PsPM-RRM1-2: SCR, ECG, respiration and eye tracker measurements in response to electric stimulation or visual targets

This dataset includes skin conductance response (SCR), electrocardiogram (ECG), respiration and eye tracker (including pupillometry) measurements for each of 29 healthy unmedicated participants (7 males and 22 females aged 23.5 +/- 3.6 years) in response to 10 discomforting electric stimulations to the forearm (RRM1) or 10 visual targets in a visual detection task (RRM2). The sample partly overlaps with data set PsPM-FR. Some participants did not take part in RRM1 or RRM2 such that there are 25 recordings for RRM1 and 26 recordings for RRM2. Electric shock stimuli are 0.2 ms wide square current pulse repeated at 500 Hz for 500 ms and individually adjusted amplitude just below the pain threshold. Visual stimuli are red crosses (+) embedded in a white digit stream; each stimulus is presented during 200 ms and separated by a 800 ms blank interval. ITI is selected randomly on each trial from 40 s, 45 s or 50 s. A baseline period with distractors but no targets concludes experiment RRM2. (This is in contrast to the methods description in Bach et al. (2016), according to which the baseline period was randomly either in the beginning or at the end of the experiment. This discrepancy was caused by an error in the code that controlled the experiment presentation.)

In vivo intracellular recording in the mouse V1 during passive visual stimulations and audiovisual discrimination task

Whole cell recordings (Vm channel) performed in the layer 2/3 primary visual cortex (V1) of awake mice. Recordings are performed in current clamp (Im channel). A local ECoG was placed on the dura in the vincinity of the recorded neuron. Vistim channels indicate the orientation of the drifting grating (Vistim 1 frequency), contrast (Vistim 1 amplitude), temporal frequency (Vistim 2 frequency), and spatial frquency (Vistim 2 amplitude). The diode signal indicates the exact timing of the stimulus presentation. The two mouse channels (Mouse1 adn Mouse2) indicate the movement of the spherical treadmill on which the animal is standing. In the behavior database, the mice are performing a behavioral task (additional information can be found in those files: licking channel, auditory channel (one of two tones) reward (laser channel)). The script and the data are using an Igor Pro format. For converting the two mouse signals into locomotion, please refer to the script AnalysisMouseWaveProc.ipf or the functions imbeded in LoadExperiments 2013.ipf . Those data have been used for the article Einstein et al., 2017 (https://doi.org/10.1523/JNEUROSCI.3868-16.2017). The excel sheet provides additional information about the recording. Differential influence of the dorsal premotor and primary somatosensory cortex on corticospinal excitability during kinesthetic and visual motor imagery: a low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation study

Consistent evidence suggests that motor imagery involves activation of several sensorimotor areas also involved during action execution, including the dorsal premotor (dPMC) and primary somatosensory cortex (S1). However, it is still unclear whether their involvement is specific for either kinesthetic or visual imagery or whether they contribute to motor activation for both modalities. Although sensorial experience during motor imagery is often multimodal, identifying the modality exerting greater facilitation of the motor system may allow to optimize the functional outcomes of rehabilitation interventions. In a sample of healthy adults, we combined 1-HZ repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to suppress neural activity of the dPMC, S1, and primary motor cortex (M1) with single-pulse TMS over M1 for measuring cortico-spinal excitability (CSE) during kinesthetic and visual motor imagery of finger movements as compared to static imagery conditions. We found that rTMS over both dPMC and S1, but not over M1, modulated the muscle-specific facilitation of CSE during kinesthetic, but not during visual motor imagery. Furthermore, dPMC-rTMS suppressed the facilitation of CSE, whereas S1-rTMS boosted it. The results highlight the differential pattern of cortico-cortical connectivity within the sensorimotor system during the mental simulation of the kinesthetic and visual consequences of actions.
