Long-term seasonally and annually aggregated climatic variables for the greater Phoenix, Arizona, USA, metropolitan area and the surrounding Sonoran desert, derived from single-day NASA Daymet images, 2000 to 2022
This data package consists of multiple decades of bioclimatic raster data across the Central Arizona-Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research (CAP LTER) study area within metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona, USA, temporally aggregated by year and by four meteorological seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall). We sourced each bioclimatic variable from 1-km resolution gridded estimates of daily climatic data from NASA Daymet V4, including daily mean (ppt) and total precipitation (ppt_sum), daily maximum air temperature (temp_max), daily minimum air temperature (temp_min), incident shortwave radiation flux density (srad), and daily average partial pressure of water vapor (vp). For each of these six variables, we created temporally aggregated raster images by calculating mean pixel-values of each for each season and year, as well as producing a seventh variable of seasonally and annually summed precipitation (ppt_sum). Finally, we exported images as individual GeoTIFF raster files, each with five bands corresponding values summarized annually (band 1) and seasonally (bands 2-5). All imagery retrieval and data processing were completed with Google Earth Engine (Gorelick et al. 2017) and program R. Catalog of 1600+ New Variables around V1821 Cyg in NGC 6871
<p>Utilizing TESS data, the author has screened a small sky region of a one-degree radius centered on the known $\delta$ Scuti star V1821 Cyg within the young open cluster NGC 6871. The selected samples had TESS magnitude values ranging from 6 to 16 mag, matching the TESS premium targets exhibiting good quality photometry and effective temperature between 10000 and 6000 K, roughly corresponding to main sequence stars of spectral types A to F. Among the 3600 candidate stars surveyed, 1530 were discovered to be new variables of types $\delta$ Scuti, $\gamma$ Doradus, Maia, eclipsing binary, rotational, and solar-like oscillators.</p>

<p>This is a supplementary dataset accompanying the publication <strong>Gerighausen et al. (2024) </strong>submitted to Meteorological Applications. It contains a collection of browsable figures, complementing selected regimes, seasons, and countries in the paper. The figures are provided as a zipped archive. The ZIP-File (1.2 GB) contains 4 subfolders and 4 auxiliary files as described in <strong>readme.md </strong>in the main folder. Once downloaded and unpacked, the .html navigation panels can be used in any browser to navigate through the plots. </p> <p>Data and methods used to generate the figures are explained in Gerighausen et al. (2024). In brief the analysis is based on ERA5 reanalysis 1979-2021 at 1° grid spacing and 6h temporal resolution aggregated to daily data. Greenhouse gas partial pressure (CO2, CH4, N2O) and environmental variables (physical, chemical, and biological) measured in urban ponds of Barcelona during summer and winter (2023-2024)
This dataset provides information on the partial pressure of greenhouse gases (CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O) measured in 41 artificial urban ponds—28 naturalized and 13 non-naturalized—using the headspace technique. Additionally, GPS coordinates, as well as physical, chemical, and biological variables for each pond, are included. Data were collected during the summer and winter seasons, during daytime. Furthermore, a subset of 16 ponds (8 naturalized and 8 non-naturalized) was also sampled at night in both seasons. All samples were taken from the water surface.
Summertime methane and carbon dioxide emission rates and associated variables from a national-scale survey of 146 reservoirs in the United States, 2016-2023
Reservoirs are globally important sources of greenhouse gases, but the magnitude of their emissions is highly uncertain. Here we present data for 146 reservoirs from two surveys of reservoir methane and carbon dioxide emissions, one at the regional scale in the midwestern United States and one at the national scale in the conterminous United States, plus data from one reservoir in Washington and another in Puerto Rico. At all reservoirs, ebullitive and diffusive emissions and basic physiochemistry were measured at 15-70 locations during one 22 to 64-hour period during the summers of 2016-2023, with four reservoirs revisited a second time. Concomitant water chemistry measurements were also made at an index site. The dataset is comprised of two geospatial files and seven .csv files containing greenhouse gas emissions, water chemistry, morphology, and other relevant data. These data comprise the largest multi-reservoir emissions dataset ever assembled using consistent measurement methods.

CBC02 Winter-spring survival and response of birds to variable climate using mist-net captures at Konza Prairie
This dataset includes captures of small-bodied landbirds captured via passive mist-netting efforts. The objectives are to (a) initiate a long-term survey of the non-breeding birds of the site, (b) understand the behavioral and physiological mechanisms that allow birds to cope with the unpredictable, variable, and often harsh conditions during winter months, and (c) provide a training platform for students. The collection of this dataset is fully integrated into the teaching of “Wild Bird Research” (an undergraduate hands-on research course in the Division of Biology) and less formal instruction in bird research methods for graduate students. Additionally, the banding efforts have benefited from the engagement of Konza Prairie docents and frequently hosts class visits and other visitors interested in witness bird banding operations.
CBP01 Variable distance line-transect sampling of bird population numbers in different habitats on Konza Prairie
Records of bird species based on line transect sampling, giving perpendicular distance of sighting from the transect line on 16 separate transects. Bird surveys were conducted 2-4 times per year in January, April, June, and October for a 29-year period from 1981 to 2009. Transects were designed to determine bird communities and population numbers associated with tallgrass prairie habitats with different experimental treatments (fire frequency, grazed by bison vs. ungrazed), riparian habitats on forest edge, and gallery forests dominated by oak woodland.

Spatial variability in water chemistry of four Wisconsin aquatic ecosystems - High speed limnology Environmental Science and Technology datasets
Advanced sensor technology is widely used in aquatic monitoring and research. Most applications focus on temporal variability, whereas spatial variability has been challenging to document. We assess the capability of water chemistry sensors embedded in a high-speed water intake system to document spatial variability. We developed a new sensor platform to continuously samples surface water at a range of speeds (0 to > 45 km hr-1) resulting in high-density, meso-scale spatial data. Here, we archive data associated with an Environmental Science and Technology publication. Data include a single spatial survey of the following aquatic ecosystems: Lake Mendota, Allequash Creek, Pool 8 of the Upper Mississippi River, and Trout Bog. Data have been provided in three formats (raw, hydraulic-corrected, and tau-corrected).
Wisconsin creel dataset as well as predictor variables for lakes from 1990 to 2017 to estimate statewide recreational fisheries harvest
Recreational fisheries have high economic worth, valued at $190B globally. An important, but underappreciated, secondary value of recreational catch is its role as a source of food. This contribution is poorly understood due to difficulty in estimating recreational harvest at spatial scales beyond an individual system, as traditionally estimated from angler creel surveys. Here, we address this gap using a 28-year creel survey of ~300 Wisconsin inland lakes. We develop a statistical model of recreational harvest for individual lakes and then scale-up to unsurveyed lakes (3769 lakes; 73% of statewide lake surface area) to generate a statewide estimate of recreational lake harvest of ~4200 t and an estimated annual angler consumption rate of ~3 kg, nearly double estimated United States per capita freshwater fish consumption. Recreational fishing harvest makes significant contributions to human diets, is critical for discussions on food security, and the multiple ecosystem services of freshwater systems.

MOD-LSP: MODIS-Based Parameters for Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) Model over the Continental US, Mexico, and Southern Canada
<p>The MOD-LSP project contains MODIS-based land and surface (soil and vegetation) parameters for the Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) model (Liang et al., 1994), release 5.0 and later (Hamman et al., 2018). The MOD-LSP spatial domain covers the continental United States, Mexico, and southern Canada; the associated domain files can be found in the <a href="https://zenodo.org/record/2564019">PITRI archive</a> (Bohn et al. 2018). This spatial domain and 0.625° (6 km) grid resolution are compatible with the gridded daily meteorological forcings of Livneh et al. (2015) ("L2015" hereafter) (http://ciresgroups.colorado.edu/livneh/data/daily-observational-hydrometeorology-data-set-north-american-extent), which can be disaggregated to hourly time step via the MetSim tool (Bennett et al. 2018) using the <a href="https://zenodo.org/record/2564019">aforementioned PITRI domain files</a> (Bohn et al. 2018).</p> <p>These parameters have two main purposes: (1) to improve upon previous widely-used parameters over the region (e.g., L2015) with updated, higher-resolution land cover maps and spatially explicit observations of surface properties; and (2) to expand from a single parameter set corresponding to one point in time to a series of parameter sets that account for temporal variability at seasonal to decadal scales.</p> <p>A detailed description of methods, the data sources and purposes of different VIC parameter sets within MOD-LSP, and how to use them with VIC, can be found in the MOD-LSP User Guide.pdf, included here. 2005-2099 High resolution bioclimatic variables for the surface and bottom of the Mediterranean Sea.
<p><em><span>This dataset provides annual statistical descriptors (mean, minimum, maximum, range and standard deviation) of key biogeochemical and physical variables for the Mediterranean Sea. It covers the period 2005-2099 under the RCP8.5 scenario, with a spatial resolution of 1/24 degree (~4km²). Variables include temperature, salinity, pH, water velocity, nutrients (NO3, PO4, NH4), dissolved inorganic carbon, oxygen, and net primary production. Data are available for both surface and at bathymetry level. The original projections were generated using OGSTM-BFM and MFS16 models at daily time and 1/16 degree grid resolution. We downscaled these to 1/24 degree and applied Quantile Delta Mapping bias correction using CMEMS reanalysis products for 2005-2020. The dataset is provided in a user-friendly format, making it accessible for various ecological and environmental modelling applications.</span></em></p>
