Descriptor dataset for predicting interfacial thermal resistance

We present details of the two datasets for the ITR model training and prediction, one is the "ITR dataset" and the other one is the "descriptor dataset" of various materials. The former dataset shows the ITR values of various interfaces with the measuring temperature, synthesized method, thermal measurement method, sample pre-treatment and its original references. The latter dataset shows the physical, chemical and process descriptors of 298 different materials, which are single element or binary compounds. These materials can construct over 80,000 pair-material systems (e.g. Bi/Si) for ITR prediction. Additionally, the total energy for the binding energy can also be found in the "atom_energy_vasp" file. Further, the training data for the ITR machine-learning model are furnished under the file name“training dataset for ITR prediction” and can be directly used as training data for ITR predictions.

Descriptor dataset for predicting interfacial thermal resistance is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

Higher thermal resistance of corals in the global marine biodiversity center

Predictions for the future of coral reef are largely based on thermal exposure and poorly account for geographic variation in biological sensitivity and resistance to thermal stress. Based on the ratio of thermal exposure and sensitivity, geographic variability of coral resistance was estimated during the 2016 global-bleaching event. Exposure was estimated as historical cumulative excess summer heat (CTA) and a multivariate index of SST, light, and water flow (CE). Site sensitivity was estimated for 226 sites using coordinated bleaching observations. Site resistance was evaluated by 128 possible models for the influences of geography, historical SST variation, coral cover, and number of coral genera. Most factors were statistically significant but the strongest factor was geography - Coral Triangle having higher resistance than non-Coral Triangle sites. Consequently, future predictions of thermal stress will need to account for strong geographic differences in acclimation/adaptation.

Supplementary Data: Kapitza thermal resistance across individual grain boundaries in graphene

The data here are the numerical bi-crystalline graphene samples used in Ref. [1].

There are 13 folders named "1", "2", ..., "13". Each folder contains a file named "xyz.in". They are in the format of the "xyz.in" file used in the GPUMD package [2]. From folder "1" to "13", the tilt angle increases monotonically. See Table 1 of Ref. [1] for the values of the tilt angles.

[1] Khatereh Azizi, Petri Hirvonen, Zheyong Fan, Ari Harju, Ken R Elder, Tapio Ala-Nissila, and S Mehdi Vaez Allaei,
Kapitza thermal resistance across individual grain boundaries in graphene,
Carbon 125, 384 (2017).
https://doi.org/10.1016/j.carbon.2017.09.059
https://arxiv.org/abs/1709.09529

[2] Zheyong Fan, GPUMD,
https://github.com/brucefan1983/GPUMD
http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.995667

Nannochloropsis spp. as Feed Additive for the Pacific White Shrimp: Effect on Midgut Microbiology, Thermal Shock Resistance and Immunology

This work aimed to evaluate Nannochloropsis spp. as feed additive in the diet of Pacific
white shrimp for their effect on midgut microbiology, thermal shock resistance and immunological
parameters. Initially, the digestibility of the microalgae meal was assessed, and the apparent
digestibility coefficient (ADC) was determined. The ADC was, in general, high in lipids (78.88%)
and eicosapentaenoic fatty acid (73.86%). Then, Nannochloropsis spp. were included in diets at four
levels (0, 0.5, 1 and 2% inclusion). The shrimp were reared in 500 L clear water tanks containing 20
shrimp per tank with an initial weight of 6.05 ± 0.06 g and fed four times a day. Shrimp fed with
supplemented diets containing Nannochloropsis spp. (0.5 and 2%) presented higher resistance to
thermal shock when compared to the non-supplemented group (control). Shrimp fed with 1 and 2%
of algae inclusion had a higher production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) when compared to
other treatments. No statistical difference was observed in the immunological parameters and
microbiology of the intestinal tract. Thus, the inclusion of Nannochloropsis spp. in shrimp diets at 0.5
and 2% levels increases resistance to thermal shock and ROS production in shrimp.

Increased resistance to thermal shock in pacific white shrimp fed on green algae and its effect in conjunction with probiotics

This study aimed to evaluate the in vivo effect of the macroalgae Ulva ohnoi, alone and combined with the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum, on zootechnical, immunological, and microbiological performance, thermal resistance and survival of Litopenaeus vannamei challenged with Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The shrimp were fed four diets: control, seaweed, probiotic, and a combination of seaweed + probiotic. After six weeks, a significant difference between the control and probiotic, and the control and seaweed treatments was demonstrated in shrimp challenged with Vibrio, with the highest percentage of mortality being observed in the group fed only with seaweed, followed by probiotic, seaweed + probiotic, and control. The control and seaweed treatment groups also showed a significant difference in resistance to hermal shock. The animals treated with the control diet had the highest mortality rate, followed by seaweed + probiotic, probiotic, and seaweed. The zootechnical, immunological, and microbiological parameters

Understanding and mitigating resistive losses in fired passivating contacts: role of the interfaces and optimization of the thermal budget

We study p-type passivating contacts based on SiCx formed via a rapid thermal processing step, using conditions compatible with the firing used to sinter screen-printed metallization pastes in industry. Firstly, we separate the contributions of the two interfaces to the contact resistivity (wafer/contact and contact/metal), identifying tunnelling at the wafer interface as the main contribution. We then investigate the dependence of contact resistivity and sheet resistance of the SiCx layer on the concentration of active dopants and we propose strategies to reduce both resistances by increasing the thermal budget applied during firing. Lastly, we discuss potentials and limitations of implementing the investigated stacks as rear side contacts of p-type devices with localized metallization, and we show that an oxide layer that can withstand high thermal budgets is the key factor for obtaining high passivation quality and good electrical properties at the same time. The results obtained with an oxide based on N2O plasma oxidation show that this layer is a promising candidate for such an application.
