Global peatland, bare rock and bare sand extent at 100 m to 1 km spatial resolution based on multisource data

Ensemble estimate of the global distribution of peatlands / extent (peatland.extent_wri.gfw.peatgrids_p). This is a simple average from three (3) sources of data:

WRI Global Peatlands extent map at 30-m (250-m effective);

PEATGRIDS at 1-km;

Global Peatlands Map 2.0 produced by the Global Peatlands Initiative;

The average between the three sources is an extent map with value 0–100%. The refence period is 2000–2020, although probably most of data is based on pre 2010. For more details about the source data please refer to the cited references below.

Bare rock and bare sand estimates are based on the following two sources of data:

Copernicus GLC land cover at 100-m for 2015 and 2019;

Local Climate zones map at 100-m for 2018;

Two classes are considered: (1) probability of occurrence of bare rock (bare.rock_glc.gfz_p), (2) probability of occurrence of bare sand i.e. shifting sand (bare.soil.sand_glc.gfz_p). We recommend using only the 1-km data for spatial modeling.

The time-series of bare areas (bare.areas_esa.cci_p) are based on the ESA CCI Land Cover time-series (2000–2022) 300-m resolution data; also available at 1-km resolution based on "average" resampling.

Global Pasture Watch - Annual grassland class and extent maps at 30-m spatial resolution (2000—2024)

Assessment of the spatial extent of local active noise control - dataset

Experiment setup, data and supplementary scripts for the listening experiment "Assessment of the spatial extent of local active noise control" in Feb. 2023 at the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics in Graz, Austria

A listening experiment has been conducted, trying to find the spatial extents of local active noise control (ANC). Participants were instructed to move their heads along the x-axis or rotate clock- and counterclockwise (yaw). A button had to be pressed if the perceived zone of comfort is left, and the current position was recorded. This task was repeated for different controlled bandwidths, signals and source directions. Additionally, scripts to generate the ANC filters, a brief statistical analysis and recordings at several positions for different stimuli/conditions are provided. Acoustic measures at the point of cancellation and at various other positions are further analyzed with and without ANC.

A Multi-Challenge Clustering Benchmark Dataset Embedding Large Differences in Spatial Extent

This artificial clustering benchmark dataset was designed manually and draws its inspiration from structural aspects that can be seen in principal component plots of hyperspectral image data. Distance-separated, density-separated, gradient-separated as well as connected clusters have been placed into the dataset. Following the notion that clusters may vary significantly with respect to their spatial extent the respective separability problems are scaled at different levels and only become visible by magnifying certain parts of the dataset. Another special aspect of this dataset is that cluster borders have been kept rather ambiguous which, in our opinion, better resembles the situation in spectroscopic data.

Urban area age and coefficient of variation of spatial area extent

The dataset contains an proxy for the age of urban area and the coefficient of variation of its spatial extent as proxy for spatial dynamics. Both variables are studied as key to conceptualize the process of urbanization by means of clusters of local spatial autocorrelation. The analysis is based on the HYDE 3.1 database, cf. Klein Goldewijk et al. (2010), Klein Goldewijk et al. (2011).

The spatial extent and the dispersal strategy of species shape the occupancy frequency distribution of stream insect assemblages

This is the datasets and R script for our manuscript titled "The spatial extent and the dispersal strategy of species shape the occupancy frequency distribution of stream insect assemblages."

Study area and sampling of Mecsek_species_Szivaketal.xlsx data

The study area is situated in the Mecsek Mountains in Hungary. Stream insects were collected using the kick and sweep sampling technique. A hand net with a frame width of 25 cm and a mesh size of 1000 µm was employed. The collection involved disturbing an area of 0.25 × 0.25 m. We employed a stratified random multihabitat sampling procedure. We collected 20 sample units from the major microhabitats in proportion to their occurrence within the reaches. Each sample unit was individually processed and sorted in the laboratory to ensure thorough and accurate analysis.

Disperse_trait_Szivaketal.xlsx data is based on DISPERSE database (Sarremejane et al., 2020)

Methods for microhabitat_coverage_reach_transect.xlsx: Prior to sampling, we divided each 100 m long reach into 20 transects of comparable length and created microhabitat coverage maps. Active gas seepage in western Spitsbergen fjords, Svalbard archipelago: spatial extent and geological controls

The following digital data package is provided as part of the submission of the publication Rodes et al. (2023) Active gas seepage in western Spitsbergen fjords, Svalbard archipelago: spatial extent and geological controls, considered for publication in the journal Frontiers in Earth Science. The dataset contains the distribution and characteristics of the gas flares observed during the HE-449 cruise in 2015 and the GASGEM cruise in 2021. Moreover, it contains the interpreted outcropping areas of the geological units in Isfjorden and Van Mijenfjorden. Each dataset is provided in GeoJSON, Geopackage and Shapefile file extensions. Finally, we provide a minimal working example to calculate the flare density per multibeam area of outcropping geological units.
