Increased inflammation and oxidative stress caused by accumulated metal particle exposure among metro station staff, Tianjin, China, 2023
Metro is a significant part of world transport, delivering over 58 billion passengers annually. The dilution effect of particulate matter (PM) from natural ventilation was limited in underground metro stations. What's worse, train operation processes generated PM rich in heavy metals. Though PM pollution in metro stations was reported widely, there is limited evidence of the adverse health effect of metro station PM. This dataset collected urinary samples from 74 metro station staff from three different metro stations in Tianjin, China, for inflammation and oxidative stress biomarker tests to better understand the potential health effects induced by metal particulates in metro stations. Also, an indoor air quality survey was conducted simultaneously in the metro stations.

Predictors of medical staff's knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of dysphagia assessment: A cross-sectional study

This study aimed to develop training resources and standardize the assessment of dysphagia in patients with stroke. This study was a cross-sectional study. A total of 430 nurses and doctors from four provinces(Guangdong Province, Hunan Province, Guangxi Province, and Shaanxi Province) who were selected by convenience sampling were invited to complete the questionnaire through WeChat, DingTalk, and Tencent QQ from May 23 to 31, 2022. A self-reported questionnaire was used to assess participants' Knowledge, Attitude, and Behavior regarding dysphagia. Participants' sociodemographic, training, and nursing experience were measured using the general information sheet and assessed as potential predictors of medical staff's Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior of dysphagia assessment. A multiple linear regression model was used to identify the factors predicting medical staff's Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior regarding dysphagia assessment. The mean scores for Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior of dysphagia assessments were 92.654(SD 17.519). Multiple linear regression results indicated that experience in dysphagia patients' nursing, related training for dysphagia, working years in the field of dysphagia-related diseases, specialized training in geriatric, swallowing & rehabilitation, and department related to neurology, rehabilitation & elderly were significant predictors, accounting for 35.1% of the variance in scores of medical staff's Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior of dysphagia assessment. Our findings imply that nursing experience, training, and work for patients with swallowing disorders could have positive effects on the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior of medical staff regarding dysphagia assessment. Hospital administrators should provide relevant resources, such as videos of dysphagia assessment, training centers for the assessment of dysphagia, and swallowing specialist nurses. It is important that health policies fully recognize the role of training and support systems in caring for people with dysphagia.

Microblogging violent attacks on medical staff: A case study of the Longmen County People’s Hospital incident, an indication of a health care crisis in China

A violent attack on medical staff in Guangdong Province, in which a female doctor at Longmen County People’s Hospital (LCPH) was severely injured by a knife-wielding patient, has drawn significant public attention to the phenomenon of hospital violence and initiated discussions on how to resolve violence in hospitals. Social networking sites, such as Sina Weibo, a Chinese version of Twitter, have played a role in this public debate. The incident at LCPH provides an opportunity to examine how Weibo has been used in the debate about violence against medical staff in China. Using the Sina Weibo’s built-in search tool, we established a dataset of 661 Chinese-language micro-blogs containing the search terms: Longmen (“龙门”), doctor (“医生”), and slash (“砍”) that were posted between July 15, 2015, the date of the violent incident at LCPH, and August 15, 2015. We performed a content analysis of the micro-blogs to examine: users’ demographics, attitudes toward the injured doctor and the attacker, possible reasons for the hospital violence, and proposed measures for preventing doctors from violent incidents.

Attitudes of Staff Involved in Dental Radiological Procedures in Georgia Towards Radiation Protection and Safety: A Questionnaire-Based Study

Objectives: To investigate dentist’s perceptions and attitudes regarding radiation safety in dental practices in Georgia.

Methods: More than 100 dentists involved in dental X-ray diagnostic procedures across the country participated in this study. The questionnaire was submitted via Google form, a total of 17 key questions with relevant sub-questions. Further data were evaluated according to the frequency distribution. An anonymous survey was conducted regarding the following areas: years of practice, types and characteristics of the radiography equipment, knowledge of BSS and national regulations, prescription of dental radiographs, use of radiation protection equipment, participation in the radiation safety training program and etc.

Results: The obtained data are presented in the form of tables and diagrams. Analysis of the answers showed a fairly high level of knowledge and responsibility for radiation safety among all survey participants. A certain difference in the answers depends both on work experience, education and on a number of other factors, for the study of which additional research is needed.

Conclusions: This article is the first study in Georgia conducted jointly by a scientific organization, a national regulatory authority, as well as educational and professional structures. The analysis of the results of the presented questionnaire, on the one hand, allows the assessment of mandatory knowledge of radiation protection and safety issues of the target personnel. On the other hand, such feedback based on statistical data is a prerequisite for the revision of possible further regulatory requirements. Staff awareness issues involve the involvement of the relevant professional associations, which will allow it to strengthen the requirements for its members in the long run, as well as better analyze existing practices.
