Desk research of 107 case studies on state-of-the-art of cultural tourism interventions

The aim of Work Package 3 of the SmartCulTour project (www.smartcultour.eu) is to provide a state-of-the-art overview of cultural tourism interventions implemented in European cities and regions, thereby identifying best practices and the impacts and success conditions of cultural tourism interventions. To this end, the consortium identified 107 interesting cultural tourism interventions throughout Europe, with a geographical coverage of: Belgium (9), Italy (8), The Netherlands (8), Serbia (7), Romania (6), Croatia (5), Hungary (4), Portugal (4), Spain (4), United Kingdom (4), Finland (3), France (3), Sweden (3), Other countries (24), Multiple countries (15). The "Overview and taxonomy of 107 interventions" lists every intervention that was studied, as well as their respective classification given, based on the description and objective of the intervention. Within this table, a value of "1" is its primary categorization, with a value of "2" assigned to a secondary taxonomy. Each intervention can have multiple purposes and therefore belong to different categories.The taxonomy of cultural tourism interventions is further described in "State of the art of cultural tourism interventions" (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.5270321).

The 107 cultural tourism interventions were analyzed via desk research only during the period September 2020-January 2021, based on available secondary data and following a standardized data collection form. This form is included here as "Internal data collection form used for analysis". The forms collect data on:

Context and background information;

The 'reason why' of the intervention;

The intervention;

Resources and tools necessary to design and implement the interventions;

Impacts (expected, perceived and measured);

(Perceived) success conditions and limiting factors.

The zip-file "Internal forms of 107 interventions" contains all 107 completed data collection forms.

Map of ecological sites and ecological states for pastures 1, 4, 14, and 15 on the Chihuahuan Desert Rangeland Research Center, New Mexico
This data package includes an ArcMap geodatabase for the Chihuahuan Desert Rangeland Research Center (CDRRC) pastures 1, 4, 14, and 15: one polygon feature class, one point feature class, associated attribute tables and metadata. The spatial data, CDRRC1_4_14_15_StateMap_v1.gdb.zip, represents the ecological sites and states on Pastures 1, 4, 14 and 15 on the Chihuahuan Desert Rangeland Research Center, and includes field traverse data. CDRRC1_4_14_15_StateMapMetadata.pdf and TraversePointsMetadata.pdf contain the geospatial metadata provided by ArcMap. CDRRC1_4_14_15_StateMap_v1.csv is the attribute table associated with the state map’s polygon feature class, and TraversePoints.xlsx is the attribute table associated with the traverse points feature class and includes a sheet containing detailed attribute metadata.
Highlights from 10+ years of lichenological research in Great Smoky Mountains National Park: celebrating the United States National Park Service Centennial

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is renowned as one of the most biologically diverse tracts of land in North America and is the most visited national park in the United States. The park comprises ∼830 square miles, epitomizes eastern temperate hardwood forests of North America, and serves as a refuge for nearly 20,000 documented species from microbes to plants and mammals. Lichens comprise one particularly diverse group of organisms in the park. In this study, we review data from our 11 years of lichenological research in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Based on approximately 6,000 new field collections generated, the park checklist now includes 920 species, a 129% increase over estimates made two decades ago. Nearly a quarter of the lichens reported in the park are known from only a single occurence whereas only 7% of the lichens are known from 20 or more occurences. An assessment of commonness/rarity for all 920 species indicates that nearly half of the park's lichens should be considered to be infrequent, rare, or exceptionally rare. We assessed the distributions of all 920 species and found that 54 are endemic to the southeastern United States, 30 are endemic to the southern Appalachians, and eight occur nowhere else than within the confines of the national park. We discuss biogeographical affinities of the park's lichen biota as a whole, delimiting six regional "floristic" connections. Our 11 years of research have resulted in the discovery of several species presumed to be extinct or near-extinct. We make one new combination (Fuscopannaria frullaniae) and describe five species as new to science, each commemorating National Park Service staff instrumental to the completion of the study: Heterodermia langdoniana, Lecanora darlingiae, Lecanora sachsiana, Leprocaulon nicholsiae, and Pertusaria superiana.

This data set is the MongoDB dump (bson files) of the data created and analyzed with the rsps framework. In the first step, a research subject is assigned to the research software repositories. Afterwards, the current sustainability state is evaluated. The data set comprises the following six bson files:

repositories: metadata, received from the GitHub REST API, for repositories containing the search terms "doi+10" or "doi+10+in:readme", additional information are the request date, the contained search term, and the repository hosting service, in this case for all repositories "github". For repositories the Readme files are available.

publications: metadata of publications, published on arXiv and ACM, that contain the search term "github.com".

rs_repositories: research software candidates containing a DOI or that are referenced by the publications contained in the publications data set.

rs_artifacts: research software artifacts that are referenced in the harvested GitHub repositories by a DOI and the harvested publications.

publication_subjects: All Science Journal Classification (ASJC) of Scopus combined with the Scopus source list and Scopus book title list (https://www.scopus.com/home.uri)

arxiv_subjects: arXiv taxonomy complemented with the ASJC research subject.
