CGR01 Sweep sampling of Grasshoppers on Konza Prairie LTER watersheds in 1981 only

Sweep samples for estimating grasshopper (Acrididae) composition and relative abundance at one site for each of 12 Konza Prairie LTER fire/grazing/soil treatment combinations (3 fire treatments x 2 soils x 2 grazing treatments). Samples were collected in June, August, and September. At each site on each occasion, 18 sets of 10 sweeps each (180 sweeps total) were taken. Stored data include for each site on each occasion: total number of each species (all instars combined) collected and total number for each instar for each species (180 sweeps combined).

CGR02 Sweep sampling of Grasshoppers on Konza Prairie LTER watersheds

Sweep samples were taken for grasshoppers (Acrididae) at two sites for each of 14 Konza Prairie LTER watersheds. Samples are taken in late July to early August. At each site on each occasion, 10 sets of 20 sweeps (200 sweeps total) are taken. Stored data include for each site on each occasion: total number of each species (all instars combined) collected and total number for each instar for each species (200 sweeps combined).

CBS04 Sweep sample data: prey estimates for Grasshopper Sparrows on Konza Prairie

This data set includes data on the contents of sweep samples. We collected sweeps in select years during May, June, and/or July in 3 locations on each of the focal watersheds. Sweeps were 80m long and centered at veg points. Data consist of information about the sampling events, and sample wet mass, edible mass (combined mass of selected orders listed below). Additionally, the dataset includes the number of individuals in each of a series of size categories, total N, and mass (in grams) of the following groups: Tettigoniidae, Acrididae, other Orthoptera, Gryllidae, Odonata, Ephemeroptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Arachnida, Hemiptera, Neuroptera, Diptera, Phasmatidae, Mantidae, and “other”.

Raw metagenomic data from sweep net samples collected in 2016 as part of the Slikok Creek Watershed Biotic Inventory

<p>We set out to inventory vascular plants, bryophytes, lichens, birds, arthropods, and earthworms on a grid of sites in the portion of Slikok Creek watershed that is on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. Occurrence data, images, and field data sheets from this project are available via an <a href="https://arctosdb.org/">Arctos</a> project page at <a href="http://arctos.database.museum/project/10002227">http://arctos.database.museum/project/10002227</a>.</p> <p>This dataset includes the raw FASTQ files from metagenomic processing and associated collection data. Of the 160 sweep net samples collected, 125 were selected for High Throughput Sequencing and shipped to RTL Genomics (<a href="http://rtlgenomics.com">http://rtlgenomics.com</a>) for extraction and sequencing steps. Sequencing was performed on an Illumina MiSeq platform and reads were processed using RTL Genomics&rsquo; standard methods with the mlCOIlintF/HCO2198 primer set of Leray et al. (2013), yielding a 313 bp region of the COI gene.</p> <p>Collection data are included in the file <code>ArctosData_43C6167EB1.csv</code> downloaded from Arctos. Extraction methods and sequencing methods provided by RTL Genomics are included in the files <code>Bowser 4869.pdf</code> and <code>Illumina MiSeq Two-Step Method 454 profile only.docx</code>. Primers used are provided in the file <code>Bowser_4869M.txt</code>. The archive <code>FASTQ.zip</code> contains all of the resulting FASTQ files.</p> <p>These sequence data have also been been published to GenBank&#39;s Sequence Read Archive in accessions&nbsp;<a href="http://trace.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Traces/sra/?run=SRR10454582">SRR10454582</a>&ndash;<a href="http://trace.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Traces/sra/?run=SRR10454706">SRR10454706</a>&nbsp;under BioProject&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/PRJNA427721">PRJNA427721</a>.</p>

CGR02 Sweep sampling of Grasshoppers on Konza Prairie LTER watersheds (Reformatted to the ecocomDP Design Pattern)

This data package is formatted as an ecocomDP (Ecological Community Data Pattern). For more information on ecocomDP see https://github.com/EDIorg/ecocomDP. This Level 1 data package was derived from the Level 0 data package found here: https://pasta.lternet.edu/package/metadata/eml/knb-lter-knz/29/18. The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: Sweep samples were taken for grasshoppers (Acrididae) at two sites for each of 14 Konza Prairie LTER watersheds. Samples are taken in late July to early August. At each site on each occasion, 10 sets of 20 sweeps (200 sweeps total) are taken. Arthropod abundance in sweep net samples of sites near Crested Butte, CO in 2017-2020

The purpose of this study was to track year-to-year variation in arthropod communities of the host plant Ligusticum porteri (Apiaceae). In each study year (2017-2020), we used sweep nets to sample the arthropods at each of twenty sites containing populations of L. porteri. Sampling took place the end of June (June 28-30th), and we standardized sampling effort across years. Two field technicians netted insects from vegetation at a consistent pace for 30 seconds each. We sorted and identified insects to Order using a dissection microscope and a project-specific taxonomic key. Non-insect arthropods were also counted but not identified to additional taxonomic levels.
