ations to those of conspecifics. To investigate whether social accommodation is linked to the social lifestyle of the sender, we investigated sex-specific differences in social accommodation in a dispersed living primate, the grey mouse lemur, where females form stable sleeping groups whereas males live solitarily. We used 482 trill calls of 36 individuals from our captive breeding colony to compare acoustic dissimilarity between individuals with genetic relatedness, social contact time and body weight. Our results showed that female trills become more similar the more time females spen<span>d</span> with each other independent of genetic relationship, suggesting vocal convergence. In contrast, male trills were affected more by genetic than social factors. However, focus<span>s</span>ing only on sociali<span>z</span>ed males, male trills diverged from each other the more time males were cage partners. Survey on the social impact of the citizen science in the projects LIFE MIPP and InNat
<p>The present dataset consists in a sociological survey addressed to the volunteers involved in MIPP and InNat projects, a citizen science initiative aimed at the collection of distribution data of protected species and habitats all over Italian national territory. In particular, two different files are provided: </p> <ol> <li>the original survey (questions and answers) addressed to the volunteers in Italian</li> <li>the English translation of the questionnaire </li> </ol> <p>The survey covers different topics: socio-demographic data (section 1), opinions on the role of volunteering in a citizen science project (section 2), possible previous citizen science experience (section 3), test on the acquired skills on the monitored insect species with MIPP/InNat (section 4), opinions concerning the ecological crisis and the trust in the ability of humankind to solve environmental issues (section 5), possibility to be further contacted for additional interviews (section 6).</p> <p>A total of 364 completed questionnaires have been collected and relative results are provided here. Moreover, the above-mentioned results are thoroughly investigated and analysed in a scientific paper which also explores drivers that might keep volunteers active in a biodiversity monitoring project. Indeed, the engagement of volunteers in citizen science projects is a remarkable issue to address in order to ensure long-term sustainability, scientific relevance and public participation.</p> <p>The MIPP/InNat initiative started in 2012, with the project MIPP “Monitoring of insects with public participation” (LIFE11 NAT/IT/000252) which ended in 2017, and was then continued by the InNat project thanks to Italian National fundings. Data gathered in both projects converged in the same database. <p>This is a basic set of variables used in the paper "The long-term impact of church activity on social capital: lessons from post-war Czechoslovakia", co-authored by Štěpán Mikula (Masaryk Unversity, IZA), Fabio Sabatini (Sapienza University of Rome, IZA), and Tommaso Reggiani (Cardiff University, Masaryk Unversity, IZA). The impacts of management interventions on the sociality of African lions (Panthera leo): implications for lion conservation
<ol> <li>African lion (<em>Panthera leo</em>) populations normally consist of several neighbouring prides and multiple adult males or groups of males that interact competitively. In large, open systems, cub defence from infanticidal males and territory defence drive group living in lions. However, in smaller (< 1,000 km<sup>2</sup>), fenced wildlife reserves, opportunities for natural immigration and emigration are limited which means that the evolutionary drivers of lion sociality may collapse.</li> <li>Here, we use lion behavioural data collected from 16 wildlife reserves across South Africa to test how management-induced ecological conditions alter lion social dynamics.</li> <li>The number of lionesses observed together was best predicted by pride size, prey biomass and biome. Lionesses were less likely to group together as pride size increased, but more likely to group together as prey biomass and habitat productivity increased. In addition, adult males were observed more frequently with prides that had young (< 12 months) cubs in reserves that had unfamiliar adult males present compared to reserves without any unfamiliar adult males.</li> </ol> <p>Our results demonstrate how intra-specific competition between lions drives their sociality, and this may break down in small, fenced wildlife reserves where lions are actively managed. Although small, fenced reserves in South Africa have made a significant contribution to increasing lion numbers on the continent, our work highlights several important ecological implications of active lion management. For wildlife managers, mimicking the outcomes of different levels of intra-specific competition is likely a critical management tool for the persistence of lions in small reserves.</p>

Spatiotemporal impacts of ideology and social vulnerability on COVID-19 for the United States
<p><span>In early 2020, the Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) rapidly spread across the United States, exhibiting significant geographic </span><span>variability. While several studies have examined the predictive relationships of differing factors on COVID-19 deaths, few have </span><span>looked at spatiotemporal variation at refined geographic scales. The objective of this analysis is to examine county-level </span><span>spatiotemporal variation of COVID-19 deaths in association with socioeconomic, health, demographic, and political factors, </span><span>using regionalized multivariate regression as well as nationwide geographically weighted random forest (GWRF) models. </span><span>Regionalized regression results across three time windows—pandemic onset until May 2021, May 2021 through November </span><span>2021, and December 2021 until April 2022—suggest that existing measures of social vulnerability for disaster preparedness </span><span>(SVI) are associated with a higher degree of mortality from COVID-19. In comparison, GWRF models provide a more robust </span><span>evaluation of feature importance and prediction, exposing the importance of local features, such as obesity, which is obscured </span><span>by regional delineation. Overall, GWRF results indicate this more nuanced modeling strategy is useful for capturing the diverse </span><span>spatial and temporal nature of the COVID-19 pandemic.</span></p>
The Pontifical Bolivarian University and 2030 Agenda: Scientific production, access modalities, and social media impact.
<p><span>The 2030 Agenda and SDGs promote global resilience. Universities play a crucial role in their implementation through research and education. Recent studies analyze SDG-related scientific production, but evaluating the accessibility and social impacts of these results remains lacking. The article aims to analyze the intersection between SDGs, open access, and social impact of science, based on an analysis of PBU academic production in Colombia. A mixed-method approach is employed, combining quantitative and qualitative elements with scientometric techniques and data mining analysis, as well as big data from the perspective of Social Sciences. PBU scientific production analysis reveals increased research activity, with most publications available in open access. Thematic focuses such as health, sustainable development, and energy are highlighted. Thematic diversity reflects a multidisciplinary approach, but there is low production in key areas of sustainable development. Social media attention highlights topics like health, equality, and energy. Open access shows a strong correlation with online attention, emphasizing its importance in amplifying research impact. Although closed research also receives online attention, especially from academics. Greater focus is needed on inclusive publishing strategies and social media dissemination to address global challenges.</span></p>
Does the social distancing measures impact collaboration in software processes?
<p>Context: Social distancing measures to reduce the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic bring challenges for several organizations<br> and their Information Systems (IS). Problem: Social distancing were suddenly implemented, with no adequate planning. Furthermore, there is not a clear understanding of the impacts of social distancing measures on the software development teams’ work. Solution: This study aims to identify the presence and impacts of social distancing on collaboration between people, as well as<br> on activities and technologies used in software development, from the perspective of professionals who work in software development teams. IS Theory: The research was developed under the aegis of the Team Resilience Theory. Method: A field study was conducted based on structured interviews and qualitative analysis. Results: In general, it was observed no impact on the software processes activities, although their performance was affected. It was also observed that the impact on the collaboration dynamics in software development was perceived in different ways, by several team members. This study identified the most common tools used by organizations, as well as the benefits and challenges of collaboration in software development after social distancing measures. Contribution: The impacts of social distancing on collaboration in software development were identified, reinforcing the Team Resilience Theory and similar study conducted in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study contributes to the Grand Research Challenge "Systemic and Socially Aware Perspective for Information Systems".</p>
Impact of a pulmonary rehabilitation program on social disadvantage and physical activity data of postCOVID19 patients: A North-African pilot study
<p><strong>WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN</strong></p> <ul> <li>In post-acute COVID19, many patients still manifest symptoms for weeks and months.</li> <li>Psychological manifestations are prevalent and persisting in recovered COVID19 patients.</li> <li>Indeed, COVID19 was reported to possibly lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety, and to alter health-related quality of life (HRQoL).</li> <li>Physical activity has been proven to be effective in improving both mental and physical health.</li> <li>Thus, COVID19 patients could benefit from pulmonary rehabilitation program (PRP).</li> <li>Many studies related the effects of a standard PRP on physical activity and HRQoL in post COVID19 patients. However, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, no study evaluated the physical activity and social disadvantage of patients who were hospitalized for COVID19 in a low income country.</li> <li>This paper is the second part of a cross sectional study that aimed to evaluate the impact of a PRP on social disadvantage (physical activity, hospital anxiety and depression (HAD), HRQoL) data of Tunisian patients with postCOVID19.</li> </ul> <p><strong>WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS</strong></p> <ul> <li>The present North African study demonstrated that a PRP improved HRQoL, HAD, and physical activity data of Tunisian COVID19 patients.</li> <li>For instance, the means of the functional, psychological and relation dimensions, and the VQ11 total score (ie; main outcome) decreased significantly by 1.79, 2.00, 1.57, and 5.36 points. In addition, the means of the HAD anxiety and depression scores decreased significantly by 2.07, and 2.57 points, respectively, and the means of the physical activity and total scores improved significantly by 1.75 and 1.78 points, respectively.</li> <li>To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first African and Arab study investigating the impact of a PRP on postcovid19 patients in terms of social disadvantages and physical activity.</li> <li> </li> </ul> <ul> <li>This study confirms that an outpatient PRP program improves physical activity, psychological status and HRQoL in the management of postCOVID19 patients.</li> </ul>

The impact of social complexity on the efficacy of natural selection in termites
<p>This repository contains the dataset and markdown files necessary to reproduce the analysis conducted for the article entitled <em>Social evolution in termites reduces natural selection efficacy</em> (NEW TITLE: <em>The impact of social complexity on the efficacy of natural selection in termites</em>). It includes both raw and processed data, as well as all scripts used in the analysis, organized by the order of execution. Instructions for setting up the environment and running the scripts are provided to facilitate replication of the results.</p> <p>Here, we look at the distribution of dN/dS within Blattodea and Isoptera in order to test for a positive relationship with eusociality.</p> <p>The file <strong>analysis.html</strong> is a R-markdown file describing step by step the analysis of the submitted manuscript. Alternative metrics and social impact of research about Social Sciences in Cuba
<p>The evaluation of social impact of research is a subject demanded by the scientific and social community. The present research is developed with the objective of describing the social impact of the results of scientific research in the field of Social Sciences in Cuba. 5 dimensions of analysis and 16 alternative indicators were used, through the use of altmetric tools and data sources. The sample collection for the study was carried out through the Scopus database and the altmetric data provider PlumX Metrics. For the analysis, statistical techniques of trend and correlation between indicators, data visualization and scientific information were used. The results show that the indicators with the greatest presence were citations in Scopus and CrossRef, Views count, Full Text Views, Abstract Views, Readers in Mendeley captures and the social network metrics Facebook and Twitter. The research results with the greatest social impact are related to climate change and environmental policy, scientific production about COVID-19, higher education, sustainable development, gender studies, legislation, and tourism.</p>

Impacts of fungal disease on dyadic social interactions in a wild agamid lizard
<p><span>Emerging infectious fungal diseases are responsible for the extinction of myriad species across a range of phyla. As recently shown by the COVID-19 pandemic, social transmission can be key to disease spread, and in this context, humans are not alone in trying to be alone. In group-living species, individuals have been shown to use social behaviour to avoid infection; diseased individuals can isolate from the group, or healthy animals can avoid diseased conspecifics. However, to date, little is known about social behaviour as a mechanism to avoid fungal infection. In this study, we investigate the extent to which wild urban eastern water dragons (<em>Intellagama lesueurii</em>), a gregarious reptile, modify their social behaviour as a response to infection with a recently emerged infectious fungal disease, caused by the pathogen <em>Nannizziopsis barbatae</em>. Using individual data from a long-term study population inhabiting Roma Street Parkland in Brisbane's Central Business District (QLD, Australia) and focal sampling, we test whether dragons exhibit self-isolation and social distancing behaviours in the context of dyadic social approach events. Statistical analyses of data collected </span><span>from 633 observations of 123 unique individuals (78 non-diseased, 45 diseased) during 2020 – 2021 suggested that while the presence of the fungal disease had no effect on individuals' social behaviour, the severity of the fungal disease did significantly affect individuals' social behaviour. Specifically, we found that (i) diseased individuals were no less social than their non-diseased conspecifics, (ii) </span><span>non-diseased individuals did not avoid or spend less time with diseased conspecifics,</span><span> and (iii) models considering the severity of skin lesions caused by <em>Nannizziopsis barbatae, </em>instead of their presence or absence, suggested that individuals avoided more severely diseased conspecifics regardless of their own disease status</span><span>. </span><span> <span>These findings warrant further investigation, given the evidence that many species have displayed behavioural adaptations to disease, and the increasing risk posed by emerging infectious fungal diseases.</span></span></p>

<p>We investigated the effects of prolonged chronic social isolation stress on behavioral, cognitive, and physiological performance in the social, long-lived rodent <em>Octodon degus</em>. Degu pups were separated into two social stress treatments: control (CTRL) and chronically isolated (CI) individuals from post-natal and post-weaning until adulthood. We quantified anxiety-like behavior and cognitive performance with behavioral tests. Additionally, we measured their basal metabolic rate (BMR). Data include behavioral tests and physiological traits (body mass and Basal Metabolic Rate).</p>
