Dataset: The effects of class balance on the training energy consumption of logistic regression models

<p>Two synthetic datasets for binary classification, generated with the Random Radial Basis Function generator from WEKA. They are the same shape and size (104.952 instances, 185 attributes), but the "balanced" dataset has 52,13% of its instances belonging to class c0, while the "unbalanced" one only has 4,04% of its instances belonging to class c0. Therefore, this set of datasets is primarily meant to study how class balance influences the behaviour of a machine learning model.</p>

Agile Accelerator Program: From Industry-Academia Collaboration to Effective Agile Training

<p>The agile accelerator program takes place in a Brazilian technology park, as a collaboration between a university and a world-renowned technology company, specialized in agile development and consulting. This partnership has 8-year long with the main goal of preparing undergraduate students to work in high-performance agile teams. This partnership created a culturally rich environment for student learning while influencing other companies to follow the same initiative within this technology park. We conducted a Case Study aiming to characterize this partnership (explaining how it works) and the resulting program, understanding the benefits to the program students. Our results point out the importance of the kind of partnership that provides an immersive learning environment to students, where students can learn empirically, with real projects and real stakeholders and how important it was for the program&#39;s former students to enter the job market. This successful enhanced students&#39; training program on agile software development through the blending of culture between institutions can be of inspiration to those interested in aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry.</p>

Development and implementation of a tool for measuring the training effectiveness of the patient-centered consultation model

<p><strong>Background:</strong> The patient-centered consultation model comprises four elements: exploring health, illness, and disease experiences, understanding the whole person, finding common ground, and enhancing the patient-doctor relationship. This method is taught at the course in general practice at Copenhagen University. The aim of the study was to develop a simple tool consisting of a questionnaire about the patient-centered elements and a test video consultation. The outcome is the change in the students&rsquo; ability to identify these elements. Used as a pre-course and post-course test it can inform the teachers which elements of the patient-centered consultation need intensifying in the teaching.<br> <strong>Methods:</strong> The students from a course in general practice volunteered to participate in all steps of the development. They took part in individual interviews to select items from an already existing questionnaire (DanSCORE). The preliminary questionnaire was tested for face and content validity, pilot-tested and tested for test-retest reliability. All video consultations were transcribed and assessed for patient-centered elements through a conversation analysis. The videos showed medical students seeing real patients.<br> <strong>Results:</strong> The preliminary version of the questionnaire (called DanOBS) <a href="#_msocom_1">[CM1]</a>&nbsp;<a href="#_msocom_2">[MJ2]</a>&nbsp;had 23 items. In the subsequent interviews, items were reduced to 17, each with three response options. After the pilot test, the questionnaire was further reduced to 13 items, all strictly relevant to the model and with two response options. The final questionnaire had acceptable test-retest reliability. The number of test consultation videos underwent a reduction from six videos to one.<br> <strong>Conclusions:</strong> The DanOBS combined with a test video consultation, used as a pre-and post-course test demonstrates for teachers which elements in the patient-centered consultation need to be intensified in the teaching.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Train and Evaluation Code, Road Classification Models and Test set of the paper "Insights into the Effects of Image Overlap and Image Size on Semantic Segmentation Models Trained for Road Surface Area Extraction from Aerial Orthophotography"

<p>This repository contains the Python scripts built for training and evaluation of the implementation, together with the test data and the resulting road segmentation models corresponding to the paper "Insights into the Effects of Image Overlap and Image Size on Semantic Segmentation Models Trained for Road Surface Area Extraction from Aerial Orthophotography". The scripts make use of the Tensorflow with Keras framework and their additional required dependencies.</p> <p>The training and validation set is based on the binary SROADEX dataset (<a href="../records/6482346">https://zenodo.org/records/6482346</a>) that was re-split into tiles that feature the image resolutions (256 x 256, 512 x 512, and 1024 x 1024 pixels) and image overlaps (0% and 12.5%) considered in this study. The data have been generated using scripts developed in Python using Open Source libraries (GDAL/OGR and MapScript) for rasterization of vector cartography that represents the axes of the different types of roads (urban, interurban and rural). This binary road data contains information from 16 full orthoimages (28.5 km * 18.5 km) with spatial resolution of 0.5 m/pixel from the insular and peninsular Spanish territory. Due to the size on disk of approximately 492 gigabytes, this training and validation data is only available upon request from the corresponding author. The test set has been generated from a novel area from Palencia (Spain) and features 18 million pixels labelled with the positive "Road" class. The test sets are provided in the repository for each resolution (with no overlap), so that additional DL models can be evaluated on the same data and compared with the results achieved in this study.</p> <p>The structure of the information shared in this repository is as follows:<br>The scripts have been grouped by tile resolution (256, 512 and 1024). First, the test set and the evaluation script can be found. For each tile resolution, there are two subfolders (corresponding to the "no overlap" and "12.5% overlap"). In each case, the Python scripts for training the models in the three repetitions are shared, and the trained models (H5 format) are shared in compressed form. Finally, for each resolution we also share the testing dataset which consists of two folders.</p> <p>The material is distributed under a CC-BY 4.0 license.</p>

Data from: Effectiveness of Online Off-the-Job Training in Attracting Participants and Video-On-Demand Streaming in Improving Work-Life Balance: A Study Focusing on Medical Technologists

<p>The Nara Association of Medical Technologists has introduced online Off-Job Training (Off-JT) starting from FY2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to evaluate the online Off-JT, which differs from the traditional face-to-face format. Firstly, we compared the online format&#39;s ability to attract participants with the face-to-face format based on the number of training sessions and attendees. Despite having fewer training sessions (40.8% less), the online format had an average attendance of 105.4% higher (39.7 vs. 19.3) than the face-to-face format. To enhance participant convenience, we offered a limited number of live and video-on-demand (VOD) sessions on YouTube, evaluating their usefulness through an online survey focusing on work-life balance (WLB). The survey results showed that 81.9% (458/559) of respondents reported an improvement in WLB. The effect on WLB improvement varied depending on the viewing method, with VOD sessions showing 84.1% (376/447) and live sessions showing 73.2% (82/112). We believe that the increased ability to attract participants in the online Off-JT is mainly due to the elimination of travel burdens through internet-connected devices. The combination of live and VOD sessions on YouTube allowed participants to adjust their viewing time, leading to better allocation of free time and improved WLB. The online Off-JT and VOD delivery have shown to enhance convenience for participants by removing geographical and time constraints, resulting in positive effects.</p>

Flight training and dietary antioxidants have mixed effects on the oxidative status of multiple tissues in a female migratory songbird

<p>Birds, like other vertebrates, rely on a robust antioxidant system to protect themselves against oxidative imbalance caused by energy-intensive activities such as flying. Such oxidative challenges may be especially acute for females during spring migration, since they must pay the oxidative costs of flight while preparing for reproduction; however, little previous work has examined how the antioxidant system of female spring migrants responds to dietary antioxidants and the oxidative challenges of regular flying. We fed two diets to female European starlings, one supplemented with a dietary antioxidant and one without, and then flew them daily in a windtunnel for two weeks during the fall and spring migration periods. We measured the activity of enzymatic antioxidants (GPx, SOD, CAT), non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity (ORAC), and markers of oxidative damage (protein carbonyls and lipid hydroperoxides) in four tissues: pectoralis, leg, liver, and heart. Dietary antioxidants affected enzymatic antioxidant activity and lipid damage in the heart, and non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity in the pectoralis and protein damage in leg muscle. In general, birds fed less antioxidants appear to incur increased oxidative damage while upregulating non-enzymatic and enzymatic antioxidant activity, though these effects were strongly tissue-specific. We also found a significant diet x training interaction for enzymatic antioxidant activity in the leg, and strong trends for diet x training interactions for enzymatic antioxidant activity in the heart and liver. Flight-training may condition the antioxidant system of females to dynamically respond to oxidative challenges, and females during spring migration may shift antioxidant allocation to reduce oxidative damage.</p>

Season, anthocyanin supplementation, and flight training have mixed effects on the antioxidant system of migratory European starlings (Sturnus vulgaris)

<p>Migratory birds engage in two periods of endurance flight annually as they travel between summer breeding and overwintering grounds, and such endurance flights likely incur oxidative costs. These costs may differ between fall and spring migration, especially for females who must prepare for breeding and egg laying in spring. The objective of this study of a migratory bird was to test proposed hypotheses about how key components of the female's antioxidant system differ in response to flight training in the fall and spring and to dietary antioxidant supplementation. We hand-raised female European starlings (<i>Sturnus vulgaris</i>) and then fed them either a diet supplemented with dietary anthocyanins or a diet without added anthocyanins. <a name="_Hlk53656115">We then flew females in a windtunnel for 15 days during fall and spring migration seasons and measured over time oxidative damage (d-ROMs) and three components of the antioxidant system</a>—non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity (OXY), uric acid, and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity. Prior to flight training, non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity and oxidative damage were lower in females during spring compared to fall, and females fed a low-antioxidant diet had consistently higher circulating uric acid. GPx activity decreased more in spring immediately after a long-duration flight. Females fed a high-antioxidant diet had a greater decrease in non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity after the 15-day flight training. <a name="_Hlk53656268">Flight-trained females had higher circulating uric acid than untrained females immediately after the longest-duration flight</a>, and decreased GPx activity after the 15-day flight training. In sum, females upregulated enzymatic and non-enzymatic endogenous antioxidants in spring, and females fed a diet with less antioxidants appear to compensate by increasing circulating uric acid. Our findings emphasize the important role of dietary antioxidants for birds during migration, <a name="_Hlk53656372">and that similar flights in fall and spring likely represent distinct oxidative challenges in the life history of female birds.</a></p>
